Luc 19
1 Jésus, étant entré dans Jérico, passait par la ville.
Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.
2 Il y avait là un homme appelé Zachée; c'était le chef des péagers, et il était riche.
There was a man there, known by the name of Zacchaeus, who was a senior tax collector and a rich man.
3 Il cherchait à voir qui était Jésus, mais il ne le pouvait pas à cause de la foule, parce qu'il était de petite taille.
He tried to see what Jesus was like; but, being short, he was unable to do so because of the crowd.
4 Il courut donc en avant et monta sur un sycomore pour voir Jésus, parce qu'il devait passer par là.
So he ran on ahead and climbed into a mulberry tree to see Jesus, for he knew that he must pass that way.
5 Jésus, arrivé à cet endroit, leva les yeux et lui dit: Zachée, hâte-toi de descendre; car il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison.
When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, be quick and come down, for I must stop at your house today.’
6 Zachée se hâta de descendre et reçut Jésus avec joie.
So Zacchaeus got down quickly, and joyfully welcomed him.
7 Voyant cela, tous murmuraient et disaient: Il est entré chez un pécheur pour y loger!
On seeing this, everyone began to complain, ‘He has gone to stay with a man who is an outcast.’
8 Mais Zachée, se tenant debout devant le Seigneur, lui dit: Seigneur, voici que je donne la moitié de mes biens aux pauvres, et si j'ai fait tort à quelqu'un en quoi que ce soit, je lui rends quatre fois autant.
But Zacchaeus stood forward and said to the Master, ‘Listen, Master! I will give half my property to the poor, and, if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give him back four times as much.’
9 Alors Jésus lui dit: Aujourd'hui le salut est entré dans cette maison, parce que celui-ci est aussi un fils d'Abraham.
‘Salvation has come to this house today,’ answered Jesus, ‘for even this man is a son of Abraham.
10 Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui est perdu.
The Son of Man has come to search for those who are lost and to save them.’
11 Comme on écoutait ces paroles, Jésus ajouta une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'on croyait que le royaume de Dieu allait apparaître soudain.
As the people were listening to this, Jesus went on to tell them a parable. He did so because he was near Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to be proclaimed at once.
12 Il dit donc: Un homme de haute naissance s'en alla dans un pays éloigné, pour être investi de l'autorité royale et revenir ensuite.
He said, ‘A nobleman once went to a distant country to receive his appointment to a kingdom and then return.
13 Il appela dix de ses serviteurs, leur donna dix mines, et il leur dit: Faites-les valoir jusqu'à ce que je revienne.
He called ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds of silver each, and told them to trade with them during his absence.
14 Mais les gens de son pays le haïssaient; et ils envoyèrent une ambassade après lui, pour dire: Nous ne voulons pas que celui-ci règne sur nous!
But his subjects hated him and sent envoys after him to say “We will not have this man as our king.”
15 Lorsqu'il fut de retour, après avoir été investi de l'autorité royale, il fit venir ses serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l'argent, pour savoir combien chacun lui avait fait rapporter.
On his return, after having been appointed king, he directed that the servants to whom he had given his money should be summoned, so that he might learn what amount of trade they had done.
16 Le premier se présenta et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a produit dix autres mines.
The first came up, and said “Sir, your ten pounds have made a hundred.”
17 Et il lui dit: Cela va bien, bon serviteur; puisque tu as été fidèle en très peu de chose, tu auras le gouvernement de dix villes.
“Well done, good servant!” exclaimed the master. “As you have proved trustworthy in a very small matter, I appoint you governor over ten towns.”
18 Le second vint et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a produit cinq mines.
When the second came, he said “Your ten pounds, Sir, have produced fifty.”
19 Il lui dit aussi: Et toi, commande à cinq villes.
So the master said to him “And you I appoint over five towns.”
20 Un autre vint et dit: Seigneur, voici ta mine que j'ai gardée, enveloppée dans un linge;
Another servant also came and said “Sir, here are your ten pounds; I have kept them put away in a handkerchief.
21 car je te craignais, parce que tu es un homme dur; tu prends ce que tu n'as pas placé, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as pas semé.
For I was afraid of you, because you are a stern man. You take what you have not planted, and reap what you have not sown.”
22 Son maître lui répondit: Méchant serviteur, je te jugerai sur tes propres paroles. Tu savais que je suis un homme dur, qui prend ce qu'il n'a pas placé, et qui moissonne ce qu'il n'a pas semé.
The master answered “Out of your own mouth I judge you, you worthless servant. You knew that I am a stern man, that I take what I have not planted, and reap what I have not sown?
23 Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas mis mon argent dans une banque? A mon retour, je l'aurais retiré avec l'intérêt.
Then why didn’t you put my money into a bank? And I, on my return, could have claimed it with interest.
24 Et il dit à ceux qui étaient présents: Otez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui a les dix mines.
Take away from him the ten pounds,” he said to those standing by, “and give them to the one who has the hundred.”
25 Ils lui répondirent: Seigneur, il a dix mines!
“But, Sir,” they said, “he has a hundred pounds already!”
26 — Je vous le déclare, on donnera à celui qui a; mais à celui qui n'a pas, cela même qu'il a lui sera ôté.
“I tell you,” he answered, “that, to him who has, more will be given, but, from him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.
27 Quant à mes ennemis, ceux qui n'ont pas voulu que je règne sur eux, amenez-les ici et égorgez-les en ma présence.
But as for my enemies, these men who would not have me as their king, bring them here and put them to death in my presence.”’
28 Après avoir dit cela, Jésus allait devant eux, montant à Jérusalem.
After saying this, Jesus went on in front, going up to Jerusalem.
29 Lorsqu'il fut arrivé près de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers la montagne appelée montagne des Oliviers, il envoya deux de ses disciples,
It was when Jesus had almost reached Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, that he sent on two of the disciples.
30 et il leur dit: Allez au village qui est devant vous; en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, que personne n'a jamais monté; détachez-le et amenez-le-moi.
‘Go to the village facing us,’ he said, ‘and, when you get there, you will find a foal tethered, which no one has yet ridden; untie it and lead it here.
31 Si quelqu'un vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous lui répondrez: Le Seigneur en a besoin.
And, if anybody asks you “Why are you untying it?”, you are to say this – “The Master wants it.”’
32 Ceux qui étaient envoyés partirent, et ils trouvèrent les choses comme Jésus le leur avait dit.
So the two who were sent went and found it as Jesus had told them.
33 Pendant qu'ils détachaient l'ânon, ceux à qui il appartenait leur dirent: Pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon?
While they were untying the foal, the owners asked them – ‘Why are you untying the foal?’
34 Ils répondirent: Le Seigneur en a besoin.
And the two disciples answered – ‘The Master wants it.’
35 Et ils l'amenèrent à Jésus. Puis, ayant mis leurs vêtements sur l'ânon, ils y firent monter Jésus.
Then they led it back to Jesus, and threw their cloaks on the foal and put Jesus on it.
36 Comme il s'avançait, les gens étendaient leurs vêtements sur le chemin.
As he went along, the people kept spreading their cloaks in the road.
37 Et lorsqu'il approcha de la descente de la montagne des Oliviers, toute la multitude des disciples, transportée de joie, se mit à louer Dieu, à haute voix, de tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus.
When he had almost reached the place where the road led down the Mount of Olives, everyone of the many disciples began in their joy to praise God loudly for all the miracles that they had seen:
38 Ils disaient: Béni soit le Roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire dans les lieux très hauts!
‘Blessed is He who comes – our king – in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory on high.’
39 Alors quelques-uns des pharisiens, qui étaient dans la foule, lui dirent: Maître, reprends tes disciples!
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, restrain your disciples.’
40 Il leur répondit: Je vous le déclare: s'ils se taisent, les pierres crieront!
But Jesus answered, ‘I tell you that if they are silent, the stones will call out.’
41 Quand il fut près de la ville, en la voyant, Jésus pleura sur elle, et il dit:
When he drew near, on seeing the city, he wept over it, and said,
42 Si tu avais reconnu, toi aussi, au moins en ce jour, ce qui pouvait te donner la paix! Mais maintenant ces choses sont cachées à tes yeux.
‘If only you had known, while yet there was time – even you – the things that make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your sight.
43 Car des jours viendront sur toi où tes ennemis t'environneront de tranchées, t'investiront et te serreront de toutes parts.
For a time is coming when your enemies will surround you with earthworks, and encircle you, and hem you in on all sides;
44 Ils te détruiront entièrement, toi et tes enfants au milieu de toi; et ils ne te laisseront pas une pierre sur une autre pierre, parce que tu n'as point reconnu le temps où tu as été visitée.
they will trample you down and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone on another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.’
45 Quand il fut entré dans le temple, il se mit à chasser ceux qui y vendaient en leur disant:
Jesus went into the Temple Courts and began to drive out those who were selling,
46 Il est écrit: «Ma maison sera une maison de prière!» Et vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs.
saying as he did so, ‘Scripture says – “My house will be a house of prayer”; but you have made it a den of robbers.’
47 Il enseignait chaque jour dans le temple. Les principaux sacrificateurs, les scribes et les premiers du peuple cherchaient à le faire mourir;
Jesus continued to teach each day in the Temple Courts; but the chief priests and teachers of the Law were eager to take his life, and so also were the leaders of the people.
48 mais ils ne savaient comment s'y prendre, car tout le peuple, en l'écoutant, était suspendu à ses lèvres.
Yet they could not see what to do, for the people all hung on his words.
