Luc 11
1 Et il advint, pendant qu'il était lui-même en prière en quelque endroit, que, lorsqu'il eut fini, l'un de ses disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, comme Jean aussi l'a enseigné à ses disciples. »
It happened he was praying in a certain place, and when he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, "Master, teach us how to pray, just as Johntaught his disciples."
2 Or il leur dit: « Quand vous priez, dites: « Père, que Ton nom soit sanctifié; que Ton royaume vienne;
So he said to them. "When you pray, say, "Father, hallowed be thy name; May thy kingdom come,
3 donne-nous chaque jour le pain de notre subsistance,
"Give us day by day our bread for the coming day;
4 et remets-nous nos péchés, car nous aussi nous remettons à tous ceux qui nous doivent; et ne nous expose pas à la tentation. »
"Forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone who has offended us; "And bring us not into temptation."
5 Et il leur dit: « Lequel de vous, ayant un ami et s'étant rendu auprès de lui sur le minuit pour lui dire: « Ami, prête-moi trois pains,
He also said to them. "Suppose you have a friend and you go to him, ‘My friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
6 parce qu'un mien ami venant de voyage est arrivé chez moi, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir;
"for a friend of mine is come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him.’
7 et l'autre lui ayant répondu de l'intérieur: « Ne me dérange pas, ma porte est déjà fermée, et mes petits enfants sont au lit avec moi, je ne puis pas me lever pour t'en donner… »
"and he from indoors shall answer. ‘Do not pester me. The door is now closed, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot rise and give to you.’
8 Je vous déclare que, quoiqu'il ne se lève pas pour lui en donner comme étant son ami, du moins à cause de son indiscrétion il se lèvera pour lui en donner autant qu'il en demande.
"I tell you that, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunate persistence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.
9 Eh bien, moi je vous dis, demandez et on vous donnera; cherchez et vous trouverez; heurtez et on vous ouvrira;
"So I say to you. "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.
10 car quiconque demande reçoit, et qui cherche trouve, et à celui qui heurte, on ouvre.
"For he that asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks the door shall be opened.
11 Quel est parmi vous le père auquel son fils demandera un poisson, et qui, à la place d'un poisson, lui donnera un serpent?
"What father is there among you who, if his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will give him instead a serpent?
12 Ou encore, qui, s'il lui demande un œuf, lui donnera un scorpion?
"Or if he asks for an egg, will offer him a scorpion?
13 Si donc vous, tout méchants que vous êtes, savez donner de bons présents à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison le Père céleste donnera-t-Il l'Esprit saint à ceux qui le Lui demandent? »
"If you give good gifts to your children, how much more shall the Father who is in heaven give the Holy spirit to those that ask him!"
14 Et il chassait un démon muet; or il advint, lorsque le démon fut sorti, que le muet parla; et la foule fut émerveillée.
Once he was casting out a dumb demon, and when the demon was gone out, the dumb man spoke, and the people wondered.
15 Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux dirent: « C'est grâce à Béézéboul, le chef des démons, qu'il chasse les démons. »
But some of them said, "It is by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that he cast out demons."
16 Mais d'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, lui demandaient un signe qui vînt du ciel.
Others, tempting him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven.
17 Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: « Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté, et on y voit tomber maison sur maison;
He knew their intentions and said to them. "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste and house falls upon house.
18 or si Satan aussi s'est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? Car vous dites que c'est grâce à Béézéboul que je chasse les démons;
"And if Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand?
19 mais si moi c'est grâce à Béézéboul que je chasse les démons, vos fils, grâce à qui les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ce sont eux qui seront vos juges.
"Do you say that I am casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub? If I then am casting out demons by Beelzebub, by whom are your sons casting them out? They therefore shall be your judges.
20 Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que moi je chasse les démons, le royaume de Dieu est donc parvenu jusqu'à vous.
"But if it is by the finger of God that I am casting out demons, then the kingdom of God is come upon you.
21 Lorsque l'homme fort, bien armé, garde sa propre cour, ce qu'il possède est en sûreté;
"When the strong man fully aroused keeps guard over his homestead, his property is undisturbed;
22 mais s'il arrive qu'un plus fort que lui survienne et le vainque, il s'empare de toutes les armes auxquelles il se confiait, et il distribue ses dépouilles.
"but when the stronger man attacks him, he takes away from the strong armor in which he was trusting and divides up the spoil.
23 Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et celui qui ne rassemble pas avec moi disperse.
"He who is not for me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me is scattering.
24 Quand l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il parcourt les lieux arides, cherchant du repos, et n'en trouvant pas, il dit alors: « Je retournerai dans ma maison, d'où je suis sorti. »
"Whenever a foul spirit is gone out of a man, it roams through waterless places, in search of rest; but when it can find none, it says, ‘I will go back to the house which I have left.’
25 Et y revenant, il la trouve en paix, balayée et ornée.
When it comes and finds the house completely swept and garnished.
26 Alors il va et prend sept autres esprits plus méchants que lui-même, et après être entrés, ils y habitent; et la nouvelle condition de cet homme devient pire que la première. »
"Then it goes off and fetches seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first."
27 Or il advint, pendant qu'il disait ces choses, qu'une femme, élevant sa voix du milieu de la foule, lui dit: « Heureux le sein qui t'a porté et les mamelles qui t'ont allaité! »
It happened while he was saying this, that a certain woman out of the crowd shouted to him, saying, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breast that you have sucked."
28 Mais il dit: « Heureux bien plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui l'observent! »
"No, rather," he answered, "blessed are those who listen to the word of God, and keep it."
29 Or comme la foule grossissait, il se mit à dire: « Cette génération est méchante; elle réclame un signe, et il ne lui sera donné d'autre signe que le signe de Jonas;
When the crowd were beginning to throng about him he proceeded to say. "This is an evil generation! It seeks a sign, and there shall be no sign be given to it except the sign of Jonah;
30 car, de même que Jonas fut un signe pour les Ninévites, de même le fils de l'homme en sera aussi un pour cette génération.
"for as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so shall the Son of man be to this generation.
31 La reine du Midi ressuscitera lors du jugement avec les hommes de cette génération, et elle les condamnera; car elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon, et voici, il y a ici plus que Salomon.
"The queen of the South shall rise up in Judgement with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them; because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, one greater than Solomon is here!
32 Les hommes de Ninive ressusciteront lors du jugement avec cette génération, et ils la condamneront; car ils se sont repentis à la prédication de Jonas, et voici, il y a ici plus que Jonas,
"The men of the Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with his generation and shall condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and lo! one greater than Jonah is here!
33 Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la place dans un souterrain, ni sous le boisseau, mais sur son support, afin que ceux qui entrent en voient la lumière.
"When one lights a lamp he does not put it in a cellar nor under the bushel, but on a lamp-stand that those who enter may see the light.
34 Ton œil est la lampe du corps; quand ton œil est sain, tout ton corps aussi est illuminé, mais quand il est malade, ton corps aussi est ténébreux.
"The lamp of the body is your eye; when your eye is single then your whole body is full of light; but when it is evil your whole body is full of darkness.
35 Prends donc garde que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit ténèbres.
"Look carefully! Perhaps that very light of yours is darkness.
36 Si donc tout ton corps est illuminé, n'ayant rien de ténébreux, il sera entièrement illuminé, comme lorsque la lampe t'éclaire par son rayonnement. »
"If, however, your whole body is full of light, without having any part dark, it will be wholly radiant with light, as when the lamp illumines you with its bright rays."
37 Or, pendant qu'il parlait, un pharisien le sollicite de faire collation chez lui; et y étant entré il se mit à table.
When he had finished speaking a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in with him and reclined.
38 Ce que le pharisien ayant vu, il fut étonné de ce qu'il ne s'était pas d'abord lavé avant la collation.
And the Pharisee noticed, to his amazement, that he did not wash his hands before eating,
39 Mais le seigneur lui dit: « Maintenant vous autres pharisiens vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat, mais votre dedans est rempli de rapine et de méchanceté.
but the Lord said to him. "You Pharisee do cleanse the outside of your cup or plate, but your secret heart is full of extortion and wickedness.
40 Insensés! Est-ce que Celui qui a fait le dehors n'a pas fait aussi le dedans?
"Foolish men! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?
41 Eh bien, donnez-en le contenu en aumônes, et voici, tout est net pour vous.
"Better cleanse what is within, and nothing will be unclean for you.
42 Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens, car vous payez la dîme de la menthe, et de la rue, et de toutes les plantes potagères, et vous méprisez le jugement et l'amour de Dieu. Mais ce sont ces choses-ci qu'il fallait pratiquer, sans toutefois négliger celles-là.
"But woe unto you Pharisee! for you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and disregard justice and the love of God; but these you ought to have done, and not leave the other undone.
43 Malheur à vous, pharisiens, car vous aimez le premier siège dans les synagogues et les salutations dans les places publiques.
"Woe unto you Pharisee! for you delight in the best seats in the synagogue, and in the salutation in the market-places.
44 Malheur à vous, car vous êtes comme les sépulcres masqués, et les hommes en marchant dessus ne s'en doutent pas. »
"Woe unto you! for you are like the tombs which are hidden, and men walk over them unsuspecting."
45 Or un des légistes prenant la parole, lui dit: « Maître, en parlant de la sorte tu nous insultes aussi. »
Hereupon one of the lawyers exclaimed, "But teacher, in saying such things you are also reproaching us also."
46 Mais il dit: « Malheur aussi à vous autres légistes, car vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux intolérables, et vous-mêmes vous ne touchez pas ces fardeaux d'un seul de vos doigts.
"Woe unto you lawyers also!" said Jesus, "for you load men with irksome burdens, and you yourselves will not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
47 Malheur à vous, car vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, et ce sont vos pères qui les ont fait mourir!
"Woe to you! for you are building the tombs of the prophets whom you ancestors killed.
48 Vous donnez donc votre témoignage et votre approbation aux œuvres de vos pères, car, tandis que de leur côté ils les ont fait mourir, du vôtre vous bâtissez!
"So you are witnesses, and you consent to the actions of your ancestors. for they killed them, and you build their tombs.
49 C'est pourquoi aussi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, dont ils tueront les uns et poursuivront les autres,
"For this reason also said the Wisdom of God. ‘I will send them prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and some they will persecute;
50 afin qu'on redemande compte à cette génération du sang de tous les prophètes, versé dès la fondation du monde,
"so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required from this generation,
51 depuis le sang d'Abel jusques au sang de Zacharie qui fut mis à mort entre l'autel et la maison. Oui, je vous le déclare, on en demandera compte à cette génération.
"from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the alter and the sanctuary; yes; I tell you, it shall be required of this generation!
52 Malheur à vous légistes, car vous avez enlevé la clef de la connaissance; vous-mêmes n'êtes pas entrés et vous avez empêché ceux qui voulaient entrer. »
"Woe to you lawyers, for you have taken away the key of knowledge!’ You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who are trying to enter."
53 Et après qu'il fut sorti de là, les scribes et les pharisiens se mirent à l'obséder d'une manière terrible, et à le presser de questions,
After he had gone away, the Scribes and the Pharisee began to set themselves vehemently against him, and to cross-question him upon many points,
54 en lui dressant des pièges, pour attraper quelque parole sortie de sa bouche.
laying in wait for him, in order to catch a word from his lips.
