Luc 22
1 La fête des Azymes, que l'on appelle la Pâque, approchait.
The Feast of the Unleavened Bread, known as the Passover, was near.
2 Les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes cherchaient un moyen de se défaire de Jésus; car ils redoutaient le peuple.
The Chief Priest and the Teachers of the Law were looking for an opportunity of destroying Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
3 Ce fut alors que Satan entra en Judas surnommé l'Iskariôte, qui était du nombre des douze;
Now Satan took possession of Judas, who was known as Iscariot, and who belonged to the Twelve;
4 il alla s'entendre avec les chefs des prêtres et avec les chefs des gardes sur ce qu'il y avait à faire pour le leur livrer.
and he went and discussed with the Chief Priests and Officers in charge at the Temple the best way of betraying Jesus to them.
5 Pleins de joie, ils convinrent de lui donner de l'argent.
They were glad of this, and agreed to pay him.
6 Il s'engagea, et dès lors chercha une occasion de le leur livrer à l'insu de la multitude.
So Judas assented, and looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus to them, in the absence of a crowd.
7 Vint le jour de la fête où il fallait sacrifier la Pâque.
When the day of the Festival of the Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lambs had to be killed,
8 Jésus envoya Pierre et Jean en leur disant: «Allez préparer ce qui nous est nécessaire pour le repas pascal.» —
Jesus sent forward Peter and John, saying to them: “Go and make preparations for our eating the Passover.”
9 «Où veux-tu, lui dirent-ils, que nous le préparions?»
“Where do you wish us to make preparations?” they asked.
10 Il leur répondit: «En entrant dans la ville, vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau. Vous le suivrez dans la maison où il entrera;
“Listen,” he answered, “when you have got into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into whatever house he enters;
11 et voici ce que vous direz au propriétaire de cette maison: «Le maître te fait dire: Où est la chambre où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples.»
and you shall say to the owner of the house ‘The Teacher says to you — Where is the room where I am to eat the Passover with my disciples?’
12 Cet homme alors vous montrera une chambre haute, grande, garnie de tapis. C'est là que vous ferez les préparatifs.»
The man will show you a large upstairs room, set out; there make preparations.”
13 Ils partirent et trouvèrent toutes choses comme il les leur avait dites et préparèrent la Pâque.
So Peter and John went on, and found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
14 Quand vint l'heure, il se mit à table, et les apôtres avec lui.
When the time came, Jesus took his place at table, and the Apostles with him.
15 Il leur dit: «J'ai désiré — d'un grand désir — manger cette Pâque avec vous avant de souffrir.
“I have most earnestly wished,” he said, “to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
16 Je vous le déclare, en effet, je ne mangerai plus semblable Pâque, jusqu'à ce qu'elle s'accomplisse dans le Royaume de Dieu.»
For I tell you that I shall not eat it again, until it has had its fulfilment in the Kingdom of God.”
17 Tenant une coupe, il rendit grâces. «Prenez-la, dit-il, et partagez-la entre vous;
Then, on receiving a cup, after saying the thanksgiving, he said:
18 car désormais, je vous le déclare, je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne jusqu'à ce que vienne le Royaume de Dieu.»
“Take this and share it among you. For I tell you that I shall not, after to-day, drink of the juice of the grape, till the Kingdom of God has come.”
19 Prenant du pain, il rendit grâces, il le rompit et le leur donna, en disant: «Ceci est mon corps qui est donné pour vous; faites ceci en mémoire de moi.»
Then Jesus took some bread, and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke it and gave to them, with the words: “This is my body, [which is now to be given on your behalf. Do this in memory of me.”]
20 Après le repas, il prit de même la coupe, en disant: «Cette coupe est la nouvelle alliance en mon sang qui est répandu pour vous.
[And in the same way with the cup, after supper, saying: “This cup is the New Covenant made by my blood which is being poured out on your behalf. ]
21 Et voilà cependant avec moi, à cette table, la main de celui qui me livre!
Yet see! the hand of the man that is betraying me is beside me upon the table!
22 car le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon ce qui a été déterminé, mais malheur à cet homme par qui il est livré!»
True, the Son of Man is passing, by the way ordained for him, yet alas for that man by whom he is being betrayed!”
23 Ils se mirent à se demander de l'un à l'autre lequel d'entre eux devait faire cela.
Then they began questioning one another which of them it could be that was going to do this.
24 Il s'éleva aussi un débat sur celui d'entre eux qui devait être estimé le plus grand.
And a dispute arose among them as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.
25 «Les rois des nations, leur dit Jésus, en sont les dominateurs; et ceux qui exercent sur elles un pouvoir impérieux sont appelés «leurs bienfaiteurs».
Jesus, however, said: “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their oppressors are styled ‘Benefactors.’
26 Pour vous, n'agissez point ainsi: au contraire, que le plus grand d'entre vous se fasse comme le plus jeune, et que celui qui est le chef se considère comme le serviteur.
But with you it must not be so. No, let the greatest among you become like the youngest, and him who leads like him who serves.
27 Lequel passe pour le plus grand? Celui qui est à table ou celui qui sert? N'est-ce pas celui qui est à table? Moi, pourtant, je suis, au milieu de vous, comme celui qui sert.»
Which is the greater — the master at the table or his servant? Is not it the master at the table? Yet I myself am among you as one who serves.
28 «Quant à vous, vous m'êtes demeurés fidèles dans mes épreuves.»
You are the men who have stood by me in my trials;
29 «Mon Père m'a adjugé un Royaume; eh bien, moi, je vous l'adjuge à mon tour,
and, just as my Father has assigned me a Kingdom, I assign you places,
30 afin que, dans ce Royaume qui sera le mien, vous mangiez et buviez à ma table, afin aussi que vous y siégiez sur des trônes jugeant les douze tribus d'Israël.»
so that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom, and be seated upon twelve thrones as judges of the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 «Simon! Simon! voilà que Satan vous a réclamés pour vous passer tous au crible comme du froment.
Simon! Simon! listen. Satan demanded leave to sift you all like wheat,
32 Moi, cependant, j'ai prié pour toi, afin que ta foi ne défaille pas. Et toi, quand tu seras un jour changé, fortifie tes frères.» —
but I prayed for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. And you, when you have returned to me, are to strengthen your Brothers.”
33 «Avec toi, Seigneur, lui dit Pierre, je suis prêt à aller en prison, à la mort!» —
“Master,” said Peter, “with you I am ready to go both to prison and to death.”
34 «Pierre, lui répondit Jésus, je te déclare qu'aujourd'hui même un coq n'aura pas achevé de chanter que, trois fois, tu n'aies nié me connaître.»
“I tell you, Peter,” replied Jesus, “the cock will not crow to-day till you have disowned all knowledge of me three times.”
35 Il continua: «Lorsque je vous ai envoyés sans bourse, sans sac, sans chaussures, vous a-t-il manqué quelque chose?» — «Rien, répondirent-ils.» —
Then he said to them all: “When I sent you out as my Messengers, without either purse, or bag, or sandals, were you in need of anything?” “No; nothing,” they answered.
36 «Mais à présent, leur dit-il, que celui qui a une bourse la prenne; et un sac, de même; que celui qui n'a pas d'épée vende son manteau pour en acheter une;
“Now, however,” he said, “he who has a purse must take it and his bag as well; and he who has not must sell his cloak and buy a sword.
37 car, je vous le déclare, il faut que cette parole de l'Écriture s'accomplisse en mois: «... Et il a été compté parmi les impies.» «En effet, ce qui me concerne tire à sa fin.» —
For, I tell you, that passage of Scripture must be fulfilled in me, which says — ‘He was counted among the godless’; indeed all that refers to me is finding its fulfilment.”
38 «Seigneur, dirent-ils, voici deux épées.» — «Cela suffit, » leur répondit Jésus.
“Master,” they exclaimed, “look, here are two swords!” “Enough!” said Jesus.
39 Il sortit, et, selon sa coutume, il se dirigea vers le mont des Oliviers. Les disciples le suivirent.
Jesus then went out, and made his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, followed by his disciples.
40 Arrivé en ce lieu, il leur dit: «Priez pour ne pas succomber à l'épreuve.»
And, when he reached the spot, he said to them: “Pray that you may not fall into temptation.”
41 Il s'éloigna d'eux, à la distance d'un jet de pierre environ; il se mit à genoux, et voici ce qu'il disait dans sa prière:
Then he withdrew about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and began to pray.
42 «Père, si tu voulais écarter loin de moi cette coupe! toutefois que ce ne soit pas ma volonté qui se fasse, mais la tienne.»
“Father,” he said, “if it is thy pleasure, spare me this cup; only, not my will but thine be done.”
43 Alors il lui apparut un ange venu du ciel, qui le fortifia.
Presently there appeared to him an angel from Heaven, who strengthened him.
44 Étant en agonie, plus ardente était sa prière. Sa sueur était comme de grosses gouttes de sang et tombait jusqu'à terre.
And, as his anguish became intense, he prayed still more earnestly, while his sweat was like great drops of blood falling on the ground.
45 Après avoir prié, il se releva et vint à ses disciples. Il les trouva qui s'étaient endormis dans l'accablement de leur douleur.
Then he rose from praying, and came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow.
46 «Pourquoi dormez-vous, leur dit-il, levez-vous, priez pour ne pas succomber à l'épreuve.»
“Why are you asleep?” he asked them. “Rise and pray, that you may not fall into temptation.”
47 Il parlait encore, lorsqu'arriva toute une foule, en avant de laquelle marchait le nommé Judas, un des douze. Il s'approcha de Jésus pour lui donner un baiser.
While he was still speaking, a crowd appeared in sight, led by the man called Judas, who was one of the Twelve. Judas approached Jesus, to kiss him;
48 «Judas! lui dit Jésus, c'est par un baiser que tu livres le Fils de l'homme!»
on which Jesus said to him: “Judas, is it by a kiss that you betray the Son of Man?”
49 Voyant ce qui allait se passer, ceux qui entouraient Jésus lui dirent: «Seigneur, si nous frappions de l'épée?»
But when those who were round Jesus saw what was going to happen, they exclaimed: “Master, shall we use our swords?”
50 Et l'un d'entre eux frappa le serviteur du grand-prêtre et lui coupa l'oreille droite.
And one of them struck the High Priest’s servant and cut off his right ear;
51 Mais Jésus prit la parole: «Restez-en là!» dit-il, et touchant l'oreille de l'homme blessé, il le guérit.
on which Jesus said: “Let me at least do this”; and, touching his ear, he healed the wound.
52 Jésus dit ensuite à ceux qui étaient venus à lui, chefs des prêtres, chefs des gardes du Temple et Anciens: «Vous êtes venus comme contre un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons.
Then, turning to the Chief Priests and Officers in charge at the Temple and Councillors, who had come for him, he said: “Have you come out, as if after a robber, with swords and clubs?
53 Tous les jours j'étais avec vous dans le Temple, et vous n'avez pas mis la main sur moi. Mais cette heure-ci est vôtre, cette heure où les ténèbres règnent.»
When I was with you day after day in the Temple Courts, you did not lay hands on me; but now your time has come, and the power of Darkness.”
54 Ils s'emparèrent de lui, l'emmenèrent et le conduisirent à la demeure du grand-prêtre. Pierre suivait de loin.
Those who had taken Jesus prisoner took him away into the house of the High Priest. Peter followed at a distance.
55 Au milieu de la cour ils allumèrent du feu, ils s'assirent tout autour, et Pierre aussi s'assit parmi eux.
But, when they had lit a fire in the centre of the court-yard and had all sat down there, Peter seated himself in the middle of them.
56 Une servante le vit assis à la clarté du foyer, et, le regardant attentivement elle lui dit: «Et celui-là, il était avec lui!»
Presently a maidservant saw him sitting near the blaze of the fire. Fixing her eyes on him, she said: “Why, this man was one of his companions!”
57 Et Pierre, reniant Jésus, dit à cette femme: «Je ne le connais pas.»
But Peter denied it. “I do not know him,” he replied.
58 Un instant après, un autre dit en le voyant: «Toi aussi, tu en es!» — «Non, je n'en suis pas», dit Pierre à cet homme.
A little while afterwards some one else — a man — saw him and said: “Why, you are one of them!” “No,” Peter said, “I am not.”
59 Après un intervalle d'une heure environ, un autre devint tout à fait affirmatif: «Il est certain, dit-il, que celui-ci était avec lui, car c'est également un Galiléen.»
About an hour later another man declared positively: “This man also was certainly with him. Why, he is a Galilean!”
60 Mais Pierre dit à cet homme: «Je ne comprends pas ce que tu dis. A l'instant même, pendant qu'il parlait encore, un coq chanta.
But Peter said: “I do not know what you are speaking about.” Instantly, while he was still speaking, a cock crowed.
61 Le Seigneur se retourna et regarda Pierre. Alors Pierre se souvint de la parole du Seigneur; il se rappela comment il lui avait dit: «Avant qu'un coq chante aujourd'hui, tu me renieras, trois fois.»
And the Master turned and looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the words that the Master had said to him — “Before a cock has crowed to-day, you will disown me three times”;
62 Il sortit, et, dehors, il pleura amèrement.
and he went outside and wept bitterly.
63 Ceux qui gardaient Jésus se faisaient un jeu de lui donner des coups;
The men that held Jesus kept making sport of him and beating him.
64 ils lui avaient couvert le visage d'un voile et puis ils l'interrogeaient: «Fais le prophète! quel est celui qui t'a frappé?»
They blindfolded him and then questioned him. “Now play the Prophet,” they said; “who was it that struck you?”
65 et ils proféraient beaucoup d'autres injures contre lui.
And they heaped many other insults on him.
66 Quand il fit jour, s'assembla le corps des Anciens du peuple avec des chefs des prêtres et des Scribes. Ils firent comparaître Jésus par devant leur Sanhédrin et lui parlèrent ainsi: «Si tu es le Christ, dis-le-nous.»
At daybreak the National Council met — both the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law — and took Jesus before their High Council.
67 Il leur répondit: «Quand même je vous le dirais, vous ne me croiriez pas.
“If you are the Christ,” they said, “tell us so.” “If I tell you,” replied Jesus, “you will not believe me;
68 Et si je vous interrogeais, vous ne me répondriez pas.
and, if I question you, you will not answer.
69 A partir de maintenant le Fils de l'homme siégera à la droite de la puissance de Dieu.»
But from this hour ‘the Son of Man will be seated on the right hand of God Almighty.’”
70 Ils dirent tous: «C'est donc toi qui es le Fils de Dieu?» — «Vous dites vous-mêmes que je le suis», leur répondit Jésus. —
“Are you, then, the Son of God?” they all asked. “It is true,” answered Jesus, “I am.”
71 «Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoignage, dirent-ils; le témoignage, nous venons nous-mêmes de l'entendre de sa propre bouche.»
At this they exclaimed: “Why do we want any more evidence? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips!”
