Job 1
1 Es war Mann im Lande Uz, [Wahrscheinlich im heutigen Hauran, einem Teile des Gebietes, welches jenseit des Jordan dem halben Stamme Manasse zufiel] sein Name war Hiob; und selbiger Mann war vollkommen [O. unsträflich, untadelig] und rechtschaffen und gottesfürchtig und das Böse meidend.
There was a certain man in the land of Ausis, whose name [was] Job; and than man was true, blameless, righteous, [and] godly, abstaining from everything evil.
2 Und es wurden ihm sieben Söhne und drei Töchter geboren.
And he had seven sons and three daughters.
3 Und sein Besitztum bestand in siebentausend Schafen [Eig. Stück Kleinvieh] und dreitausend Kamelen und fünfhundert Joch Rindern und fünfhundert Eselinnen, und in sehr vielem Gesinde. Und selbiger Mann war größer als alle Söhne des Ostens.
And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was [most] noble of the [men] of the east.
4 Und seine Söhne gingen hin und machten in dem Hause eines jeden ein Gastmahl an seinem Tage; und sie sandten hin und luden ihre drei Schwestern ein, um mit ihnen zu essen und zu trinken.
And his sons visiting one another prepared a banquet every day, taking with them also their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5 Und es geschah, wenn die Tage des Gastmahls umgegangen waren, so sandte Hiob hin [d. h. er ließ sie holen] und heiligte sie; und er stand des Morgens früh auf und opferte Brandopfer nach ihrer aller Zahl; denn Hiob sprach: Vielleicht haben meine Kinder gesündigt und sich in ihrem Herzen von Gott losgesagt. [Das hebr. Zeitwort bedeutet eigentlich: jemand Lebewohl sagen, und daher, in Verbindung mit Gott, sich von ihm lossagen, ihn fahren lassen; so auch v 11;2,5. 9] Also tat Hiob allezeit.
And when the days of the banquet were completed, Job sent and purified them, having risen up in the morning, and offered sacrifices for them, according to their number, and one calf for a sin-offering for their souls: for Job said, Lest peradventure my sons have thought evil in their minds against God. Thus, then Job did continually.
6 Und es geschah eines Tages, da kamen die Söhne Gottes, um sich vor Jehova zu stellen; und auch Satan [d. i. der Widersacher, Ankläger; vergl. Ps. 109,6] kam in ihrer Mitte.
And it came to pass on a day, that behold, the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, and the devil came with them.
7 Und Jehova sprach zu Satan: Wo kommst du her? Und Satan antwortete Jehova und sprach: Vom Durchstreifen der Erde und vom Umherwandeln auf ihr.
And the Lord said to the devil, Whence art thou come? And the devil answered the Lord, and said, I am come from compassing the earth, and walking up and down in the world.
8 Und Jehova sprach zu Satan: Hast du achtgehabt auf meinen Knecht Hiob? denn seinesgleichen ist kein Mann auf Erden, vollkommen und rechtschaffen, gottesfürchtig und das Böse meidend.
And the Lord said to him, Hast thou diligently considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a man blameless, true, godly, abstaining from everything evil?
9 Und der Satan antwortete Jehova und sprach: Ist es umsonst, daß Hiob Gott fürchtet?
Then the devil answered, and said before the Lord, Does Job worship the Lord for nothing?
10 Hast du nicht selbst ihn und sein Haus und alles, was er hat, ringsum eingezäunt? Du hast das Werk seiner Hände gesegnet, und sein Besitztum hat sich ausgebreitet im Lande.
Hast thou not made a hedge about him, and about his household, and all his possessions round about? and hast thou not blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his cattle upon the land?
11 Aber strecke einmal deine Hand aus und taste alles an, was er hat, ob er sich nicht offen [W. ins Angesicht] von dir lossagen wird.
But put forth thine hand, and touch all that he has: verily he will bless thee to [thy] face.
12 Da sprach Jehova zu Satan: Siehe, alles, was er hat, ist in deiner Hand; nur nach ihm strecke deine Hand nicht aus. Und Satan ging von dem Angesicht Jehovas hinweg.
Then the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I give into thine hand all that he has, but touch not himself. So the devil went out from the presence of the Lord.
13 Und es geschah eines Tages, als seine Söhne und seine Töchter im Hause ihres erstgeborenen Bruders aßen und Wein tranken,
And it came to pass on a certain day, that Job's sons and his daughters were drinking wine in the house of their elder brother.
14 da kam ein Bote zu Hiob und sprach: Die Rinder pflügten, und die Eselinnen weideten neben ihnen,
And, behold, there came a messenger to Job, and said to him, The yokes of oxen were ploughing, and the she-asses were feeding near them;
15 da fielen Sabäer ein und nahmen sie weg, und die Knechte [Eig. Knaben, Knappen] erschlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; und ich bin entronnen, nur ich allein, um es dir zu berichten.
and the spoilers came and took them for a prey, and slew the servants with the sword; and I having escaped alone am come to tell thee.
16 Dieser redete noch, da kam ein anderer und sprach: Feuer Gottes ist vom Himmel gefallen und hat das Kleinvieh und die Knechte [Eig. Knaben, Knappen] verbrannt und sie verzehrt; und ich bin entronnen, nur ich allein, um es dir zu berichten.
While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, Fire has fallen from heaven, and burnt up the sheep, and devoured the shepherds like wise; and I having escaped alone am come to tell thee.
17 Dieser redete noch, da kam ein anderer und sprach: Die Chaldäer haben drei Haufen gebildet und sind über die Kamele hergefallen und haben sie weggenommen, und die Knechte [Eig. Knaben, Knappen] haben sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes erschlagen; und ich bin entronnen, nur ich allein, um es dir zu berichten.
While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, The horsemen formed three companies against us, and surrounded the camels, and took them for a prey, and slew the servants with the sword; and I only escaped, and am come to tell thee.
18 Während dieser noch redete, da kam ein anderer und sprach: Deine Söhne und deine Töchter aßen und tranken Wein im Hause ihres erstgeborenen Bruders;
While he is yet speaking, another messenger comes, saying to Job, While thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking with their elder brother,
19 und siehe, ein starker Wind kam von jenseit der Wüste her und stieß an die vier Ecken des Hauses, und es fiel auf die jungen Leute, und sie starben; und ich bin entronnen, nur ich allein, um es dir zu berichten. -
suddenly a great wind came on from the desert, and caught the four corners of the house, and the house fell upon thy children, and they are dead; and I have escaped alone, and am come to tell thee.
20 Da stand Hiob auf und zerriß sein Gewand und schor sein Haupt; und er fiel zur Erde nieder und betete an.
So Job arose, and rent his garments, and shaved the hair of his head, and fell on the earth, and worshipped,
21 Und er sprach: Nackt bin ich aus meiner Mutter Leibe gekommen, und nackt werde ich dahin zurückkehren; [Vergl. Pred. 5,15] Jehova hat gegeben, und Jehova hat genommen, der Name Jehovas sei gepriesen!
and said, I myself came forth naked from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither; the Lord gave, the Lord has taken away: as it seemed good to the Lord, so has it come to pass; blessed be the name of the Lord.
22 Bei diesem allem sündigte Hiob nicht und schrieb Gott nichts Ungereimtes zu.
In all these events that befell him Job sinned not at all before the Lord, and did not impute folly to God.
