2 Samuel 10

1 Danach starb der Ammoniterkönig, und sein Sohn Chanun ward an seiner Statt König.

And it came to pass after this that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Annon his son reigned in his stead.

2 Da sprach David: "Ich will dem Chanun, des Nachas Sohn, Liebes tun, wie sein Vater mir Liebes hat getan." So schickte David hin, ihn durch seine Diener wegen seines Vaters zu trösten. So kamen Davids Diener ins Ammoniterland.

And David said, I will shew mercy to Annon the son of Naas, as his father dealt mercifully with me. And David sent to comfort him concerning his father by the hand of his servants; and the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon.

3 Da sprachen die Ammoniterfürsten zu ihrem Herrn Chanun: "Ehrt David nach deiner Ansicht deinen Vater, daß er dir Tröster schickt? Sendet nicht David seine Diener zu dir, die Stadt auszuspähen, auszuforschen und zu erkunden?

And the princes of the children of Ammon said to Annon their lord, [Is it] to honour thy father before thee that David has sent comforters to thee? Has not David rather sent his servants to thee that they should search the city, and spy it out and examine it?

4 Da ergriff Chanun Davids Diener, schor ihnen den Bart halb ab und schnitt ihnen die Kleider halb bis ans Gesäß weg. So schickte er sie fort.

And Annon took the servants of David, and shaved their beards, and cut off their garments in the midst as far as their haunches, and sent them away.

5 Als man dies David meldete, sandte er ihnen entgegen. Denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft. Der König ließ ihnen sagen: "Bleibt in Jericho, bis euch der Bart gewachsen ist! Dann kommt heim!"

And they brought David word concerning the men; and he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly dishonoured: and the king said, Remain in Jericho till your beards have grown, and [then] ye shall return.

6 Die Ammoniter aber merkten, daß sie sich bei David verhaßt gemacht hatten. Da schickten die Ammoniter hin und dingten bei Aram in Bet Rechob und bei Aram in Soba 20.000 Fußtruppen und vom König von Maaka 1.000 Mann und 12.000 Mann von Tob.

And the children of Ammon saw that the people of David were ashamed; and the children of Ammon sent, and hired the Syrians of Baethraam, and the Syrians of Suba, and Roob, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Amalec with a thousand men, and Istob with twelve thousand men.

7 Als dies David hörte, sandte er Joab und das ganze Heer, die Krieger, aus.

And David heard, and sent Joab and all his host, [even] the mighty men.

8 Da rückten die Ammoniter aus und stellten sich zum Kampfe vor das Stadttor. Die Aramäer von Soba und Rechob aber und die Mannschaften von Tob und Maaka standen für sich im Gelände.

And the children of Ammon went forth, and set the battle in array by the door of the gate: [those] of Syria, Suba, and Roob, and Istob, and Amalec, being by themselves in the field.

9 Als Joab sah, daß ihm ein Angriff von vorn und von hinten drohe, wählte er Leute aus allen Erlesenen Israels und stellte sich den Aramäern entgegen.

And Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him from that which was opposed in front and from behind, and he chose out [some] of all the young men of Israel, and they set themselves in array against Syria.

10 Den Rest des Volkes aber hatte er seinem Bruder Abisai unterstellt. Auch er stellte sich den Ammonitern entgegen.

And the rest of the people he gave into the hand of Abessa his brother, and they set the battle in array opposite to the children of Ammon.

11 Er sprach: "Werden aber die Ammoniter mir zu stark, dann komm du mir zu Hilfe! Werden aber die Aramäer dir zu stark, dann komme ich dir zu helfen.

And he said, If Syria be too strong for me, then shall ye help me: and if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then will we be ready to help thee.

12 Sei tapfer! Seien wir mutig für unser Volk und Diener unseres Gottes. Der Herr aber tue, was ihm gefällt!"

Be thou courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the sake of the cities of our God, and the Lord shall do that which is good in his eyes.

13 So rückten Joab und das Volk bei ihm zum Kampfe gegen die Aramäer vor. Da flohen sie vor ihm.

And Joab and his people with him advanced to battle against Syria, and they fled from before him.

14 Als die Ammoniter sahen, daß die Aramäer flohen, flohen auch sie vor Abisai und zogen sich zurück. Da ließ Joab von den Ammonitern ab und kam nach Jerusalem.

And the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, and they fled from before Abessa, and entered into the city: and Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

15 Als die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, sammelten sie sich.

And the Syrians saw that they were worsted before Israel, and they gathered themselves together.

16 Und Hadadezer sandte hin und ließ die Aramäer jenseits des Stromes ausrücken. Und sie kamen nach Chelam. Hadadezers Feldherr Sobak aber war an ihrer Spitze.

And Adraazar sent and gathered the Syrians from the other side of the river Chalamak, and they came to Aelam; and Sobac the captain of the host of Adraazar [was] at their head.

17 Dies ward David gemeldet. Da bot er ganz Israel auf, überschritt den Jordan und kam nach Chelam. Da stellten sich die Aramäer David entgegen und kämpften mit ihm.

And it was reported to David, and he gathered all Israel, and went over Jordan, and came to Aelam: and the Syrians set the battle in array against David, and fought with him.

18 Aber die Aramäer mußten vor Israel fliehen. Und David schlug von den Aramäern 700 Wagenkämpfer und 40.000 Mann Fußvolk. Auch ihren Feldherrn Sobak schlug er, daß er dort starb.

And Syria fled from before Israel, and David destroyed of Syria seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and he smote Sobac the captain of his host, and he died there.

19 Als alle Könige, Hadadezers Untergebene, sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, schlossen sie mit Israel Frieden und waren ihm untertan. Die Aramäer aber hüteten sich, den Ammonitern weiter zu helfen.

And all the kings the servants of Adraazar saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, and they went over to Israel, and served them: and Syria was afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
