Jesaja 9
1 Doch [O. denn] nicht bleibt Finsternis dem Lande, welches Bedrängnis hat. Um die erste Zeit hat er das Land Sebulon und das Land Naphtali verächtlich gemacht; und in der letzten bringt er zu Ehren den Weg am Meere, [d. h. am Meere Tiberias] das Jenseitige des Jordan, den Kreis [Hebr. Gelil; das nördliche Grenzdistrikt Palästinas, ein Teil des späteren Galiläa] der Nationen.
Drink this first. Act quickly, O land of Zabulon, land of Nephthalim, and the rest [inhabiting] the sea-coast, and [the land] beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.
2 Das Volk, [And. üb.: Doch wird die Finsternis nicht sein, wie die Bedrängnis auf der Erde war, als es im Anfang leicht auf dem Lande Sebulon und dem Lande Naphtali lag, und später schwerer wurde Weg am Meere, jenseit des Jordan, Galiläa der Nationen: das Volk] das im Finstern wandelt, hat ein großes Licht gesehen; die da wohnen im Lande des Todesschattens, Licht hat über sie geleuchtet.
O people walking in darkness, behold a great light: ye that dwell in the region [and] shadow of death, a light shall shine upon you.
3 Du hast die Nation vermehrt, hast ihr groß gemacht [And. l.: Du hast das Frohlocken vermehrt, hast groß gemacht usw.] die Freude; sie freuen sich vor dir, gleich der Freude in der Ernte, wie man frohlockt beim Verteilen der Beute.
The multitude of the people which thou hast brought down in thy joy, they shall even rejoice before thee as they that rejoice in harvest, and as they that divide the spoil.
4 Denn das Joch ihrer Last und den Stab ihrer Schulter, den Stock ihres Treibers hast du zerschlagen wie am Tage Midians.
Because the yoke that was laid upon them has been taken away, and the rod that was on their neck: for he has broken the rod of the exactors, as in the day of Madiam.
5 Denn jeder Stiefel der Gestiefelten im Getümmel, und jedes Gewand, in Blut gewälzt, die werden zum Brande, ein Fraß des Feuers.
For they shall compensate for every garment that has been acquired by deceit, and [all] raiment with restitution; and they shall be willing, [even] if they were burnt with fire.
6 Denn ein Kind ist uns geboren, ein Sohn uns gegeben, und die Herrschaft ruht auf seiner Schulter; und man nennt seinen Namen: Wunderbarer, Berater, [O. Wunder-Rat] starker Gott, [El] Vater der Ewigkeit, [O. Ewigvater] Friedefürst.
For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, whose government is upon his shoulder: and his name is called the Messenger of great counsel: for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to him.
7 Die Mehrung der Herrschaft und der Friede werden kein Ende haben auf dem Throne Davids und über sein Königreich, um es zu befestigen und zu stützen durch Gericht und durch Gerechtigkeit, von nun an bis in Ewigkeit. Der Eifer Jehovas der Heerscharen wird dieses tun.
His government shall be great, and of his peace there is no end: [it shall be] upon the throne of David, and [upon] his kingdom, to establish it, and to support [it] with judgment and with righteousness, from henceforth and forever. The seal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.
8 Der Herr hat ein Wort gesandt wider Jakob, und es steigt hernieder in Israel.
The Lord has sent death upon Jacob, and it has come upon Israel.
9 Und das ganze Volk wird es erfahren, Ephraim und die Bewohner von Samaria, die in Hochmut und in Überhebung des Herzens sprechen:
And all the people of Ephraim, and they that dwelt in Samaria shall know, who say in their pride and lofty heart,
10 Die Ziegelsteine sind eingefallen, aber mit behauenen Steinen bauen wir auf; die Sykomoren sind abgehauen, aber wir setzen Cedern an ihre Stelle.
The bricks are fallen down, but come, let us hew stones, and cut down sycamores and cedars, and let us build for ourselves a tower.
11 Denn Jehova wird die Bedränger Rezins über dasselbe erheben [d. h. wird ihnen die Übermacht über Ephraim geben] und seine Feinde aufreizen:
And God shall dash down them that rise up against him on mount Sion, and shall scatter his enemies;
12 die Syrer von Osten und die Philister von Westen; und sie werden Israel fressen mit vollem Maule. -Bei dem allen wendet sich sein Zorn nicht ab, und noch ist seine Hand ausgestreckt.
[even] Syria from the rising of the sun, and the Greeks from the setting of the sun, who devour Israel with open mouth. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but still [his] hand is exalted.
13 Und das Volk kehrt nicht um zu dem, der es schlägt, und Jehova der Heerscharen suchen sie nicht.
But the people turned not until they were smitten, and they sought not the Lord.
14 Und Jehova wird aus Israel Haupt und Schwanz, Palmzweig und Binse ausrotten [Eig. Da rottet Jehova aus usw.] an einem Tage.
So the Lord took away from Israel the head and tail, great and small, in one day:
15 Der Älteste und Angesehene, er ist das Haupt; und der Prophet, der Lüge lehrt, er ist der Schwanz.
the old man, and them that respect persons, this is the head; and the prophet teaching unlawful things, he is the tail.
16 Denn die Leiter dieses Volkes führen irre, und die von ihnen Geleiteten werden verschlungen.
And they that pronounce this people blessed shall mislead them; and they mislead them that they may devour them.
17 Darum wird sich der Herr über dessen Jünglinge nicht freuen, [And. l.: wird der Herr dessen Jünglinge nicht verschonen] und seiner Waisen und seiner Witwen sich nicht erbarmen; denn sie allesamt sind Ruchlose und Übeltäter, und jeder Mund redet Torheit. [Zugl.: Gottlosigkeit, Gemeinheit] Bei dem allen wendet sich sein Zorn nicht ab, und noch ist seine Hand ausgestreckt.
Therefore the Lord shall not take pleasure in their young men, neither shall he have pity on their orphans or on their widows: for they are all transgressors and wicked, and every mouth speaks unjustly. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but [his] hand is yet exalted.
18 Denn die Gesetzlosigkeit brennt wie Feuer: sie verzehrt Dornen und Disteln, und zündet in den Dickichten des Waldes, daß sie emporwirbeln in hoch aufsteigendem Rauche.
And iniquity shall burn as fire, and shall be devoured by fire as dry grass: and it shall burn in the thickets of the wood, and shall devour all that is round about the hills.
19 Durch den Grimm Jehovas der Heerscharen ist das Land verbrannt, und das Volk ist wie eine Speise des Feuers geworden; keiner schont den anderen.
The whole earth is set on fire because of the fierce anger of the Lord, and the people shall be as men burnt by fire: no man shall pity his brother.
20 Und man schlingt zur Rechten und hungert, und man frißt zur Linken und wird nicht satt. Sie fressen ein jeder das Fleisch seines eigenen Armes:
But [one] shall turn aside to the right hand, for he shall be hungry; and shall eat on the left, and a man shall by no means be satisfied with eating the flesh of his own arm.
21 Manasse den Ephraim, und Ephraim den Manasse; diese miteinander fallen über Juda her. -Bei dem allen wendet sich sein Zorn nicht ab, und noch ist seine Hand ausgestreckt.
For Manasses shall eat [the flesh] of Ephraim, and Ephraim [the flesh] of Manasses; for they shall besiege Juda together. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but [his] hand is yet exalted.
