Lukas 4
1 Jesus aber, voll Heiligen Geistes, kehrte vom Jordan zurück und wurde durch [W. in [in der Kraft des]] den Geist in der Wüste vierzig Tage umhergeführt,
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River and was led by the Spirit into the desert,
2 indem er von dem Teufel versucht wurde. Und er aß in jenen Tagen nichts; und als sie vollendet waren, hungerte ihn.
where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. He didn't eat anything during that whole time, so at the end he was starving.
3 Und der Teufel sprach zu ihm: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so sprich zu diesem Steine, daß er Brot werde.
The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
4 Und Jesus antwortete ihm und sprach: Es steht geschrieben: "Nicht von Brot allein soll der Mensch leben, sondern von jedem Worte Gottes". [5. Mose 8,3]
“It is written in Scripture, ‘You shall not live on bread alone,’” Jesus answered.
5 Und der Teufel führte ihn auf einen hohen Berg und zeigte ihm in einem Augenblick alle Reiche des Erdkreises.
The devil led him up to a high place, and in a rapid view showed him all the kingdoms of the world.
6 Und der Teufel sprach zu ihm: Ich will dir alle diese Gewalt und ihre Herrlichkeit geben; denn mir ist sie übergeben, und wem irgend ich will, gebe ich sie.
Then the devil said to Jesus, “I will give you authority over all of them, and their glory. This authority has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want.
7 Wenn du nun vor mir anbeten [O. huldigen; so auch v 8] willst, soll sie alle dein sein.
Bow down and worship me and you can have it all.”
8 Und Jesus antwortete ihm und sprach: Es steht geschrieben: "Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, anbeten und ihm allein dienen". [5. Mose 6,13]
“It is written in Scripture, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve only him,’” Jesus replied.
9 Und er führte ihn nach Jerusalem und stellte ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels [die Gebäude] und sprach zu ihm: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so wirf dich von hier hinab;
The devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, set him on the top of the Temple, and told him, “If you are the Son of God, then jump!
10 denn es steht geschrieben: "Er wird seinen Engeln über dir befehlen, daß sie dich bewahren;
For it is written in Scripture, ‘He will order his angels to care for you,
11 und sie werden dich auf den Händen tragen, damit du nicht etwa deinen Fuß an einen Stein stoßest". [Ps. 91,11-12]
holding you up to protect you from stumbling over a stone.’”
12 Und Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Es ist gesagt: "Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen". [5. Mose 6,16]
“It is written in Scripture, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God,’” Jesus replied.
13 Und als der Teufel jede Versuchung vollendet hatte, wich er für eine Zeit [O. bis zu einer anderen Zeit] von ihm.
When the devil had completed all his temptations, he waited for another opportunity.
14 Und Jesus kehrte in der Kraft des Geistes nach Galiläa zurück, und das Gerücht über ihn ging aus durch die ganze Umgegend.
Jesus returned to Galilee, full of the Spirit's power. News about him spread everywhere.
15 Und er lehrte in ihren Synagogen, geehrt von allen.
Jesus taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 Und er kam nach Nazareth, wo er erzogen war; und er ging nach seiner Gewohnheit am Sabbathtage in die Synagoge und stand auf, um vorzulesen.
When he arrived in Nazareth, where he had grown up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day as usual.
17 Und es wurde ihm das Buch des Propheten Jesaias gereicht; und als er das Buch aufgerollt hatte, fand er die Stelle, wo geschrieben war:
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Jesus unrolled the scroll and found the place where it's written:
18 "Der Geist des Herrn ist auf mir, weil er mich gesalbt hat, Armen gute Botschaft zu verkündigen; er hat mich gesandt, Gefangenen Befreiung auszurufen und Blinden das Gesicht, Zerschlagene in Freiheit hinzusenden,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to announce good news to the destitute. He has sent me to proclaim that prisoners will be released, the blind will see, the oppressed will be freed,
19 auszurufen das angenehme [O. wohlgefällige] Jahr des Herrn". [Jes. 61,1-2]
and to proclaim the time of the Lord's favor.”
20 Und als er das Buch zugerollt hatte, gab er es dem Diener zurück und setzte sich; und aller Augen in der Synagoge waren auf ihn gerichtet.
He rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant. Then he sat down. Everybody in the synagogue was staring at him.
21 Er fing aber an, zu ihnen zu sagen: Heute ist diese Schrift vor euren Ohren erfüllt.
“This Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled today!” he told them.
22 Und alle gaben ihm Zeugnis und verwunderten sich über die Worte der Gnade, die aus seinem Munde hervorgingen; und sie sprachen: Ist dieser nicht der Sohn Josephs?
Everybody expressed their approval of him, amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn't this Joseph's son?” they wondered.
23 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr werdet allerdings dieses Sprichwort [Eig. Gleichnis] zu mir sagen: Arzt, heile dich selbst; alles, was wir gehört haben, daß es in Kapernaum geschehen sei, tue auch hier in deiner Vaterstadt.
Jesus replied, “I'm sure you'll repeat this proverb to me, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ and ask, ‘Why don't you do here in your own hometown what we heard you did in Capernaum?’
24 Er sprach aber: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, daß kein Prophet in seiner Vaterstadt angenehm [O. wohlgefällig] ist.
But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.
25 In Wahrheit aber sage ich euch: Viele Witwen waren in den Tagen Elias in Israel, als der Himmel drei Jahre und sechs Monate verschlossen war, so daß eine große Hungersnot über das ganze Land kam;
I guarantee that there were many widows in Israel during the time of Elijah when there was a drought for three and a half years, causing a great famine throughout the country.
26 und zu keiner von ihnen wurde Elias gesandt, als nur nach Sarepta in Sidonia, zu einem Weibe, einer Witwe.
Yet Elijah wasn't sent to any of them. He was sent to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon!
27 Und viele Aussätzige waren zur Zeit des Propheten Elisa in Israel, und keiner von ihnen wurde gereinigt, als nur Naaman, der Syrer.
Even though there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha, the only one who was healed was Naaman the Syrian!”
28 Und alle wurden von Wut erfüllt in der Synagoge, als sie dies hörten.
When they heard this everyone in the synagogue became furious.
29 Und sie standen auf und stießen ihn zur Stadt hinaus und führten ihn bis an den Rand des Berges, auf welchem ihre Stadt erbaut war, um ihn so hinabzustürzen.
They jumped to their feet and threw him out of the town. Then they dragged him to the top of the hill on which the town was built in order to throw him off the cliff.
30 Er aber, durch ihre Mitte hindurchgehend, ging hinweg.
But he walked right through them and went on his way.
31 Und er kam nach Kapernaum hinab, einer Stadt in Galiläa, und lehrte sie an den Sabbathen.
Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee. On Sabbath he started teaching them.
32 Und sie erstaunten sehr über seine Lehre, denn sein Wort war mit Gewalt.
They were amazed at what he taught them for he spoke with authority.
33 Und es war in der Synagoge ein Mensch, der einen Geist eines unreinen Dämons hatte, und er schrie auf mit lauter Stimme
In the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by a demon. He cried out,
34 und sprach: Laß ab! [O. Ha!] was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, Jesu, Nazarener? Bist du gekommen, uns zu verderben? Ich kenne dich, wer du bist: der Heilige Gottes.
“So, what do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: God's Holy One!”
35 Und Jesus bedrohte ihn und sprach: Verstumme und fahre aus von ihm! Und als der Dämon ihn mitten unter sie geworfen hatte, fuhr er von ihm aus, ohne ihn zu beschädigen.
Jesus interrupted him, saying. “Be quiet!” Then he ordered the demon, “Come out of him!” Throwing him to the ground right before them, the demon left the man without injuring him.
36 Und Entsetzen kam über alle, und sie redeten untereinander und sprachen: Was ist dies für ein Wort? denn mit Gewalt und Kraft gebietet er den unreinen Geistern, und sie fahren aus.
They were all amazed and asked each other, “What is this teaching? With power and authority he orders evil spirits to leave—and they do!”
37 Und das Gerücht über ihn ging aus in jeden Ort der Umgegend.
News about Jesus spread throughout the nearby region.
38 Er machte sich aber auf von der Synagoge und kam in das Haus Simons. Die Schwiegermutter des Simon aber war von einem starken Fieber befallen; und sie baten ihn für sie.
Leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was sick with a high fever and those who were there asked Jesus to help.
39 Und über ihr stehend, bedrohte er das Fieber, und es verließ sie; sie aber stand alsbald auf und diente ihnen.
Jesus went and stood over her. He told the fever to leave her—which it did. She got up right away and prepared a meal for them.
40 Als aber die Sonne unterging, brachten alle, welche an mancherlei Krankheiten Leidende hatten, dieselben zu ihm; er aber legte einem jeden von ihnen die Hände auf und heilte sie.
When the sun set, they brought to him all who were sick, suffering from various diseases. Jesus placed his hands on them, one after the other, and he healed them.
41 Und auch Dämonen fuhren von vielen aus, indem sie schrieen und sprachen: Du bist der Sohn Gottes. Und er bedrohte sie und ließ sie nicht reden, weil sie wußten, daß er der Christus war.
Demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God.” But Jesus stopped them and refused to let them speak because they knew he was the Christ.
42 Als es aber Tag geworden war, ging er aus und begab sich an einen öden Ort; und die Volksmenge suchte ihn auf und kam bis zu ihm, und sie hielten ihn auf, daß er nicht von ihnen ginge.
Early the following morning Jesus left to find some peace and quiet. But the crowds went out looking for him, and finally found him. They tried to stop him leaving because they did not want him to go.
43 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich muß auch den anderen Städten das Evangelium vom Reiche Gottes verkündigen, denn dazu bin ich gesandt worden.
But he told them, “I have to go to other towns to tell them the good news of the kingdom of God too, because that is what I was sent to do.”
44 Und er predigte in den Synagogen von Galiläa.
So Jesus went on traveling around, teaching the good news in the synagogues of Judea.
