Lukas 18
1 Er sagte ihnen aber auch ein Gleichnis dafür, daß sie allezeit beten und nicht ermatten sollten,
Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.
2 und sprach: Es war ein gewisser Richter in einer Stadt, der Gott nicht fürchtete und vor keinem Menschen sich scheute.
“There was,” he said, “in a certain town a judge, who had no fear of God nor regard for people.
3 Es war aber eine Witwe in jener Stadt; und sie kam zu ihm und sprach: Schaffe mir Recht von meinem Widersacher.
In the same town there was a widow who went to him again and again, and said ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’
4 Und eine Zeitlang wollte er nicht; danach aber sprach er bei sich selbst: Wenn ich auch Gott nicht fürchte und vor keinem Menschen mich scheue,
For a time the judge refused, but afterward he said to himself ‘Although I am without fear of God or regard for people,
5 so will ich doch, weil diese Witwe mir Mühe macht, [O. mich belästigt] ihr Recht verschaffen, auf daß sie nicht unaufhörlich komme und mich quäle. [O. endlich komme und mir ins Gesicht fahre]
yet, as this widow is so troublesome, I will grant her justice, to stop her from plaguing me with her endless visits.’”
6 Der Herr aber sprach: Höret, was der ungerechte Richter sagt.
Then the Master added, “Listen to what this iniquitous judge says!
7 Gott aber, sollte er das Recht seiner Auserwählten nicht ausführen, die Tag und Nacht zu ihm schreien, und ist er in Bezug auf sie langmütig?
And God – won’t he see that his own people, who cry to him night and day, have justice done them – though he holds his hand?
8 Ich sage euch, daß er ihr Recht schnell ausführen wird. Doch wird wohl der Sohn des Menschen, wenn er kommt, den Glauben finden auf der Erde?
He will, I tell you, give them justice soon enough! Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
9 Er sprach aber auch zu etlichen, die auf sich selbst vertrauten, daß sie gerecht seien, und die übrigen für nichts achteten, dieses Gleichnis:
Another time, speaking to people who were satisfied that they were religious, and who regarded everyone else with scorn, Jesus told this parable –
10 Zwei Menschen gingen hinauf in den Tempel, [die Gebäude] um zu beten, der eine ein Pharisäer und der andere ein Zöllner.
“Two men went up into the Temple Courts to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax-gatherer.
11 Der Pharisäer stand und betete bei sich selbst also: O Gott, ich danke dir, daß ich nicht bin wie die übrigen der Menschen, Räuber, Ungerechte, Ehebrecher, oder auch wie dieser Zöllner.
The Pharisee stood forward and began praying to himself in this way – ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men – thieves, rogues, adulterers – or even like this tax-gatherer.
12 Ich faste zweimal in der Woche, ich verzehnte alles, was ich erwerbe. [O. besitze]
I fast twice a week, and give a tenth of everything I get to God.’
13 Und der Zöllner, von ferne stehend, wollte sogar die Augen nicht aufheben gen Himmel, sondern schlug an seine Brust und sprach: O Gott, sei mir, dem Sünder, gnädig!
Meanwhile the tax-gatherer stood at a distance, not venturing even to raise his eyes to heaven, but he kept striking his breast and saying ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 Ich sage euch: Dieser ging gerechtfertigt hinab in sein Haus vor [O. gegenüber, d. i. im Gegensatz zu] jenem; denn jeder, der sich selbst erhöht, wird erniedrigt werden; wer aber sich selbst erniedrigt, wird erhöht werden.
This man, I tell you, went home pardoned, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, while everyone who humbles himself will be exalted.”
15 Sie brachten aber auch die Kindlein [Eig. Säuglinge] zu ihm, auf daß er sie anrühre. Als aber die Jünger es sahen, verwiesen sie es ihnen.
Some of the people were bringing even their babies to Jesus, for him to touch them; but, when the disciples saw it, they began to find fault with those who had brought them.
16 Jesus aber rief sie herzu und sprach: Lasset die Kindlein zu mir kommen und wehret ihnen nicht, denn solcher ist das Reich Gottes.
Jesus, however, called the little children to him. “Let the little children come to me,” he said, “and do not hinder them, for it is to the childlike that the kingdom of God belongs.
17 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer irgend das Reich Gottes nicht aufnehmen wird wie ein Kindlein, wird nicht in dasselbe eingehen.
I tell you, unless a man receives the kingdom of God like a child, he will not enter it at all.”
18 Und es fragte ihn ein gewisser Oberster und sprach: Guter Lehrer, was muß ich getan haben, um ewiges Leben zu ererben? (aiōnios g166)
And one of the leaders asked Jesus this question – “Good teacher, what must I do if I am to gain eternal life?” (aiōnios g166)
19 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Was heißest du mich gut? Niemand ist gut, als nur einer, Gott.
“Why do you call me good?” answered Jesus. “No one is good but God.
20 Die Gebote weißt du: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen; du sollst nicht töten; du sollst nicht stehlen; du sollst nicht falsches Zeugnis geben; ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter".
You know the commandments – Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not say what is false about others, Honor your father and your mother.”
21 Er aber sprach: Dies alles habe ich beobachtet von meiner Jugend an.
“I have observed all these,” he replied, “from childhood.”
22 Als aber Jesus dies hörte, sprach er zu ihm: Noch eines fehlt dir: verkaufe alles, was du hast, und verteile es an die Armen, und du wirst einen Schatz in den Himmeln haben, und komm, folge mir nach.
Hearing this, Jesus said to him, “There is one thing still lacking in you; sell everything that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven; then come and follow me.”
23 Als er aber dies hörte, wurde er sehr betrübt, denn er war sehr reich.
But the man became greatly distressed on hearing this, for he was extremely rich.
24 Als aber Jesus sah, daß er sehr betrübt wurde, sprach er: Wie schwerlich werden die, welche Güter [O. Vermögen, Geld] haben, in das Reich Gottes eingehen!
Seeing this, Jesus said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!
25 denn es ist leichter, daß ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr eingehe, als daß ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes eingehe.
It is easier, indeed, for a camel to get through a needle’s eye than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!”
26 Es sprachen aber die es hörten: Und wer kann dann errettet werden?
“Then who can be saved?” asked those who heard this.
27 Er aber sprach: Was bei Menschen unmöglich ist, ist möglich bei Gott.
But Jesus said, “What is impossible with people is possible with God.”
28 Petrus aber sprach: Siehe, wir haben alles [O. nach anderer Lesart: unser Eigentum] verlassen und sind dir nachgefolgt.
“But we,” said Peter, “we left what belonged to us and followed you.”
29 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es ist niemand, der Haus oder Eltern oder Brüder oder Weib oder Kinder verlassen hat um des Reiches Gottes willen,
“I tell you,” he answered, “that there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,
31 Er nahm aber die Zwölfe zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: Siehe, wir gehen hinauf nach Jerusalem, und es wird alles vollendet werden, was durch die Propheten auf den Sohn des Menschen geschrieben ist;
Gathering the Twelve around him, Jesus said to them, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem; and there everything that is written in the prophets will be done to the Son of Man.
32 denn er wird den Nationen überliefert werden und wird verspottet und geschmäht und angespieen werden;
For he will be given up to the Gentiles, mocked, insulted and spat on;
33 und wenn sie ihn gegeißelt haben, werden sie ihn töten, und am dritten Tage wird er auferstehen.
they will scourge him, and then put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.”
34 Und sie verstanden nichts von diesen Dingen, und dieses Wort war vor ihnen verborgen, [O. verhüllt, verschlossen] und sie begriffen das Gesagte nicht.
The apostles did not comprehend any of this. His meaning was unintelligible to them and they did not understand what he was saying.
35 Es geschah aber, als er Jericho nahte, saß ein gewisser Blinder bettelnd am Wege.
As Jesus was getting near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside, begging.
36 Und als er eine Volksmenge vorbeiziehen hörte, erkundigte er sich, was das wäre.
Hearing a crowd going by, the man asked what was the matter;
37 Sie verkündeten ihm aber, daß Jesus, der Nazaräer, vorübergehe.
and, when people told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing,
38 Und er rief und sprach: Jesu, Sohn Davids, erbarme dich meiner!
he shouted out, “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”
39 Und die Vorangehenden bedrohten ihn, daß er schweigen sollte; er aber schrie um so mehr: Sohn Davids, erbarme dich meiner!
Those who were in front kept telling him to be quiet, but he continued to call out the louder, “Son of David, take pity on me!”
40 Jesus aber stand still und hieß ihn zu sich führen. Als er aber sich näherte, fragte er ihn
Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. And, when he had come close up to him, Jesus asked him,
41 und sprach: Was willst du, daß ich dir tun soll? Er aber sprach: Herr, daß ich sehend werde!
“What do you want me to do for you?” “Master,” he said, “I want to recover my sight.”
42 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Sei sehend! dein Glaube hat dich geheilt. [O. gerettet]
And Jesus said, “Recover your sight, your faith has delivered you.”
43 Und alsbald ward er sehend und folgte ihm nach, indem er Gott verherrlichte. Und das ganze Volk, das es sah, gab Gott Lob.
Instantly he recovered his sight, and began to follow Jesus, praising God. And all the people, on seeing it, gave glory to God.
