Nehemia 9
1 Und am 24. Tage dieses Monats versammelten sich die Kinder Israel unter Fasten, und in Sacktuch gekleidet, und mit Erde auf ihren Häuptern. [Eig. und Erde war auf ihnen]
Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel assembled with fasting, and in sackcloths, and with ashes on their head.
2 Und der Same Israels sonderte sich ab von allen Kindern der Fremde; und sie traten hin und bekannten ihre Sünden und die Ungerechtigkeiten ihrer Väter.
And the children of Israel separated themselves from every stranger, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
3 Und sie standen auf an ihrer Stelle und lasen in dem Buche des Gesetzes Jehovas, ihres Gottes, ein Viertel des Tages. Und ein anderes Viertel des Tages bekannten sie ihre Sünden und warfen sich nieder vor Jehova, ihrem Gott.
And they stood in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their god: and they confessed [their sins] to the Lord, and worshipped the Lord their God.
4 Und Jeschua und Bani, Kadmiel, Schebanja, Bunni, Scherebja, Bani, Kenani traten auf die Erhöhung der Leviten, und sie schrieen mit lauter Stimme zu Jehova, ihrem Gott.
[And] there stood upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jesus, and the sons of Cadmiel, Sechenia the son of Sarabia, sons of Choneni; and they cried with a loud voice to the Lord their God.
5 Und die Leviten Jeschua und Kadmiel, Bani, Haschabneja, Scherebja, Hodija, Schebanja, Pethachja sprachen: Stehet auf, preiset Jehova, euren Gott, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Und man preise deinen herrlichen Namen, der erhaben ist über allen Preis und Ruhm!
And the Levites, Jesus and Cadmiel, said, Rise up, bless the Lord our God forever and ever: and let them bless your glorious name, and exalt it with all blessing and praise.
6 Du bist, der da ist, [S. die Anm. zu 5. Mose 32,39] Jehova, du allein; [O. Du bist Jehova, du allein] du hast die Himmel gemacht, der Himmel Himmel und all ihr Heer, die Erde und alles, was darauf ist, die Meere und alles, was in ihnen ist. Und du machst dies alles lebendig, [O. erhältst dies alles am Leben] und das Heer des Himmels betet dich an.
And Esdras said, You are the only true Lord; you made the heaven, and the heaven of heavens, and all their array, the earth, and all things that are in it, the seas, and all things in them; and you quicken all things, and the hosts of heaven worship you.
7 Du bist es, Jehova, Gott, der du Abram erwählt und ihn aus Ur in Chaldäa herausgeführt, und ihm den Namen Abraham gegeben hast.
You are the Lord God, you did choose Abram, and brought him out of the land of the Chaldeans, and gave him the name of Abraam:
8 Und du hast sein Herz treu vor dir erfunden und hast mit ihm den Bund gemacht, das Land der Kanaaniter, der Hethiter, der Amoriter und der Perisiter und der Jebusiter und der Girgasiter zu geben-seinem Samen es zu geben; und du hast deine Worte erfüllt, denn du bist gerecht.
and you found his heart faithful before you, and did make a covenant with him to give to him and to his seed the land of the Chananites, and the Chettites, and Amorites, and Pherezites, and Jebusites, and Gergesites; and you have confirmed your words, for you [are] righteous.
9 Und du hast das Elend unserer Väter in Ägypten angesehen, und hast ihr Geschrei am Schilfmeere gehört.
And you saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and you heard their cry at the Red Sea.
10 Und du hast Zeichen und Wunder getan an dem Pharao und an allen seinen Knechten und an allem Volke seines Landes; denn du wußtest, daß sie in Übermut gegen sie gehandelt hatten; und du hast dir einen Namen gemacht, wie es an diesem Tage ist.
And you showed signs and wonders in Egypt, on Pharao and all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for you know that they behaved insolently against them: and you made yourself a name, as at this day.
11 Und das Meer hast du vor ihnen gespalten, und sie zogen mitten durch das Meer auf dem Trockenen; aber ihre Verfolger hast du in die Tiefen gestürzt, wie einen Stein in mächtige Wasser.
And you did cleave the sea before them, and they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land; and you did cast into the deep them that were about to pursue them, as a stone in the mighty water.
12 Und in einer Wolkensäule hast du sie geleitet des Tages, und in einer Feuersäule des Nachts, um ihnen den Weg zu erleuchten, auf welchem sie ziehen sollten.
And you guided them by day by a pillar of cloud, and by night by a pillar of fire, to enlighten for them the way wherein they should walk.
13 Und auf den Berg Sinai bist du herabgestiegen, und hast vom Himmel her mit ihnen geredet; und du hast ihnen gerade Rechte und Gesetze der Wahrheit, gute Satzungen und Gebote gegeben.
Also you came down upon mount Sina, and you spoke to them out of heaven, and gave them right judgments, and laws of truth, ordinances, and good commandments.
14 Und deinen heiligen Sabbath hast du ihnen kundgetan, und hast ihnen Gebote und Satzungen und ein Gesetz geboten durch Mose, deinen Knecht.
And you did make known to them your holy sabbath; you did enjoin upon them commandments, and ordinances, and a law, by the hand of your servant Moses.
15 Und Brot vom Himmel hast du ihnen gegeben für ihren Hunger, und Wasser aus dem Felsen ihnen hervorgebracht für ihren Durst; und du hast ihnen gesagt, daß sie hineinziehen sollten, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, welches du ihnen zu geben geschworen [W. deine Hand aufgehoben] hattest.
And you gave them bread from heaven for their food, and you brought them forth water from a rock for their thirst; and you bade them go in to inherit the land over which you stretched out your hand to give [it] them.
16 Aber sie, nämlich unsere Väter, waren übermütig, und sie verhärteten ihren Nacken und hörten nicht auf deine Gebote.
But they and our fathers behaved proudly, and hardened their neck, and did not listen to your commandments,
17 Und sie weigerten sich zu gehorchen, und gedachten nicht deiner Wunder, welche du an ihnen getan hattest; sie verhärteten ihren Nacken und setzten sich in ihrer Widerspenstigkeit ein Haupt, um zu ihrer Knechtschaft zurückzukehren. [Die alexandr. Übersetzung lautet: setzten sich ein Haupt, um zu ihrer Knechtschaft nach Ägypten zurückzukehren. [Vergl. 4. Mose 14,4]] Du aber bist ein Gott [Eloah] der Vergebung, gnädig und barmherzig, langsam zum Zorn und groß an Güte, und du verließest sie nicht.
and refused to listen, and remembered not your wonders which you wrought with them; and they hardened their neck, and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt: but you, O God, [are] merciful and compassionate, longsuffering, and abundant in mercy, and you did not forsake them.
18 Sogar als sie sich ein gegossenes Kalb machten und sprachen: Das ist dein Gott, der dich aus Ägypten heraufgeführt hat! und große Schmähungen verübten,
And still farther they even made to themselves a molten calf, and said, These [are] the gods that brought us up out of Egypt: and they wrought great provocations.
19 verließest du in deinen großen Erbarmungen sie doch nicht in der Wüste. Die Wolkensäule wich nicht von ihnen des Tages, um sie auf dem Wege zu leiten, noch die Feuersäule des Nachts, um ihnen den Weg zu erleuchten, [Eig. um ihnen zu leuchten und den Weg] auf welchem sie ziehen sollten.
Yet you in your great compassions did not forsake them in the wilderness: you did not turn away from them the pillar of the cloud by day, to guide them in the way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to enlighten for them the way wherein they should walk.
20 Und du gabst ihnen deinen guten Geist, um sie zu unterweisen; und dein Manna versagtest du nicht ihrem Munde, und du gabst ihnen Wasser für ihren Durst.
And you gave your good Spirit to instruct them, and you did not withhold your manna from their mouth, and gave them water in their thirst.
21 Und vierzig Jahre lang versorgtest du sie in der Wüste, sie hatten keinen Mangel; ihre Kleider zerfielen nicht, und ihre Füße schwollen nicht.
And you did sustain them forty years in the wilderness; you did not allow anything to fail them: their garments did not wax old, and their feet were not bruised.
22 Und du gabst ihnen Königreiche und Völker und verteiltest ihnen dieselben nach Gegenden; [Eig. gegendweise] und sie nahmen das Land Sihons in Besitz, sowohl das Land des Königs von Hesbon, als auch das Land Ogs, des Königs von Basan.
Moreover, you gave them kingdoms, and did divide nations to them: and they inherited the land of Seon king of Esebon, and the land of Og king of Basan.
23 Und ihre Söhne mehrtest du wie die Sterne des Himmels; und du brachtest sie in das Land, von welchem du ihren Vätern gesagt hattest, daß sie hineingehen sollten, um es in Besitz zu nehmen;
And you did multiply their children as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land of which you spoke to their fathers;
24 und die Söhne kamen hinein und nahmen das Land in Besitz. Und du beugtest vor ihnen die Bewohner des Landes, die Kanaaniter, und gabst sie in ihre Hand, sowohl ihre Könige als auch die Völker des Landes, um mit ihnen zu tun nach ihrem Wohlgefallen.
And they inherited it: and you did destroy from before them the dwellers in the land of the Chananites, and you gave into their hands them and their kings, and the nations of the land, to do to them as it pleased them.
25 Und sie nahmen feste Städte ein und ein fettes Land, und nahmen Häuser in Besitz, die mit allerlei Gut gefüllt waren, ausgehauene Brunnen, Weinberge und Olivengärten und Obstbäume in Menge. Und sie aßen und wurden satt und fett und ließen sichs wohl sein durch deine große Güte. [O. in der Fülle deiner Güter, wie v 35]
And they took lofty cities, and inherited houses full of all good things, wells dug, vineyards, and olive yards, and every fruit tree in abundance: so they ate, and were filled, and grew fat, and rioted in your great goodness.
26 Aber sie wurden widerspenstig und empörten sich gegen dich, und warfen dein Gesetz hinter ihren Rücken; und sie ermordeten deine Propheten, welche wider sie zeugten, [O. sie warnten, ermahnten] um sie zu dir zurückzuführen; und sie verübten große Schmähungen.
But they turned, and revolted from you, and cast your law behind their backs; and they killed your prophets, who testified against them to turn them back to you, and they wrought great provocations.
27 Da gabst du sie in die Hand ihrer Bedränger, und diese bedrängten sie; und zur Zeit ihrer Bedrängnis schrieen sie zu dir, und du hörtest vom Himmel her und gabst ihnen Retter nach deinen großen Erbarmungen, und diese retteten sie aus der Hand ihrer Bedränger.
Then you gave them into the hand of them that afflicted them, and they did afflict them: and they cried to you in the time of their affliction, and you did hear them from your heaven, and in your great compassions gave them deliverers, and did save them from the hand of them that afflicted them.
28 Aber sobald sie Ruhe hatten, taten sie wiederum Böses vor dir. Da überließest du sie der Hand ihrer Feinde, daß diese über sie herrschten; und sie schrieen wiederum zu dir, und du hörtest vom Himmel her und errettetest sie nach deinen Erbarmungen viele Male.
But when they rested, they did evil again before you: so you left them in the hands of their enemies, and they ruled over them: and they cried again to you, and you heard [them] from heaven, and did deliver them in your great compassions.
29 Und du zeugtest wider sie, [O. warntest, ermahntest sie; so auch v 30 usw.] um sie zu deinem Gesetz zurückzuführen, sie aber waren übermütig und gehorchten deinen Geboten nicht, sondern sündigten wider deine Rechte, durch welche der Mensch, wenn er sie tut, leben wird; und sie zogen die Schulter widerspenstig zurück und verhärteten ihren Nacken und gehorchten nicht.
And you did testify against them, to bring them back to your law: but they listened not, but sinned against your commandments and your judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them; and they turned their back, and hardened their neck, and heard not.
30 Und du verzogest mit ihnen viele Jahre und zeugtest wider sie durch deinen Geist, durch deine Propheten, aber sie gaben kein Gehör. Da gabst du sie in die Hand der Völker der Länder.
Yet you did bear long with them many years, and did testify to them by your Spirit by the hand of your prophets: but they listened not; so you gave them into the hand of the nations of the land.
31 Aber in deinen großen Erbarmungen hast du ihnen nicht den Garaus gemacht und sie nicht verlassen; denn du bist ein gnädiger und barmherziger Gott. [El]
But you in your many mercies did not appoint them to destruction, and did not forsake them; for you are strong, and merciful, and pitiful.
32 Und nun, unser Gott, du großer, starker und furchtbarer Gott, [El] der den Bund und die Güte bewahrt, laß nicht gering vor dir sein alle die Mühsal, die uns betroffen hat, unsere Könige, unsere Obersten und unsere Priester und unsere Propheten und unsere Väter und dein ganzes Volk, seit den Tagen der Könige von Assyrien bis auf diesen Tag!
And now, O our God, the powerful, the great, the mighty, and the terrible, keeping your covenant and your mercy, let not all the trouble seem little in your sight which has come upon us, and our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and upon all your people, from the days of the kings of Assur even to this day.
33 Doch du bist gerecht in allem, was über uns gekommen ist; denn du hast nach der Wahrheit gehandelt, [W. Wahrheit geübt] wir aber, wir haben gesetzlos gehandelt.
But you [are] righteous in all the things that come upon us; for you have wrought faithfully, but we have greatly sinned.
34 Und unsere Könige, unsere Obersten, unsere Priester und unsere Väter haben dein Gesetz nicht gehalten, und haben nicht gemerkt auf deine Gebote und auf deine Zeugnisse, womit du wider sie gezeugt hast.
And our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our fathers, have not performed your law, and have not given heed to your commandments, and [have not kept] your testimonies which you did testify to them.
35 Und sie haben dir nicht gedient in ihrem Königreiche und in der Fülle deiner Güter, welche du ihnen gegeben, und in dem weiten und fetten Lande, das du vor sie gelegt hattest, und sind nicht umgekehrt von ihren bösen Handlungen.
And they did not serve you in your kingdom, and in your great goodness which you gave to them, and in the large and fat land which you did furnish before them, and they turned not from their evil devices.
36 Siehe, wir sind heute Knechte; und das Land, welches du unseren Vätern gegeben hast, um seine Früchte und seine Güter zu genießen, -siehe, wir sind Knechte in demselben!
Behold, we are servants this day, and [as for] the land which you gave to our fathers to eat the fruit of it and the good things of it, behold, we are servants upon it:
37 Und seinen Ertrag mehrt es für die Könige, die du um unserer Sünden willen über uns gesetzt hast; und sie schalten über unsere Leiber und über unser Vieh nach ihrem Wohlgefallen, und wir sind in großer Bedrängnis.
and its produce [is] abundant for the kings whom you did appoint over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction.
38 Und bei diesem allem machten und schrieben wir einen festen Bund; und [Und auf dieses alles hin machen und schreiben wir einen festen Bund. Und usw.] auf der untersiegelten Schrift standen die Namen unserer Obersten, [Eig. waren unsere Obersten [od. Fürsten] usw.] unserer Leviten und unserer Priester.
And in regard to all these circumstances we make a covenant, and write [it], and our princes, our Levites, [and] our priests, set their seal to [it].
