Jérémie 13

1 Ainsi me parla l'Éternel: Va, et t'achète une ceinture de lin, et applique-la à tes reins, mais ne la mets pas dans l'eau.

Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

2 Et j'achetai la ceinture conformément à la parole de l'Éternel, et je l'appliquai à mes reins.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put [it] on my loins.

3 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée pour la seconde fois, en ces mots:

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

4 Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est autour de tes reins, et lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans une fente de rocher.

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which [is] upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

5 Et j'allai, et je la cachai près de l'Euphrate, comme me l'ordonnait l'Éternel.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

6 Et au bout de plusieurs jours, l'Éternel me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et prends-y la ceinture que je t'ai ordonné d'y cacher.

And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

7 Et j'allai vers l'Euphrate, et je creusai, et je pris la ceinture de l'endroit où je l'avais cachée; et voici, la ceinture était gâtée, et elle n'était plus bonne à rien.

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

8 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

9 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: C'est ainsi que je détruirai la magnificence de Juda, et la magnificence de Jérusalem, la grande.

Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 Ce peuple méchant, qui refuse d'écouter mes paroles, qui suit l'obstination de son cœur, et qui court après d'autres dieux, pour les servir et les adorer, il sera comme cette ceinture qui n'est plus bonne à rien.

This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

11 Car de même que la ceinture est attachée aux reins d'un homme, ainsi je m'étais attaché toute la maison d'Israël et toute la maison de Juda, dit l'Éternel, pour qu'elles fussent mon peuple, et ma renommée, et ma gloire, et mon honneur; mais ils n'ont pas obéi.

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Et tu leur diras cette parole: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël: Toutes les cruches seront remplies de vin. Mais ils te diront: Ne savons-nous pas que toutes les cruches se remplissent de vin?

Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

13 Dis-leur alors: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je remplirai tous les habitants de ce pays, et les rois assis sur le trône de David, et les sacrificateurs, et les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, d'enivrement.

Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

14 Et je les briserai les uns contre les autres, pères et fils ensemble, dit l'Éternel; je n'ai ni miséricorde, ni compassion, ni pitié qui m'empêche de les mettre en pièces.

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

15 Écoutez et prêtez l'oreille! dépouillez tout orgueil! car l'Éternel parle.

Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

16 Rendez gloire à l'Éternel, votre Dieu, avant qu'il envoie les ténèbres, et avant que vos pieds heurtent contre les montagnes de la nuit, et qu'il change la lumière que vous attendez en une ombre de mort, et en une morne obscurité.

Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, [and] make [it] gross darkness.

17 Et si vous n'écoutez pas, alors dans le secret je déplorerai votre orgueil, mes yeux pleureront et répandront des larmes, parce que le troupeau de l'Éternel s'en ira captif.

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive.

18 Dis au roi et à la reine: Humiliez-vous! asseyez-vous! car de votre tête tombe votre couronne de majesté.

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, [even] the crown of your glory.

19 Les villes du Midi sont fermées, et personne ne les ouvre; tout Juda est déporté, déporté en totalité.

The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open [them: ] Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

20 Lève tes yeux, et vois ceux qui viennent du Nord! Où est le troupeau qui te fut donné, le troupeau qui était ta gloire?

Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where [is] the flock [that] was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

21 Que diras-tu, s'il établit sur toi comme chefs ceux que tu habituas toi-même à te maîtriser? Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas, comme la femme qui enfante?

What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them [to be] captains, [and] as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

22 Et si tu dis en ton cœur: « Pourquoi m'arrivent ces choses? » C'est pour le nombre de tes iniquités que tes pans ont été retroussés, et tes talons déshonorés.

And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, [and] thy heels made bare.

23 Un More changerait-il sa peau, et un léopard ses taches? Vous aussi, pourriez-vous faire le bien, étant habitués à faire le mal?

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? [then] may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

24 Mais je les disséminerai comme la balle emportée au vent du désert.

Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

25 Tel sera ton lot, ta portion mesurée de par moi, dit l'Éternel, parce que tu m'as oublié, et que tu as placé ta confiance dans le mensonge;

This [is] thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

26 moi aussi je veux relever tes pans jusque sur ton visage, et l'on verra ta honte.

Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

27 Tes adultères et tes hennissements, tes criminelles prostitutions sur les collines dans les campagnes… j'ai vu tes infamies. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem, tu ne seras pas pure pendant combien de temps encore!

I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, [and] thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when [shall it] once [be]?
