2 Petrus 3

1 Das ist nun schon der zweite Brief, Geliebte, den ich an euch schreibe. Ich will in ihnen eure lautere Gesinnung wachhalten durch Ermahnungen,

This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you

2 auf daß ihr der Worte eingedenk seid, die einst die heiligen Propheten schon vorhergesagt, und des Gebotes unseres Herrn und Heilands, das die Apostel euch verkündigt haben.

that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,

3 Vor allen Dingen müßt ihr wissen, daß am Ende der Tage Spötter voll Hohn auftreten, Menschen, die ihren eigenen Lüsten folgen

knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts

4 und sagen: "Wo bleibt denn seine Ankunft, die er verheißen hat? Schon seit die Väter entschlafen sind, bleibt alles so, wie es vom Anfang der Welt an war."

and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

5 Sie übersehen ja absichtlich, daß zwar von Urzeit an der Himmel war und daß die Erde aus dem Wasser und durch das Wasser kraft des Gotteswortes zustande kam

For they willfully forget that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water by the word of God,

6 und daß, durch beide vom Wasser überflutet, die alte Welt zugrunde ging.

by which means the world that existed then, being overflowed with water, perished.

7 Der jetzige Himmel und die jetzige Erde sind durch das gleiche Wort nun aber aufgespart und aufbewahrt fürs Feuer an dem Tag, an dem die frevlerischen Menschen gerichtet und verdammt werden.

But the heavens that exist now and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8 Dies eine aber, Geliebte, dürft ihr ja nicht übersehen: Ein Tag ist bei dem Herrn wie tausend Jahre, und tausend Jahre sind wie ein Tag.

But do not forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 Der Herr säumt nicht mit der Erfüllung der Verheißung, wie das manche für ein Säumen halten. Er übt an euch nur Langmut; er will ja nicht, daß auch nur einige verlorengehen, vielmehr, daß alle sich zur Buße wenden.

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 Jedoch, es kommt der Tag des Herrn wie ein Dieb. Die Himmel werden in gewaltigem Sausen vergehen, die Elemente werden sich in Gluthitze auflösen, die Erde aber und was sich darauf befindet, wird verbrennen.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

11 Da sich nun alles so auflöst, wie sehr müßt dann ihr einen heiligen und frommen Wandel führen

Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,

12 und so den Tag der Ankunft unseres Gottes erwarten und beschleunigen. Der Himmel löst sich dann in Feuer auf; die Elemente schmelzen in der Gluthitze dahin.

looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

13 Wir aber erwarten, wie er es verheißen hat, einen neuen Himmel und eine neue Erde, wo die Gerechtigkeit wohnt.

But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

14 Deshalb, Geliebte, während ihr solches erwartet, zeigt allen Eifer, daß ihr im Frieden, unbefleckt und tadellos vor ihm befunden werdet.

Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.

15 Benützt die Langmut unseres Herrn zu eurem Heil. So hat auch unser lieber Bruder Paulus in der ihm verliehenen Weisheit euch geschrieben.

Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,

16 Er tut es in allen seinen Briefen, wo er darauf zu sprechen kommt. Gar manches ist darin nun freilich schwierig zu verstehen, was Ungebildete und solche, die noch nicht gefestigt sind - wie übrigens auch die anderen Schriften - zu ihrem eigenen Verderben verdrehen.

as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

17 Ihr aber, Geliebte, die ihr jetzt dies wißt, nehmt euch in acht, daß ihr, vom Irrtum der Frevler fortgerissen, nicht euren festen Halt verlieret.

You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.

18 Wachset in der Gnade und Erkenntnis unseres Herrn und Heilandes Jesus Christus. Ihm sei die Herrlichkeit jetzt und am Tage der Ewigkeit. Amen. (aiōn g165)

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and in the day of that age (aiōn g165). Amen.
