Proverbes 4
1 Ecoutez, mes fils, la leçon d'un père, et soyez attentifs, pour apprendre la sagesse!
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 Car je vous donne une doctrine excellente; n'abandonnez pas mes préceptes!
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 Car je fus un fils pour mon père, tendre et unique enfant sous les yeux de ma mère.
For I was my father’s son, tender and only [beloved] in the sight of my mother.
4 Et il m'instruisit et me dit: Que ton cœur retienne fermement mes paroles, observe mes préceptes, et tu auras la vie!
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la prudence, ne l'oublie pas, et ne t'écarte pas des paroles de ma bouche!
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; aime-la; et elle te protégera.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Voici le commencement de la sagesse « Acquiers la sagesse, et au prix de tout ton bien acquiers la prudence. »
Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Exalte-la, et elle l'élèvera; elle t'honorera, si tu l'embrasses;
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 elle posera sur ta tête une couronne gracieuse, et te présentera un brillant diadème.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10 Ecoute, mon fils, et accueille mon discours, et pour toi les années de vie se multiplieront.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 C'est la voie de la sagesse que je te montre, et je te conduis au droit sentier.
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12 Si tu marches, tes pas ne seront pas gênés; et si tu cours, tu ne trébucheras point.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Tiens ferme l'instruction, ne t'en dessaisis point; garde-la, car elle est ta vie!
Take fast hold of instruction; let [her] not go: keep her; for she [is] thy life.
14 Ne t'engage pas dans la route des impies, et ne t'avance pas sur la voie des méchants!
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men].
15 Quitte-la, n'y passe pas; fuis-la et passe outre!
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 Car ils ne sauraient dormir, s'ils n'ont fait le mal, et le sommeil se dérobe à eux, s'ils n'ont causé des chutes.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause [some] to fall.
17 Oui, l'impiété est le pain qu'ils prennent, et l'iniquité, le vin qu'ils boivent.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 Mais la voie des justes est comme l'éclat du soleil, dont la lumière croît jusqu'au plus haut point du jour.
But the path of the just [is] as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 La voie des impies est comme les ténèbres; ils ne savent où ils iront heurter.
The way of the wicked [is] as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20 Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, et prête l'oreille à mes discours!
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Ne les perds pas de vue; garde-les dans le fond de ton cœur!
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 Car ils sont une vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, et un remède pour leur corps tout entier,
For they [are] life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Plus que tout ce qui se garde, garde ton cœur! car de lui jaillissent les sources de la vie.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.
24 Eloigne de ta bouche la fausseté, et de tes lèvres les détours!
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Que tes yeux regardent en avant, et que tes paupières dirigent ta vue devant toi!
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Examine le chemin où tu mets le pied, et que toutes tes voies soient fermes;
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 ne fléchis ni à droite, ni à gauche, et retiens ton pied loin du mal!
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
