Luc 3
1 La quinzième année du règne de Tibère César, — Ponce Pilate étant gouverneur de la Judée, Hérode tétrarque de la Galilée, Philippe, son frère, tétrarque de l'Iturée et de la province de la Trachonite, et Lysanias tétrarque de l'Abylène,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 Anne et Caïphe étant souverains sacrificateurs, — la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Jean, fils de Zacharie, dans le désert.
in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 Alors Jean parcourut toute la contrée voisine du Jourdain, prêchant le baptême de la repentance, pour la rémission des péchés,
And he came into all the region round about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins;
4 ainsi qu'il est écrit dans le livre des paroles du prophète Ésaïe: «Une voix crie dans le désert: Préparez le chemin du Seigneur; aplanissez ses sentiers.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
5 Toute vallée sera comblée, toute montagne et toute colline seront abaissées; les chemins tortueux seront redressés, les chemins raboteux seront aplanis;
Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth;
6 et toute créature verra le salut de Dieu.»
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
7 Il disait donc à la foule qui venait pour être baptisée par lui: Race de vipères, qui vous a appris à fuir la colère à venir?
He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Produisez donc des fruits dignes d'une vraie repentance! Et n'allez pas dire en vous-mêmes: Nous avons Abraham pour père. Car je vous dis que, de ces pierres. Dieu peut faire naître des enfants à Abraham.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 Déjà la cognée est mise à la racine des arbres. Tout arbre qui ne produit pas de bons fruits va être coupé et jeté au feu.
And even now is the axe also laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 Alors la foule lui demanda: Que ferons-nous donc?
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
11 Il leur répondit: Que celui qui a deux tuniques, en donne une à celui qui n'en a point; et que celui qui a de quoi manger agisse de même.
And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
12 Il vint aussi des péagers pour être baptisés; et ils lui dirent: Maître, que ferons-nous?
And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Master, what must we do?
13 Il leur répondit: N'exigez rien au delà de ce qui vous est ordonné.
And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you.
14 Des gens de guerre lui demandèrent aussi: Et nous, que ferons-nous? Il leur répondit: N'usez ni de violence ni de fraude envers personne; mais contentez-vous de votre solde.
And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither exact [anything] wrongfully; and be content with your wages.
15 Comme le peuple était dans l'attente, et que tous se demandaient en leur coeur si Jean ne serait pas le Christ,
And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ;
16 Jean, prenant la parole, dit à tous: Pour moi, je vous baptise d'eau; mais il vient, celui qui est plus puissant que moi! Je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie de ses chaussures; c'est lui qui vous baptisera d'Esprit saint et de feu.
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:
17 Il a son van dans sa main, il nettoiera parfaitement son aire et amassera le froment dans son grenier; mais il brûlera la paille au feu qui ne s'éteint point.
whose fan is in his hand, throughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
18 Il adressait encore plusieurs autres exhortations au peuple, en lui annonçant la bonne nouvelle.
With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people;
19 Mais Hérode le tétrarque, étant repris par Jean au sujet d'Hérodias, femme de son frère, et au sujet de tous les crimes qu'il avait commis,
but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,
20 ajouta encore à tous les autres celui de faire mettre Jean en prison.
added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 Or, comme tout le peuple se faisait baptiser, Jésus se fit baptiser, lui aussi. Pendant qu'il priait, le ciel s'ouvrit,
Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 et le Saint-Esprit descendit sur lui, sous une forme corporelle, comme une colombe; et il vint du ciel une voix qui dit: Tu es mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mis toute mon affection!
and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
23 Jésus avait environ trente ans, lorsqu'il commença son ministère. Il était, à ce que l'on croyait, fils de Joseph, fils d'Héli,
And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli,

the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Jannai, the [son] of Joseph,

the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Amos, the [son] of Nahum, the [son] of Esli, the [son] of Naggai,

the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semein, the [son] of Josech, the [son] of Joda,
27 fils de Joanan, fils de Rhésa, fils de Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, fils de Néri,
the [son] of Joanan, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel, the [son] of Neri,
28 fils de Melchi, fils d'Addi, fils de Cosam, fils d'Elmadam, fils d'Er,
the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Addi, the [son] of Cosam, the [son] of Elmadam, the [son] of Er,
29 fils de Jésus, fils d'Éliézer, fils de Jorim, fils de Matthat, fils de Lévi,
the [son] of Jesus, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi,
30 fils de Siméon, fils de Juda, fils de Joseph, fils de Jonam, fils d'Éliakim,
the [son] of Symeon, the [son] of Judas, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Jonam, the [son] of Eliakim,
31 fils de Méléa, fils de Menna, fils de Mattatha, fils de Nathan, fils de David,
the [son] of Melea, the [son] of Menna, the [son] of Mattatha, the [son] of Nathan, the [son] of David,
32 fils de Jessé, fils de Jobed, fils de Booz, fils de Sala, fils de Naasson,
the [son] of Jesse, the [son] of Obed, the [son] of Boaz, the [son] of Salmon, the [son] of Nahshon,
33 fils d'Aminadab, fils d'Admin, fils d'Arni, fils d'Esrom, fils de Pharez, fils de Juda,
the [son] of Amminadab, the [son] of Arni, the [son] of Hezron, the [son] of Perez, the [son] of Judah,
34 fils de Jacob, fils d'Isaac, fils d'Abraham, fils de Thara, fils de Nachor,
the [son] of Jacob, the [son] of Isaac, the [son] of Abraham, the [son] of Terah, the [son] of Nahor,
35 fils de Séruch, fils de Ragaù, fils de Phalek, fils de Héber, fils de Sala,
the [son] of Serug, the [son] of Reu, the [son] of Peleg, the [son] of Eber, the [son] of Shelah,
36 fils de Caïnam, fils d'Arphaxad, fils de Sem, fils de Noé, fils de Lamech,
the [son] of Cainan, the [son] of Arphaxad, the [son] of Shem, the [son] of Noah, the [son] of Lamech,
37 fils de Mathusala, fils d'Hénoch, fils de Jared, fils de Maléléel, fils de Caïnam,
the [son] of Methuselah, the [son] of Enoch, the [son] of Jared, the [son] of Mahalaleel, the [son] of Cainan,
38 fils d'Énos, fils de Seth, fils d'Adam, fils de Dieu.
the [son] of Enos, the [son] of Seth, the [son] of Adam, the [son] of God.
