Josué 11

1 Et lorsque Jabin, Roi de Hatsor, apprit ces faits, il envoya requérir Jobab, Roi de Madon, et le Roi de Simron, et le Roi de Achsaph,

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard [those things], that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

2 et les Rois qui étaient au nord dans la montagne et dans la plaine au sud de Kinnéroth, et dans le Pays-bas et sur la hauteur de Dor à l'occident;

And to the kings that [were] on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,

3 les Cananéens de l'orient et de l'occident, et les Amoréens et les Héthiens et les Périzzites, et les Jébusites sur la montagne et les Hévites au pied de l'Hermon dans la contrée de Mitspa.

[And to] the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and [to] the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and [to] the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

4 Et ils se mirent en campagne, eux et toutes leurs armées avec eux, troupe considérable, égale en nombre aux grains de sable des bords de la mer, ayant de la cavalerie et des chars en quantité très grande.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that [is] upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

5 Et après être convenus du rendez-vous, tous ces Rois vinrent camper ensemble près des eaux de Mérom pour en venir aux mains avec Israël.

And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

6 Mais l'Éternel dit à Josué: N'aie pas peur d'eux, car demain, à pareil moment, moi-même je les livrerai tous défaits à Israël; tu couperas le tendon à leurs chevaux, et tu brûleras au feu leurs chars.

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7 Alors Josué avec toute sa troupe guerrière fondit sur eux à l'improviste près des eaux de Mérom, et les assaillit.

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

8 Et l'Éternel les livra entre les mains des Israélites qui les battirent et les poursuivirent jusqu'à Sidon, la grande, et jusqu'aux Eaux-brûlantes, et jusqu'à la vallée de Mitspeh vers l'orient, et ils les défirent à ne leur pas laisser un réchappé.

And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

9 Et Josué les traita conformément à ce que lui avait dit l'Éternel; il coupa le tendon à leurs chevaux et brûla leurs chars au feu.

And Joshua did unto them as the LORD bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 Et dans ce même temps Josué revint sur ses pas, et il s'empara de Hatsor dont il fit périr le Roi par l'épée; car dès longtemps Hatsor était le chef-lieu de tous ces royaumes;

And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

11 et ils frappèrent avec le tranchant de l'épée toutes les personnes qui s'y trouvaient, après les avoir dévouées; il ne survécut rien de ce qui respirait, et il brûla Hatsor au feu.

And they smote all the souls that [were] therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying [them: ] there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

12 Et Josué s'empara de toutes les villes de ces Rois et de tous leurs Rois qu'il passa au fil de l'épée et dévoua selon l'ordre de Moïse, serviteur de l'Éternel.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, [and] he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

13 Seulement toutes les villes restées sur leur emplacement ne furent pas brûlées par Israël, à l'exception de Hatsor qui seule fut brûlée par Josué.

But [as for] the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; [that] did Joshua burn.

14 Et les enfants d'Israël firent leur butin de toutes les dépouilles de ces villes et des bestiaux; seulement ils passèrent au fil de l'épée la totalité des hommes, jusqu'à leur extermination, sans rien laisser de ce qui respirait.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

15 Ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse, son serviteur, ainsi Moïse l'ordonna-t-il à Josué, et ainsi fit Josué sans rien omettre de tout ce que l'Éternel avait ordonné à Moïse.

As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.

16 C'est ainsi que Josué conquit tout ce pays-là, la Montagne et tout le Midi et tout le district de Gosen et le Pays-bas et la plaine et la montagne d'Israël avec son Pays-bas,

So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

17 depuis la croupe nue qui monte vers Séir, jusqu'à Baal-Gad dans la vallée du Liban au pied du mont Hermon, et il prit tous leurs Rois qu'il égorgea et fit périr.

[Even] from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

18 La guerre que Josué soutint contre tous ces Rois fut de longue durée.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

19 Il n'y eut pas une ville qui se rendît par capitulation aux enfants d'Israël, excepté les Hévites habitant Gabaon; ils les prirent toutes après un combat.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all [other] they took in battle.

20 Car ce fut par une dispensation de l'Éternel que leur cœur s'endurcit pour engager la lutte avec Israël, afin qu'on les dévouât, qu'on ne leur fît point de quartier, mais qu'on les détruisît, au contraire, comme l'Éternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse.

For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, [and] that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

21 Et dans ce même temps Josué se mit en marche; et il extermina les Anakites de la Montagne, de Hébron, de Debir, de Anab et de toute la Montagne de Juda et de toute la montagne d'Israël: Josué les dévoua avec leurs villes.

And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

22 Il ne resta point d'Anakites dans le pays des enfants d'Israël; il n'en resta que dans Gaza, Gath et Asdod.

There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

23 Et c'est ainsi que Josué s'empara de tout le pays, selon toutes les promesses faites par l'Éternel à Moïse, et Josué le donna comme patrimoine à Israël selon ses divisions, selon ses Tribus. Et le pays eut trêve de guerre.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
