1 Zu jener Zeit ward Jeroboams Sohn Abia krank.

At that time, fell sick, Abijah son of Jeroboam.

2 Da sprach Jeroboam zu seiner Gemahlin: "Mach dich auf! Verkleide dich aber, daß man nicht merke, daß du Jeroboams Gemahlin bist, und geh nach Silo! Dort ist der Prophet Achia, er, der geweissagt hat, daß ich König über dieses Volk würde.

Then said Jeroboam to his wife—Arise, I pray thee, and feign thyself another, that it be not known, that, thou, art the wife of Jeroboam, —and thou shalt go thy way to Shiloh, lo! there, is Ahijah the prophet, who promised I should be king over this people;

3 Nimm zehn Brote, Schafskäse und einen Krug Honig mit dir und geh zu ihm! Er wird dir kundtun, wie es dem Knaben gehen wird."

and thou shall take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a bottle of honey, and shalt go unto him, —he, will tell thee what shall befall the young man.

4 Jeroboams Gemahlin tat so. Sie brach auf, ging nach Silo und kam in Achias Haus. Achia aber konnte nicht mehr sehen; denn seine Augen waren infolge seines Alters starr geworden.

And the wife of Jeroboam, did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and entered the house of Ahijah, —now, Ahijah, could not see, for his eyes were fixed, by reason of his old age.

5 Aber der Herr hatte zu Achia gesprochen: "Soeben kommt das Weib Jeroboams, dich wegen ihres Sohnes zu fragen, weil er krank ist. Sprich so und so zu ihr! Wenn sie kommt, ist sie verkleidet."

But, Yahweh, had said unto Ahijah—Lo! the wife of Jeroboam, coming to enquire something of thee, concerning her son, for he is sick, thus and so, shalt thou speak unto her, —though, when she cometh in, she feign to be a stranger-woman.

6 Als sie zur Türe hereinging, hörte Achia das Geräusch ihrer Tritte. Er sprach: "Komm nur herein, Jeroboams Weib! Wozu verstellst du dich? Ich bin mit Hartem an dich beauftragt.

So it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she entered the doorway, that he said—Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam, —wherefore, is it that thou art feigning to be a stranger-woman, seeing that, I, am sent unto thee, with something hard to bear?

7 Auf! Sage dem Jeroboam: 'So spricht der Herr, Israels Gott: Ich habe dich aus dem Volke erhoben und dich zum Fürsten meines Volkes Israel gemacht!

Go, say to Jeroboam—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the midst of the people, —and gave thee to be leader over my people Israel;

8 Entrissen habe ich dem Davidshaus die Herrschaft und diese dir gegeben. Du aber bist nicht wie mein Diener David, der das, was ich geboten, auch befolgt und der aus ganzem Herzen mir nachgewandelt ist, zu tun, was recht in meinen Augen.

and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee, —and yet thou hast not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me, with all his heart, to do only that which was right in mine eyes;

9 Du tatest Böses, mehr als alle deine Vorgänger; du gingst hin und machtest andere Götter dir, Gußbilder, mir zur Kränkung. Mich aber warfst du hinter deinen Rücken.

but hast made wicked thy doings beyond any who were before thee, —and hast gone and made thee ether gods, even molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast, me, behind thy back,

10 Drum bringe ich Unheil über Jeroboams Haus und tilge von Jeroboam die Wandpisser, Unmündige und Mündige in Israel. Ich fege so Jeroboams Haus, wie man den Kot wegfegt.

therefore, behold me! bringing misfortune against the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off the meanest pertaining to Jeroboam, whether shut up or left at large, in Israel, —and will consume after the house of Jeroboam, as one consumeth dung, till it be all gone:

11 Wer von Jeroboam stirbt in der Stadt, den fressen Hunde, und wer im Freien stirbt, den fressen des Himmels Vögel.' So hat der Herr gesprochen.

Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat, —For, Yahweh, hath spoken.

12 Du aber steh auf und geh heim! Wenn deine Füße dann die Stadt betreten, stirbt der Knabe.

Thou, therefore, arise, go to thine own house, —as thy feet are entering the city, the young man shall die.

13 Ganz Israel wird ihn betrauern und ihn begraben. Denn er allein kommt von Jeroboam in ein Grab, weil nur an ihm sich etwas findet, was dem Herrn, Israels Gott, an Jeroboams Haus gefällt.

Then shall all Israel lament for him, and bury him, for, this one, pertaining to Jeroboam, shall reach a burying-place, —because there hath been found in him something good toward Yahweh, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

14 Aber dann erweckt der Herr sich über Israel einen König, der Jeroboams Haus ausrottet, das heutige und das spätere.

Therefore will Yahweh raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam, this day, but why, even now?

15 Der Herr schlägt Israel, daß es wie ein Rohr im Wasser schwankt, und reißt Israel aus diesem schönen Lande, das er ihren Vätern einst gegeben, und dann zerstreut er sie jenseits des Stromes, weil sie ihre heiligen Bäume fertigen und so des Herrn Eifersucht wecken.

Therefore will Yahweh smite Israel, as a reed shaketh in water, and will root out Israel, from off this goodly soil, which he gave unto their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River (Euphrates), —because they have made their Sacred Stems, provoking Yahweh to anger:

16 Preis gibt er Israel um der Sünden Jeroboams willen, die er getan, zu denen er Israel verführt hat."

That he may deliver up Israel, —on account of the sin of Jeroboam, which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit.

17 Jeroboams Weib aber stand auf und kam nach Tirsa. Als sie die Hausschwelle betrat, war der Knabe schon tot.

Then arose the wife of Jeroboam, and went her way and entered Tirzah, —as, she, was coming into the entrance hall, the young man died.

18 Man begrub ihn, und ganz Israel betrauerte ihn nach des Herrn Wort, das er durch seinen Diener, den Propheten Abia, gesprochen hatte.

And, when they buried him, all Israel lamented him, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 Der Rest der Geschichte Jeroboams, wie er Krieg geführt und regiert hat, ist ja aufgezeichnet im Buch der Geschichte der Könige Israels.

Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold them! written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

20 Die Zeit, die Jeroboam regierte, betrug zweiundzwanzig Jahre. Er legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sein Sohn Nadab ward König an seiner Statt.

And, the days which Jeroboam reigned, were twenty-two years, —and he slept with his fathers, and, Nadab his son, reigned, in his stead.

21 Salomos Sohn Rechabeam aber regierte in Juda. Rechabeam war einundvierzig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte siebzehn Jahre in Jerusalem, der Stadt, die der Herr aus allen Stämmen Israels erwählt, seinen Namen dort einzusetzen. Seine Mutter war die Ammoniterin Naama.

And, Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah, —forty-one years old, was Rehoboam when he began to reign, and seventeen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen to put his Name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and, his mother’s name, was Naamah, the Ammonitess.

22 Juda aber tat, was dem Herrn mißfiel, und sie erregten seine Eifersucht mehr als durch alles, was ihre Väter getan, durch ihre Sünden, die sie taten.

And Judah did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and provoked him to jealousy, above all that their fathers had done, with their sins which they committed.

23 Sie bauten sich gleichfalls Höhen, Steinmale und heilige Bäume auf jedem hohen Hügel und unter jedem grünen Baum.

And, they also, built for themselves high places and pillars, and Sacred Stems, —upon every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 Selbst Tempeldirnen waren im Lande. So taten sie alle Greuel der Heiden, die der Herr vor den Israeliten vertrieben hatte.

Moreover also, there were, male devotees, in the land, —they did according to all the abominable practices of the nations, which Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

25 Im fünften Jahre des Königs Rechabeam zog Ägyptens König Sisak gegen Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem;

26 Er nahm die Schätze aus dem Hause des Herrn und die Schätze des königlichen Hauses. Alles nahm er mit. Auch die goldenen Schilde, die Salomo gemacht, nahm er mit.

and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole, took he away, —and took away all the bucklers of gold, which, Solomon, had made.

27 An ihrer Statt machte der König Rechabeam eherne Schilde und gab sie in die Obhut der Obersten der Läufer, die an der Pforte des königlichen Hauses Wache hielten.

So King Rehoboam made, in their stead, bucklers of bronze, —and committed them unto the hand of the captains of the runners, who kept guard at the entrance of the house of the king.

28 Sooft der König in das Haus des Herrn ging, trugen sie die Läufer und brachten sie hernach in das Gemach der Läufer zurück.

And so it was, whensoever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners bare them, and then brought them back into the chamber of the runners.

29 Ist der Rest der Geschichte Rechabeams und alles dessen, was er getan, nicht im Buche der Geschichte der Könige Judas aufgezeichnet?

Now, the rest of the story of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

30 Zwischen Rechabeam und Jeroboam aber war allezeit Krieg.

And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, continually.

31 Rechabeam legte sich nun zu seinen Vätern und ward bei seinen Vätern in der Davidsstadt begraben. Seine Mutter hieß Naama und war eine Ammoniterin. Und sein Sohn Abia ward an seiner Statt König.

So then Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and, the name of his mother, was Naamah the Ammonitess, —and, Abijah his son, reigned, in his stead.
