Job 33
1 Eh bien donc! ô Job, écoute mes discours, et prête l'oreille à toutes mes paroles!
Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2 Voici, je vais ouvrir la bouche, et déjà ma langue sur mon palais marque ma parole.
Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3 La droiture de mon cœur sera dans mon langage, et mes lèvres exprimeront sincèrement ma pensée.
My words [shall be of] the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4 L'Esprit de Dieu m'a créé, et le souffle du Tout-puissant m'anime.
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5 Si tu le peux, réponds-moi! prépare-toi au combat! prends position!
If thou canst answer me, set [thy words] in order before me, stand up.
6 Devant Dieu mon rang est le même que le tien; du limon je fus aussi formé.
Behold, I [am] according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7 Voici, la peur de moi ne peut t'épouvanter, et mon poids ne saurait t'accabler.
Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8 Oui, tu l'as dit à mes propres oreilles, et j'entends encore le son de tes paroles:
Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words, [saying],
9 « Je suis pur, sans péché, je suis net et sans crime.
I am clean without transgression, I [am] innocent; neither [is there] iniquity in me.
10 Voici, Il en vient contre moi à des hostilités, et Il me regarde comme son ennemi;
Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11 Il met des entraves à mes pieds, et surveille toutes mes voies. »
He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12 Voici quelle est ma réponse: En cela tu n'as pas raison; car Dieu est plus grand qu'un mortel.
Behold, [in] this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13 Pourquoi Le prends-tu à partie, puisqu'il ne répond point à ce qu'on lui dit?…
Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14 Cependant Dieu parle d'une manière, puis d'une autre, mais on n'y prend pas garde;
For God speaketh once, yea twice, [yet man] perceiveth it not.
15 c'est par un songe, une vision nocturne, quand le sommeil envahit les hommes assoupis sur leur couche;
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 alors Il se révèle aux humains, et scelle la leçon qu'il leur donne,
Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 afin de retirer l'homme de son train, et de mettre le mortel à l'abri de l'orgueil,
That he may withdraw man [from his] purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 l'empêchant ainsi de descendre au tombeau, et d'exposer sa vie aux coups de l'épée.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19 La douleur sur son lit vient aussi l'avertir, quand il sent dans ses os un combat incessant,
He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain: ]
20 quand le pain répugne à son palais, et qu'un mets favori n'excite plus son envie;
So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21 quand sa chair dépérit et disparaît, et qu'on voit paraître ses os mis à nu,
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones [that] were not seen stick out.
22 quand son âme s'avance vers le tombeau, et sa vie, vers les anges de la mort.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23 S'il se trouve alors un ange pour lui, un intercesseur, l'un d'entre ces mille chargés d'indiquer à l'homme son droit chemin;
If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24 alors Il prend pitié de lui et dit: Rachète-le de la descente au tombeau! j'ai trouvé une rançon.
Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25 Aussitôt son corps reprend plus de fraîcheur que dans son enfance; il revient aux jours de sa jeunesse;
His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26 il adresse à Dieu sa prière, et Dieu lui redevient propice; il contemple sa face avec des transports, et Dieu lui rend sa justice.
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27 Il triomphe devant les hommes et dit: « J'avais péché et fait fléchir la droiture, mais je n'ai point subi la peine équivalente.
He looketh upon men, and [if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted [that which was] right, and it profited me not;
28 Il a racheté mon âme de la descente au tombeau: Je vis! et la lumière réjouit mes regards. »
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29 Voilà, toutes ces choses, Dieu les fait deux fois, trois fois à l'homme,
Lo, all these [things] worketh God oftentimes with man,
30 pour retirer son âme du tombeau, afin qu'il soit éclairé de la lumière de la vie.
To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31 O Job! sois attentif! écoute-moi! et je parlerai.
Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32 Si tu as à parler, réponds-moi! parle, car je désire te donner raison!
If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33 Sinon, écoute-moi! Garde le silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.
If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
