Jérémie 1
1 Paroles de Jérémie, fils d'Hilkia, l'un des sacrificateurs d'Anathoth au pays de Benjamin,
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.
2 à qui fut adressée la parole de l'Éternel dans le temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne,
The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
3 et dans le temps de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la déportation de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois.
It also came in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem were taken away as prisoners.
4 La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
5 Avant de te former dans les flancs de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu sortisses de son sein, je te consacrai, et je t'établis prophète des nations.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I chose you; before you came out from the womb I set you apart; I made you a prophet to the nations.”
6 Et je dis: Hélas! Seigneur, Éternel, voici, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant.
“Ah, Lord Yahweh!” I said, “I do not know how to speak, for I am too young.”
7 Et l'Éternel me dit: Ne dis pas: « Je suis un enfant; » mais va vers quiconque je t'enverrai, et dis tout ce que je t'ordonnerai!
But Yahweh said to me, “Do not say, 'I am too young.' You must go everywhere I send you, and you must say whatever I command you!
8 N'aie point peur devant eux! car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Éternel.
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to rescue you—this is Yahweh's declaration.”
9 Et l'Éternel étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche, et l'Éternel me dit: Voici, je mets mes paroles en ta bouche.
Then Yahweh reached out with his hand, touched my mouth, and said to me, “Now, I have placed my word in your mouth.
10 Vois, je te prépose en ce jour sur les peuples et sur les royaumes, pour arracher et pour abattre, pour perdre et pour détruire, pour édifier et pour planter.
I am appointing you today over nations and over kingdoms, to uproot and break down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”
11 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots: Que vois-tu, Jérémie? Et je dis: Je vois un jet d'amandier.
The word of Yahweh came to me, saying, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I said, “I see an almond branch.”
12 Et l'Éternel me dit: Tu as bien vu; car je veille sur ma parole pour y donner effet.
Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to carry it out.”
13 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois en ces mots: Que vois-tu? Et je dis: Je vois une chaudière qui bout, dans la direction du septentrion.
The word of Yahweh came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a heated pot, whose surface is churning, tipping away from the north.”
14 Et l'Éternel me dit: C'est du septentrion que la calamité éclatera sur tous les habitants du pays.
Yahweh said to me, “Disaster will be opened up out of the north on all who live in this land.
15 Car voici, je vais convoquer toutes les tribus des royaumes au septentrion, dit l'Éternel, et ils viendront, et placeront chacun leur station à l'avenue des portes de Jérusalem, et contre ses murailles tout à l'entour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda,
For I am calling all the tribes of the northern kingdoms, declares Yahweh. They will come, and everyone will set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all the walls that surround it, and against all the cities of Judah.
16 et je prononcerai ma sentence contre eux à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et qu'ils ont encensé d'autres dieux, et adoré l'ouvrage de leurs mains.
I will pronounce sentence against them for all their evil in forsaking me, in burning incense to other gods, and in worshiping what they made with their own hands.
17 Mais toi, ceins tes reins, et te lève, et leur dis tout ce que je t'ordonnerai; ne sois point timide devant eux, afin que je ne t'intimide pas devant eux.
Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be shattered before them, or I will shatter you before them!
18 Et voici, je fais de toi en ce jour une ville forte, et une colonne de fer, et un mur d'airain contre tout le pays, les rois de Juda, ses princes, ses sacrificateurs, et contre le peuple du pays.
Behold! Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.
19 Et ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien contre toi; car je suis avec toi, dit l'Éternel, pour te protéger.
They will fight against you, but they will not defeat you, for I will be with you to rescue you—this is Yahweh's declaration.”
