Proverbes 14
1 Sage, une femme élève sa maison; insensée, de ses propres mains elle la démolit.
Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.
2 L'homme qui marche dans la droiture, craint l'Éternel; mais, si ses voies se détournent, il Le méprise.
He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.
3 L'insensé a dans sa bouche même la verge de son orgueil; mais par leurs lèvres les sages sont garantis.
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 Où il n'y a pas de bœufs, le grenier est vide; mais la vigueur du taureau donne un gros revenu.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 Le témoin véridique ne ment point; mais le faux témoin profère le mensonge.
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
6 Le moqueur cherche la sagesse sans la trouver; mais pour l'intelligent la science est chose facile.
A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy to him that understands.
7 Va te placer en face de l'insensé; tu ne pourras découvrir la sagesse sur ses lèvres.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you perceive not in him the lips of knowledge.
8 La sagesse du prudent, c'est de faire attention à sa voie; mais la folie des insensés est une duperie.
The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
9 Les insensés se font un jeu du crime; mais parmi les hommes de bien il y a bienveillance.
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor.
10 Le cœur connaît son propre chagrin; et autrui ne saurait entrer en part de sa joie.
The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.
11 La maison des impies est détruite, et la tente des gens de bien, florissante.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
12 Telle voie paraît droite à l'homme, mais elle aboutit au chemin de la mort.
There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
13 L'on peut, quand on rit, avoir le chagrin dans le cœur; et la joie peut finir en tristesse.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
14 Des fruits de sa conduite il sera rassasié celui dont le cœur s'égare, et l'homme de bien, de ce qui lui revient.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
15 L'inconsidéré ajoute foi à toute parole; le prudent est attentif à ses pas.
The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his going.
16 Le sage est timide, et fuit le mal; mais l'insensé est présomptueux, et plein de sécurité.
A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.
17 L'homme prompt à s'irriter agit follement; mais l'homme d'intrigue se fait haïr.
He that is soon angry deals foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
18 Les insensés sont en possession de la folie; mais les justes ont pour couronne la science.
The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 Les méchants s'inclinent devant les bons, et les impies, à la porte du juste.
The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 A son prochain même le pauvre est odieux; mais ceux qui aiment le riche, sont nombreux.
The poor is hated even of his own neighbor: but the rich has many friends.
21 Qui méprise son prochain, pèche: mais heureux qui a pitié des misérables!
He that despises his neighbor sins: but he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
22 Ceux qui font le mal, ne se fourvoient-ils pas? Mais ceux qui font le bien, trouvent amour et confiance.
Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
23 Tout labeur donne abondance; mais les discours des lèvres ne mènent qu'à l'indigence.
In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tends only to penury.
24 La couronne des sages est leur richesse; la folie des insensés, c'est la folie.
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
25 Le témoin véridique est le libérateur des âmes; mais celui qui trompe, souffle le mensonge.
A true witness delivers souls: but a deceitful witness speaks lies.
26 La crainte de l'Éternel donne une confiance ferme; et pour Ses enfants Il sera un refuge.
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 La crainte de l'Éternel est une source de vie, pour échapper aux lacs de la mort.
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
28 Un peuple nombreux donne au roi sa splendeur; mais le manque d'hommes est la ruine du prince.
In the multitude of people is the king’s honor: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
29 L'homme lent à s'irriter a un grand sens; l'irascible met en vue sa folie.
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.
30 Un cœur sain est la vie du corps; mais l'envie est la carie des os.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 Qui opprime les petits, outrage son créateur; mais celui-là l'honore, qui prend pitié des pauvres.
He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.
32 Par ses revers l'impie est renversé; mais dans la mort même le juste est plein d'assurance.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.
33 Dans le cœur sensé la sagesse repose; mais au milieu des fous elle se manifeste.
Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: but that which is in the middle of fools is made known.
34 La justice élève une nation, mais le péché est l'opprobre des peuples.
Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
35 Le roi donne sa faveur au serviteur entendu, mais au méchant serviteur son courroux.
The king’s favor is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causes shame.
