Psaumes 56

1 Au maître-chantre. — Sur «Colombe des térébinthes lointains.»!- Poème de David, lorsque les Philistins le prirent dans Gath. Aie pitié de moi, ô Dieu! Car des hommes s'acharnent à ma perte; Tout le jour ils m'assaillent et me persécutent.

For the end, concerning the people that were removed from the sanctuary, by David for a memorial, when the Philistines caught him in Geth. Have mercy upon me, O God; for man has trodden me down; all the day long he warring has afflicted me.

2 Tout le jour mes adversaires s'acharnent à me perdre; Car ils sont nombreux, ceux qui me provoquent avec insolence.

Mine enemies have trodden me down all the day from the dawning of the day; for there are many warring against me.

3 Aux jours d'alarme, Je me confierai en toi.

They shall be afraid, but I will trust in you.

4 Avec le secours de Dieu, j'exalterai sa parole. En Dieu je me confie, je ne crains rien; Que pourrait me faire l'homme mortel?

In God I will praise my words; all the day have I hoped in God; I will not fear what flesh shall do to me.

5 Sans cesse ils tordent mes paroles; Toutes leurs pensées tendent à me nuire.

All the day long they have abominated my words; all their devices [are] against me for evil.

6 Ils s'assemblent, ils s'embusquent, ils observent mes pas; Car ils en veulent à ma vie.

They will dwell near and hide [themselves]; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul.

7 La méchanceté les sauvera-t-elle? Dieu, précipite les peuples dans ta colère!

You will on no account save them; you will bring down the people in wrath.

8 Tu comptes mes pas dans ma vie d'exil; Recueille mes larmes dans tes urnes: Ne sont-elles pas inscrites dans ton livre?

O God, I have declared my life to you; you has set my tears before you, even according to your promise.

9 Au jour où je crierai, mes ennemis reculeront; Je sais que Dieu est pour moi.

Mine enemies shall be turned back, in the day wherein I shall call upon you; behold, I know that you are my God.

10 Avec le secours de Dieu, j'exalterai sa parole; Oui, avec le secours de l'Eternel, j'exalterai sa parole.

In God, will I praise [his] word; in the Lord will I praise [his] saying.

11 En Dieu je me confie; je ne crains rien; Que pourrait me faire l'homme mortel?

I have hoped in God; I will not be afraid of what man shall do to me.

12 Dieu, je me souviens des promesses que je t'ai faites. Je te rendrai des actions de grâces!

The vows of your praise, O God, which I will pay, are upon me.

13 Car tu as délivré mon âme de la mort, Et tu préserveras mes pieds de toute chute. Afin que je marche devant toi, ô Dieu, Dans la lumière de la vie!

For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from sliding, that I should be well-pleasing before God in the land of the living.
