Psalm 140
1 Dem Sangmeister. Ein Psalm Davids.
Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;
2 Rette mich, Jahwe, von bösen Menschen, / Bewahre mich vor den Gewalttätigen,
Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
3 Die im Herzen Böses sinnen, / Die täglich Streit erregen!
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. (Selah)
4 Sie schärfen ihre Zunge wie eine Schlange, / Unter ihren Lippen ist Otterngift. (Sela)
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
5 Behüte mich, Jahwe, vor Frevlerhänden, / Bewahre mich vor den Gewalttätigen, / Die da sinnen auf meinen Sturz!
The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. (Selah)
6 Stolze haben mir heimlich Schlingen und Seile gelegt, / Ein Netz gebreitet meinen Pfad entlang, / Sie haben mir Fallen gestellt. (Sela)
I said to the LORD, You are my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.
7 Ich aber habe zu Jahwe gesagt: "Mein Gott bist du, / Vernimm doch, Jahwe, mein lautes Flehn!
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Jahwe Adonái, du meine mächtige Hilfe, / Der du mein Haupt am Tage des Kampfes beschirmst,
Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. (Selah)
9 Erfülle nicht, Jahwe, der Frevler Begehren, / Ihren Anschlag laß nicht gelingen! / Sie würden sich sonst überheben." (Sela)
As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
10 Das Haupt derer, die mich umlauern, / Möge das Unheil bedecken, das sie wider mich geredet!
Let burning coals fall on them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
11 Mögen glühende Kohlen auf sie fallen! / Ins Feuer stürze er sie, / In Fluten, draus sie nicht wieder auftauchen können!
Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
12 Ein Verleumder wird nicht im Lande bestehn; / Der Gewaltmensch werde vom Unglück gejagt ins Verderben!
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
13 Ich weiß, daß Jahwe des Elenden Sache führen, / Den Armen zum Rechte verhelfen wird. Fürwahr, die Gerechten werden deinem Namen danken, / Die Redlichen bleiben vor deinem Antlitz.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name: the upright shall dwell in your presence.
