Juges 4
1 Et les enfants d'Israël recommencèrent à faire ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel; or Ehud était mort.
And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.
2 Alors l'Éternel les vendit entre les mains de Jabin, roi de Canaan, qui régnait à Hatsor, et son chef d'armée était Sisera, lequel demeurait à Haroseth-Gojim.
And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host [was] Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
3 Et les enfants d'Israël crièrent vers l'Éternel, car il avait neuf cents chars ferrés, et il opprima fortement les enfants d'Israël durant vingt ans.
And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
4 Or c'était Debora, femme prophète, mariée à Lappidoth, qui à cette époque était juge en Israël.
And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
5 Et elle siégeait sous le Palmier de Debora entre Rama et Béthel dans la montagne d'Ephraïm. Et les enfants d'Israël montaient auprès d'elle pour obtenir jugement.
And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6 Alors elle envoya mander Barak, fils d'Abinoam, de Kédès-Nephthali; et elle lui dit: Voici, l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, l'ordonne; va occuper le mont Thabor, prenant avec toi dix mille hommes parmi les enfants de Nephthali et les enfants de Zabulon,
And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, [saying], Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7 et j'attirerai vers toi au torrent du Kison, Sisera, chef d'armée de Jabin, et ses chars et sa troupe et je le livrerai entre tes mains.
And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
8 Et Barak lui dit: Si tu marches avec moi, je marcherai; mais si tu ne marches pas avec moi, je ne marcherai pas.
And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, [then] I will not go.
9 Et elle dit: Oui, je veux marcher avec toi; seulement tu ne rencontreras pas ta gloire sur la voie que tu prends, car c'est à la main d'une femme que l'Éternel livrera Sisera. Puis Debora se leva et se rendit avec Barak à Kédès.
And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 Alors Barak cita Zabulon et Nephthali à Kédès, et dix mille hommes marchèrent sous sa conduite, et Debora l'accompagna.
And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11 (Or Héber, le Kénite, s'était séparé des Kénites, des fils de Hobab, beau-père de Moïse, et il dressa ses tentes jusqu'aux chênes de Tsaannaïm, situé près de Kédès.)
Now Heber the Kenite, [which was] of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which [is] by Kedesh.
12 Et Sisera fut informé que Barak, fils d'Abinoam, s'était porté au mont Thabor.
And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13 Alors de Haroseth-Gojim Sisera rassembla vers le torrent du Kison tous ses chars, neuf cents chars ferrés et toute la troupe qui était sous ses ordres.
And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, [even] nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that [were] with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14 Alors Debora dit à Barak: Debout! car, voici la journée où l'Éternel livre Sisera entre tes mains! L'Éternel n'ouvre-t-Il pas la marche devant toi? Et Barak descendit du mont Thabor suivi de dix mille hommes.
And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this [is] the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 Alors l'Éternel mit en déroute Sisera et tous ses chars et toute son armée à la pointe de l'épée devant Barak, et Sisera descendit de son char et s'enfuit à pied.
And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all [his] chariots, and all [his] host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off [his] chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16 Cependant Barak poursuivit les chars et l'armée jusqu'à Haroseth-Gojim. Et toute l'armée de Sisera tomba sous le tranchant de l'épée; pas un ne survécut.
But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; [and] there was not a man left.
17 Quant à Sisera, il se réfugia à pied dans la tente de Jaël, femme de Héber, le Kénite. Car il y avait paix entre Jabin, roi de Hatsor, et la maison de Héber, le Kénite.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for [there was] peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18 Alors Jaël sortit au-devant de Sisera et lui dit: Entre, mon Seigneur, entre chez moi! sois sans crainte! Et il entra chez elle dans la tente, et elle le couvrit d'un tapis.
And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19 Et il lui dit: Donne-moi donc un peu d'eau à boire, car j'ai soif. Et elle ouvrit l'outre du lait, et le fit boire et le couvrit.
And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20 Et il lui dit: Tiens-toi à l'entrée de la tente, et dans le cas où un homme viendrait et te questionnerait en disant: Y a-t-il quelqu'un ici? réponds: Personne.
Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.
21 Alors Jaël, femme de Héber, prit l'épieu de la tente, et arma sa main du marteau et pénétra doucement vers lui et lui enfonça dans la tempe l'épieu qui se ficha dans le sol. Or il était profondément endormi et exténué, et il mourut.
Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
22 Et voici, Barak était à la poursuite de Sisera, et Jaël sortit à sa rencontre et lui dit: Viens! je vais te montrer l'homme que tu cherches. Et il entra chez elle, et voilà que Sisera était étendu mort, l'épieu dans la tempe.
And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her [tent], behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail [was] in his temples.
23 C'est ainsi que ce jour Dieu fit fléchir Jabin, roi de Canaan, devant les enfants d'Israël.
So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24 Et la main des enfants d'Israël s'appesantit de plus en plus sur Jabin, roi de Canaan, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent extirpé Jabin, roi de Canaan.
And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
