Proverbes 11
1 La balance fausse est l'abomination de l'Éternel; mais le poids juste lui est agréable.
A false balance [is] abomination to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.
2 Quand vient l'orgueil, vient aussi l'ignominie; mais dans les humbles il y a sagesse.
[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.
3 L'intégrité des hommes droits les guide; mais les détours des perfides les perdent.
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
4 La richesse ne sert de rien au jour de la colère; mais la justice sauve de la mort.
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
5 La justice de l'homme de bien aplanit sa voie; mais par sa méchanceté le méchant tombera.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
6 La justice des hommes droits les sauve; mais les méchants se prennent dans leur méchanceté.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in [their own] naughtiness.
7 A la mort du méchant son espoir s'évanouit, et l'attente des impies s'évanouit.
When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust [men] perisheth.
8 Le juste est sauvé de la détresse, et l'impie vient l'y remplacer.
The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
9 Par ses discours le profane perd son prochain, mais par la sagesse des justes il est sauvé.
An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
10 La ville se réjouit du bonheur du juste; et quand les méchants périssent, c'est chant de joie.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, [there is] shouting.
11 La bénédiction du juste élève une cité, mais les propos des impies causent sa décadence.
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12 Qui parle avec mépris de son prochain, manque de sens; mais l'homme qui a la prudence, se tait.
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
13 Qui va calomniant, dévoile les secrets; mais l'homme sûr tient la chose cachée.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
14 Faute de directions un peuple tombe; mais il y a salut où les conseillers sont en nombre.
Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.
15 Mal en arrive à qui cautionne autrui; mais quand on hait ceux qui s'engagent de la main, on est en sûreté.
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart [for it: ] and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
16 La femme qui a la grâce, est en possession de l'honneur, comme ceux qui ont la force, le sont des richesses.
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong [men] retain riches.
17 Celui qui en use bien avec lui-même, a de la bonté; mais celui qui se maltraite, est impitoyable.
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth his own flesh.
18 L'impie fait un gain qui le trompe; et celui qui sème la justice, un gain assuré.
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness [shall be] a sure reward.
19 L'homme ferme en la justice parvient à la vie; et celui qui poursuit le mal, à la mort.
As righteousness [tendeth] to life: so he that pursueth evil [pursueth it] to his own death.
20 L'Éternel abhorre les hommes pervertis en leur cœur; Il a pour agréables ceux qui suivent le droit chemin.
They that are of a froward heart [are] abomination to the LORD: but [such as are] upright in [their] way [are] his delight.
21 Qu'ils se donnent la main, les méchants ne seront point impunis; mais la race des justes est sauvée.
[Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22 Un anneau d'or au groin d'un pourceau, c'est dans une femme beauté et déraison.
[As] a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.
23 Le souhait du juste n'a pour fin que le bien; mais la perspective des méchants, c'est la peine.
The desire of the righteous [is] only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked [is] wrath.
24 Il en est qui répandent, et reçoivent plus encore; il en est qui épargnent plus qu'il n'est juste, et c'est pour s'appauvrir.
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty.
25 Une âme bienfaisante obtiendra l'abondance, et celui qui restaure, sera restauré.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
26 Qui garde son blé, par le peuple est maudit; mais la bénédiction est sur la tête de celui qui le vend.
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing [shall be] upon the head of him that selleth [it].
27 Qui s'applique au bien, cherche la bienveillance; mais le mal survient à qui cherche le mal.
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
28 Qui s'appuie sur sa richesse, tombera; mais comme le feuillage les justes verdiront.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
29 Celui qui met le désordre dans sa maison, n'hérite que du vent, et l'insensé devient le serviteur du sage.
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool [shall be] servant to the wise of heart.
30 Le fruit du juste est un fruit de l'arbre de vie, et le sage captive les cœurs.
The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth souls [is] wise.
31 Vois! sur la terre le juste reçoit son salaire; combien plus le méchant et le pécheur!
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
