Job 11

1 Et Zophar de Naama prit la parole et dit:

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

2 A tant de paroles ne répondra-t-on point? Et l'homme aux discours aura-t-il gain de cause?

Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

3 A tes vains propos des hommes se tairont-ils, pour que tu te moques, sans que nul te réponde,

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

4 que tu dises: Ma doctrine est pure; et je suis net à Tes yeux?

For thou hast said, My doctrine [is] pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

5 Mais que Dieu veuille parler, et ouvrir ses lèvres contre toi,

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

6 pour te révéler les mystères d'une sagesse double de notre prudence! et tu verras que pour toi Dieu oublie une partie de ton crime.

And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that [they are] double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee [less] than thine iniquity [deserveth].

7 Atteindras-tu à la portée de Dieu? A la science parfaite du Tout-puissant atteindras-tu?

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

8 C'est la hauteur des Cieux! que ferais-tu? plus que la profondeur des Enfers! que saurais-tu? (Sheol h7585)

[It is] as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? (Sheol h7585)

9 Elle mesure en longueur plus que la terre, en largeur plus que la mer.

The measure thereof [is] longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

10 S'Il se porte agresseur, s'Il saisit, s'il convoque, qui l'arrêtera?

If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

11 Car Il connaît les hommes méchants, et voit le mal, sans effort d'attention.

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider [it]?

12 Mais l'homme est stupide dans sa sagacité, et le poulain de l'onagre naît l'égal d'un humain.

For vain man would be wise, though man be born [like] a wild ass’s colt.

13 Mais si tu diriges bien ton cœur, et que tu tendes vers Lui tes mains,

If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

14 (secoue le mal qui est en ta main, et ne laisse pas l'iniquité loger dans ta tente!)

If iniquity [be] in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

15 alors tu lèveras la tête sans reproche, tu seras ferme et sans crainte;

For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

16 alors tu oublieras ta peine; il t'en souviendra comme d'eaux écoulées;

Because thou shalt forget [thy] misery, [and] remember [it] as waters [that] pass away:

17 la vie surgira plus claire que le midi; assombri, tu seras comme le matin;

And [thine] age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

18 tu auras de l'assurance, car il y aura espérance; outragé, tu te coucheras tranquille;

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig [about thee, and] thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

19 dans ton repos, nul ne te troublera, et plusieurs flatteront ton visage.

Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make [thee] afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

20 Mais les yeux des impies se consumeront, la retraite leur sera coupée, et leur espoir sera un dernier soupir.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope [shall be as] the giving up of the ghost.
