Luc 9
1 Ayant réuni les douze, il leur donna force et puissance sur tous, les démons et le pouvoir de guérir des maladies.
And having called together his twelve disciples, he gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to cure sicknesses,
2 Puis il les envoya en mission pour prêcher le Royaume de Dieu et faire des guérisons.
and he sent them to proclaim the reign of God, and to heal the ailing.
3 Voici ce qu'il leur dit: «N'emportez rien pour la route, ni bâton, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent, n'ayez pas même deux vêtements.
And he said unto them, 'Take nothing for the way, neither staff, nor scrip, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats each;
4 En quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y, et que, ce soit de là que vous partiez.
and into whatever house ye may enter, there remain, and thence depart;
5 Quant à ceux qui ne vous recevront pas, sortez de leur ville en secouant, en témoignage contre eux, la poussière de vos pieds.»
and as many as may not receive you, going forth from that city, even the dust from your feet shake off, for a testimony against them.'
6 Ils partirent et c'est de village en village qu'ils allaient, partout évangélisant et partout guérissant.
And going forth they were going through the several villages, proclaiming good news, and healing everywhere.
7 Le tétrarque Hérode apprit tout ce qui se passait, et il était rendu fort perplexe par ce qu'on disait de Jésus. Pour les uns, Jean était ressuscité d'entre les morts;
And Herod the tetrarch heard of all the things being done by him, and was perplexed, because it was said by certain, that John hath been raised out of the dead;
8 pour les autres, Élie était apparu; pour ceux-ci, un des anciens prophètes était revenu à la vie.
and by certain, that Elijah did appear, and by others, that a prophet, one of the ancients, was risen;
9 «J'ai fait couper la tête à Jean, disait Hérode; qui est donc cet homme dont j'entends dire de pareilles choses?» Et il était désireux de le voir.
and Herod said, 'John I did behead, but who is this concerning whom I hear such things?' and he was seeking to see him.
10 A leur retour, les apôtres racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui et il se retira à l'écart dans une ville appelée Bethsaïda. Mais les multitudes l'apprirent et le suivirent.
And the apostles having turned back, declared to him how great things they did, and having taken them, he withdrew by himself to a desert place of a city called Bethsaida,
11 Il les accueillit en leur parlant du Royaume de Dieu et en rendant la santé à ceux qui avaient besoin d'être guéris.
and the multitudes having known did follow him, and having received them, he was speaking to them concerning the reign of God, and those having need of service he cured.
12 Le jour cependant commençait à baisser, et les douze, s'approchant, lui dirent: «Congédie les foules, afin qu'elles aillent dans les villages d'alentour et dans les maisons de la campagne trouver logement et nourriture; nous sommes ici dans un désert.»
And the day began to decline, and the twelve having come near, said to him, 'Let away the multitude, that having gone to the villages and the fields round about, they may lodge and may find provision, because here we are in a desert place.'
13 Mais Jésus leur répondit: «Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger.» — Nous n'avons ici, répliquèrent-ils, que cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins que nous n'allions acheter de quoi nourrir tout ce peuple!»
And he said unto them, 'Give ye them to eat;' and they said, 'We have no more than five loaves, and two fishes: except, having gone, we may buy for all this people victuals;'
14 Or il y avait là à peu près cinq mille hommes. Jésus dit alors à ses disciples: «Faites-les asseoir par rangées de cinquante.»
for they were about five thousand men. And he said unto his disciples, 'Cause them to recline in companies, in each fifty;'
15 Ainsi firent-ils; et tout le monde s'assit.
and they did so, and made all to recline;
16 Puis Jésus, prenant les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, prononça sur eux la bénédiction, les rompit et les donna aux disciples pour qu'ils les servissent à la foule.
and having taken the five loaves, and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and was giving to the disciples to set before the multitude;
17 Tous mangèrent, tous furent rassasiés; et on emporta les morceaux qui restaient; il y en avait douze paniers.
and they did eat, and were all filled, and there was taken up what was over to them of broken pieces, twelve baskets.
18 Comme il était un jour à prier dans un lieu solitaire, les disciples le rejoignirent et il leur fit cette question: «Parmi ces foules, qui dit-on que je suis?»
And it came to pass, as he is praying alone, the disciples were with him, and he questioned them, saying, 'Who do the multitudes say me to be?'
19 Ils lui répondirent ainsi: «Jean-Baptiste; d'autres: Élie; d'autres encore: un des anciens prophètes revenu à la vie.» —
And they answering said, 'John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, that a prophet, one of the ancients, was risen;'
20 «Et vous, continua-t-il, qui dites-vous que je suis?» Pierre répondit par ces mots: «Le Christ de Dieu.»
and he said to them, 'And ye — who do ye say me to be?' and Peter answering said, 'The Christ of God.'
21 Il leur défendit avec les plus rigoureuses recommandations de le dire à personne,
And having charged them, he commanded [them] to say this to no one,
22 ajoutant qu'il lui fallait, lui, le Fils de l'homme: — beaucoup souffrir; — être rejeté par les Anciens, les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes; — être mis à mort; — ressusciter le troisième jour.»
saying — 'It behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and the third day to be raised.'
23 A tous il disait: «Si quelqu'un veut venir à ma suite, qu'il renonce à lui-même, que chaque jour il porte sa croix, et qu'il me suive.
And he said unto all, 'If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me;
24 Celui qui voudra sauver sa vie, la perdra; et il sauvera sa vie, celui qui l'aura perdue à cause de moi.
for whoever may will to save his life, shall lose it, and whoever may lose his life for my sake, he shall save it;
25 A quoi servirait-il à un homme de gagner le monde entier, si c'est en se perdant lui-même et en consommant sa ruine?
for what is a man profited, having gained the whole world, and having lost or having forfeited himself?
26 De celui qui aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte à son tour quand il viendra dans sa gloire et dans celle du Père et des saints anges.
'For whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, of this one shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when he may come in his glory, and the Father's, and the holy messengers';
27 Je vous dis la vérité: Quelques-uns sont ici présents qui ne goûteront point la mort, avant d'avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu.»
and I say to you, truly, there are certain of those here standing, who shall not taste of death till they may see the reign of God.'
28 Huit jours environ après avoir ainsi parlé, Jésus emmena avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et s'en alla prier sur la montagne.
And it came to pass, after these words, as it were eight days, that having taken Peter, and John, and James, he went up to the mountain to pray,
29 Tandis qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage changea et ses vêtements devinrent d'une blancheur resplendissante.
and it came to pass, in his praying, the appearance of his face became altered, and his garment white — sparkling.
30 Deux hommes étaient là qui s'entretenaient avec lui; c'étaient Moïse et Élie
And lo, two men were speaking together with him, who were Moses and Elijah,
31 apparaissant en grande gloire; ils parlaient de sa sortie du monde qu'il devait accomplir à Jérusalem.
who having appeared in glory, spake of his outgoing that he was about to fulfil in Jerusalem,
32 Cependant Pierre et ses compagnons avaient succombé au sommeil. C'est à leur réveil qu'ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient près de lui.
but Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep, and having waked, they saw his glory, and the two men standing with him.
33 Au moment où ceux-ci se séparaient de Jésus, Pierre lui dit: «Maître, qu'il nous est bon d'être ici! dressons trois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse, une pour Élie!» Il ne savait ce qu'il disait.
And it came to pass, in their parting from him, Peter said unto Jesus, 'Master, it is good to us to be here; and we may make three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah,' not knowing what he saith:
34 Pendant qu'il parlait, survint une nuée qui les enveloppa. Les disciples furent frappés de terreur quand ils les virent entrer dans la nuée.
and as he was speaking these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them, and they feared in their entering into the cloud,
35 Or, de cette nuée sortit une voix disant: «Celui-ci est mon Fils, l'élu, écoutez-le!»
and a voice came out of the cloud saying, 'This is My Son — the Beloved; hear ye him;'
36 Quand la voix se tut, Jésus se trouva seul. Ses disciples gardèrent le silence sur ce qu'ils avaient vu, et, à ce moment-là, n'en racontèrent rien à personne.
and when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone; and they were silent, and declared to no one in those days anything of what they have seen.
37 Lorsque le lendemain ils descendirent de la montagne, une nombreuse multitude vint à la rencontre de Jésus
And it came to pass on the next day, they having come down from the mount, there met him a great multitude,
38 et voilà que du sein de la foule un homme s'écria: «Maître, je t'en supplie, jette un regard sur mon fils; c'est mon seul enfant;
and lo, a man from the multitude cried out, saying, 'Teacher, I beseech thee, look upon my son, because he is my only begotten;
39 et il y a un Esprit qui s'empare de lui: tout à coup il lui arrache un cri, lui donne des convulsions, le fait écumer et quand il se décide à le quitter, c'est pour le laisser tout brisé.
and lo, a spirit doth take him, and suddenly he doth cry out, and it teareth him, with foaming, and it hardly departeth from him, bruising him,
40 J'ai prié tes disciples de le chasser, cela leur a été impossible.» —
and I besought thy disciples that they might cast it out, and they were not able.'
41 «Ô génération incrédule et perverse, dit Jésus en lui répondant, jusqu'à quand serai-je au milieu de vous et vous supporterai-je? Amène ici ton fils.»
And Jesus answering said, 'O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you, and suffer you? bring near hither thy son;'
42 L'enfant s'approchait, quand le démon le jeta contre terre et lui donna des convulsions. Mais Jésus, menaçant l'Esprit impur, guérit l'enfant et le rendit à son père.
and as he is yet coming near, the demon rent him, and tore [him] sore, and Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the youth, and gave him back to his father.
43 Tous furent confondus de la grandeur de Dieu. Comme tout le monde s'émerveillait de tout ce que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples:
And they were all amazed at the greatness of God, and while all are wondering at all things that Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
44 «Pour vous, mettez bien dans votre mémoire les paroles que voici: «Le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des hommes.»
'Lay ye to your ears these words, for the Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men.'
45 Les disciples ne comprirent pas ce langage; il était voilé pour eux, afin qu'ils n'en sentissent pas la portée, et c'était un sujet sur lequel ils avaient peur de l'interroger.
And they were not knowing this saying, and it was veiled from them, that they might not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
46 Entre eux une discussion s'éleva: lequel était le plus grand,
And there entered a reasoning among them, this, Who may be greater of them?
47 Jésus, qui connaissait les pensées de leur coeur, prit un enfant, le plaça près de lui,
and Jesus having seen the reasoning of their heart, having taken hold of a child, set him beside himself,
48 et leur dit: «Qui reçoit en mon nom cet enfant-là, me reçoit; et qui me reçoit, reçoit Celui qui m'a envoyé. Car celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous tous, c'est celui-là qui est grand!»
and said to them, 'Whoever may receive this child in my name, doth receive me, and whoever may receive me, doth receive Him who sent me, for he who is least among you all — he shall be great.'
49 Jean prit la parole: «Maître, dit-il, nous avons vu un homme chasser des démons en ton nom, et nous l’en avons empêché, parce qu'il ne te suit pas avec nous.» —
And John answering said, 'Master, we saw a certain one in thy name casting forth the demons, and we forbade him, because he doth not follow with us;'
50 «Ne l'en empêchez point! répondit Jésus; car celui qui n'est pas contre vous est pour vous.»
and Jesus said unto him, 'Forbid not, for he who is not against us, is for us.'
51 Cependant les jours où il devait être enlevé de ce monde approchaient et, d'un visage ferme, il partit pour Jérusalem,
And it came to pass, in the completing of the days of his being taken up, that he fixed his face to go on to Jerusalem,
52 envoyant devant lui des messagers. Ceux-ci étant entrés, en s'en allant, dans un village de la Samarie pour lui préparer un logement,
and he sent messengers before his face, and having gone on, they went into a village of Samaritans, to make ready for him,
53 on refusa de le recevoir, parce que c'était vers Jérusalem qu'il tournait ses pas.
and they did not receive him, because his face was going on to Jerusalem.
54 «Seigneur, dirent les disciples présents, Jacques et Jean, veux-tu que nous disions au feu du ciel de descendre et de réduire en cendres ces gens-là!»
And his disciples James and John having seen, said, 'Sir, wilt thou [that] we may command fire to come down from the heaven, and to consume them, as also Elijah did?'
55 Jésus se tourna vers eux et les réprimanda;
and having turned, he rebuked them, and said, 'Ye have not known of what spirit ye are;
56 et ils allèrent dans un autre village.
for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save;' and they went on to another village.
57 Pendant qu'ils étaient en chemin, quelqu'un lui dit: «Je te suivrai partout où tu iras.»
And it came to pass, as they are going on in the way, a certain one said unto him, 'I will follow thee wherever thou mayest go, sir;'
58 Jésus lui répondit: «Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids; mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête.»
and Jesus said to him, 'The foxes have holes, and the fowls of the heaven places of rest, but the Son of Man hath not where he may recline the head.'
59 A un autre il dit: «Suis-moi.» Celui-ci lui répondit: «Permets-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père; »
And he said unto another, 'Be following me;' and he said, 'Sir, permit me, having gone away, first to bury my father;'
60 mais Jésus reprit: «Laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts. Pour toi, va annoncer le Règne de Dieu.»
and Jesus said to him, 'Suffer the dead to bury their own dead, and thou, having gone away, publish the reign of God.'
61 Un autre encore lui dit: «Je te suivrai, Seigneur; mais permets-moi d'abord de prendre congé de ma famille.»
And another also said, 'I will follow thee, sir, but first permit me to take leave of those in my house;'
62 A celui-là Jésus répondit: «Quiconque en posant la main sur la charrue regarde en arrière, n'est pas propre au Royaume de Dieu.»
and Jesus said unto him, 'No one having put his hand on a plough, and looking back, is fit for the reign of God.'
