Job 19
1 Et Job répondit et dit:
Then Job answered and said,
2 Jusques à quand affligerez-vous mon cœur, et me briserez-vous par vos discours?
How long will ye vex my soul, and destroy me with words? only know that the Lord has dealt with me thus.
3 Dix fois déjà vous m'avez humilié; n'aurez-vous point honte de me maltraiter?
Ye speak against me; ye do not feel for me, but bear hard upon me.
4 Si vraiment j'ai failli, c'est à moi qu'en reste la faute.
Yea verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it was not right [to speak]; and my words err, and are unreasonable.
5 Est-ce bien envers moi que vous le prenez haut? Est-ce moi que vous déclarez coupable de ma honte?
But alas! for ye magnify yourselves against me, and insult me with reproach.
6 Comprenez donc que c'est Dieu qui m'abat, et m'enserre dans son filet.
Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled [me], and has raised his bulwark against me.
7 Voici, je crie à la violence, et ne suis pas écouté! je demande du secours, et n'obtiens pas justice!
Behold, I laugh at reproach; I will not speak: [or] I will cry out, but [there is] nowhere judgment.
8 Il a barré ma route pour que je ne puisse passer, et Il a mis l'obscurité sur mon sentier:
I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: he has set darkness before my face.
9 Il m'a dépouillé de ma gloire, et a enlevé la couronne de ma tête;
And he has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head.
10 Il m'a miné de toutes parts, et c'en est fait de moi! et Il a arraché, comme un arbre, mon espoir,
He has torn me around about, and I am gone: and he has cut off my hope like a tree.
11 et Il a allumé contre moi sa colère, et m'a envisagé comme son ennemi.
And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy.
12 Ensemble ses bataillons se sont avancés, et ils ont élevé leur chaussée pour m'atteindre, et se sont campés autour de ma tente.
His troops also came upon me with one accord, liars in wait compassed my ways.
13 Il a éloigné mes frères de moi, et mes intimes ne sont plus pour moi que des étrangers;
My brethren have stood aloof from me; they have recognized strangers [rather] than me: and my friends have become pitiless.
14 mes proches se retirent, et mes connaissances m'oublient;
My nearest of kin have not acknowledged me, and they that knew my name, have forgotten me.
15 les gens de ma maison et mes servantes me considèrent comme un étranger,
[As for] my household, and my maid-servants, I was a stranger before them.
16 je ne suis plus pour eux qu'un inconnu. J'appelle mon serviteur, et il ne répond point; de ma bouche il faut que je le prie.
I called my servant, and he hearkened not; and my mouth intreated [him].
17 Mon humeur est importune à ma femme, et je dégoûte les fils de mon sang.
And I besought my wife, and earnestly intreated the sons of my concubines.
18 Des enfants mêmes me méprisent: tenté-je de me lever, ils me tiennent des propos!
But they rejected me for ever; whenever I rise up, they speak against me.
19 Je suis l'aversion des hommes de ma société, et ceux que j'aimais, se tournent contre moi.
They that saw me abhorred me: the very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me.
20 Mes os sont collés à ma peau et à ma chair, et j'échappe à peine avec la peau de mes dents.
My flesh is corrupt under my skin, and my bones are held in [my] teeth.
21 Ayez, ayez pitié de moi, vous au moins, mes amis! car c'est la main de Dieu qui m'a frappé.
Pity me, pity me, O friends; for it is the hand of the Lord that has touched me.
22 Pourquoi me poursuivez-vous, comme Dieu? et êtes-vous insatiables de ma chair?
Wherefore do ye persecute me as also the Lord [does], and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23 Ah! si mes paroles pouvaient être écrites, et consignées dans un livre!
For oh that my words were written, and that they were recorded in a book forever,
24 Si, avec le burin de fer et le plomb, on pouvait pour toujours les incruster sur le roc!
with an iron pen and lead, or graven in the rocks!
25 Pour moi, je sais que mon Sauveur est vivant, et qu'il demeurera le dernier sur la terre;
For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me,
26 et, quand après ma peau ce [reste] aura été détruit, même sans chair je verrai Dieu;
[and] to raise up upon the earth my skin that endures these [sufferings]: for these things have been accomplished to me of the Lord;
27 oui! moi, je le verrai à moi propice, mes yeux le verront, et non ceux d'un autre: mon cœur en languit dans mon sein!
which I am conscious of in myself, which mine eye has seen, and not another, but all have been fulfilled to me in [my] bosom.
28 Oui, alors vous direz: Pourquoi le poursuivions-nous, et trouvions-nous en lui une racine de débats?
But if ye shall also say, What shall we say before him, and [so] find the root of the matter in him?
29 Redoutez l'épée pour vous, car la fureur est un crime puni par l'épée… C'est afin que vous sachiez qu'il y a un jugement.
Do ye also beware of deceit: for wrath will come upon transgressors; and then shall they know where their substance is.
