Luc 15
1 Tous les péagers et les pécheurs s'approchaient de Jésus pour l'entendre.
Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming close to him to hear him.
2 Et les pharisiens et les scribes murmuraient, disant: Cet homme accueille des pécheurs et mange avec eux!
The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them."
3 Alors il leur dit cette parabole:
He told them this parable.
4 Quel est l'homme d'entre vous, qui, ayant cent brebis, s'il en perd une, ne laisse les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf au désert, pour aller chercher celle qui est perdue, jusqu'à ce qu'il l'ait trouvée?
"Which one of you, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?
5 Et quand il l'a trouvée, il la met tout joyeux sur ses épaules;
When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 puis, arrivé à la maison, il appelle ses amis et ses voisins, et il leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, car j'ai trouvé ma brebis qui était perdue.
When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'
7 Je vous dis qu'il y aura, de même, plus de joie dans le ciel pour un seul pécheur qui se repent, que pour quatre-vingt-dix-neuf justes qui n'ont pas besoin de repentance.
I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.
8 Ou bien, quelle est la femme qui, ayant dix drachmes, si elle en perd une, n'allume une lampe, ne balaie la maison et ne cherche avec soin, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'ait trouvée?
Or what woman, if she had ten drachma coins, if she lost one drachma coin, would not light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she found it?
9 Et quand elle l'a trouvée, elle appelle ses amies et ses voisines, et elle leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi; car j'ai trouvé la drachme que j'avais perdue.
When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.'
10 De même, je vous le déclare, il y a de la joie, devant les anges de Dieu, pour un seul pécheur qui se repent.
Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting."
11 Il dit encore: Un homme avait deux fils.
He said, "A certain man had two sons.
12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: Mon père, donne-moi la part de bien qui doit me revenir. Et le père leur partagea son bien.
The younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of your property.' He divided his livelihood between them.
13 Peu de jours après, le plus jeune fils, ayant tout ramassé, partit pour un pays éloigné, et il y dissipa son bien en vivant dans la débauche.
Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living.
14 Après qu'il eut tout dépensé, une grande famine survint dans ce pays; et il commença à être dans l'indigence.
When he had spent all of it, there arose a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in need.
15 Alors il s'en alla et se mit au service d'un des habitants du pays, qui l'envoya dans ses champs pour paître les pourceaux.
He went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
16 Et il aurait bien voulu se rassasier des caroubes que les pourceaux mangeaient; mais personne ne lui en donnait.
And he wanted to fill himself with the carob pods that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.
17 Étant donc rentré en lui-même, il se dit: Combien de gens aux gages de mon père ont du pain en abondance, et moi, ici, je meurs de faim!
But when he came to himself he said, 'How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough to spare, and I'm dying here with hunger.
18 Je me lèverai, j'irai vers mon père, et je lui dirai: Mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et contre toi:
I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.
19 je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils: traite-moi comme l'un de tes mercenaires.
I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."'
20 Il se leva donc et alla vers son père. Comme il était encore loin, son père le vit et fut ému de compassion; et, courant à lui, il se jeta à son cou et l'embrassa.
"He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 Alors son fils lui dit: Mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et contre toi; je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils.
The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
22 Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: Apportez vite la plus belle robe, et l'en revêtez; mettez-lui un anneau au doigt et des souliers aux pieds.
"But the father said to his servants, 'Quickly, bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.
23 Amenez le veau gras, et tuez-le.
Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate;
24 Mangeons et réjouissons-nous, parce que mon fils, que voici, était mort, et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu et il est retrouvé. Puis ils commencèrent à se réjouir.
for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.' They began to celebrate.
25 Or, le fils aîné était dans les champs. Comme il revenait et qu'il approchait de la maison, il entendit la musique et les danses.
"Now his elder son was in the field. As he came near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 Il appela donc un des domestiques et lui demanda ce que c'était.
He called one of the servants to him, and asked what was going on.
27 Celui-ci lui dit: Ton frère est de retour et ton père a tué le veau gras, parce qu'il l'a retrouvé en bonne santé.
He said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and healthy.'
28 Il en fut irrité, et il ne voulait pas entrer. Son père sortit donc et le supplia d'entrer.
But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and pleaded with him.
29 Mais il répondit à son père: Voilà tant d'années que je te sers, sans avoir jamais désobéi à tes ordres, et jamais tu ne m'as donné un chevreau pour me réjouir avec mes amis.
But he answered his father, 'Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.
30 Mais quand ton fils, que voilà, qui a mangé ton bien avec des femmes de mauvaise vie, est revenu, tu as tué pour lui le veau gras!
But when this, your son, came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.'
31 Le père lui dit: Mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce que j'ai est à toi.
"He said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32 Mais il fallait bien faire un festin et se réjouir, parce que ton frère, que voilà, était mort, et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu, et il est retrouvé.
But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this brother of yours was dead and is alive; and he was lost, and is found.'"
