Isaïe 59
1 Voici, la main de l'Éternel n'est pas trop courte pour sauver, ni son oreille trop dure pour entendre;
Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
2 mais ce sont vos crimes qui vous séparent de votre Dieu, et vos péchés qui vous dérobent sa face, et l'empêchent d'entendre.
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
3 Car vos mains sont souillées de sang, et vos doigts de crimes, vos lèvres profèrent le mensonge, et votre langue tient des discours pervers.
For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
4 Nul n'assigne avec le bon droit, et nul ne plaide avec droiture; on se fie sur un vain parler, et l'on ment; portant la malice dans leur sein, ils enfantent le crime.
None calleth for justice, nor [any] pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
5 Ils couvent des œufs d'aspic, et ourdissent des toiles d'araignée; quiconque mange de leurs œufs, meurt, et en presse-t-on un, il éclôt une vipère.
They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.
6 Leurs trames ne servent pas à vêtir, et de leur ouvrage ils ne peuvent se faire un manteau, leurs: œuvres sont œuvres de malice, et la violence est dans leurs mains.
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works [are] works of iniquity, and the act of violence [is] in their hands.
7 Leurs pieds courent au mal et se hâtent pour verser le sang innocent, leurs pensées sont des pensées méchantes, le ravage et la ruine sont sur leur route.
Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts [are] thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction [are] in their paths.
8 Ils ne connaissent pas le chemin de la paix, et il n'y a point de justice dans leurs voies; ils se font des sentiers obliques; quiconque les foule, ne connaît point la paix.
The way of peace they know not; and [there is] no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
9 Aussi la droiture est-elle loin de nous, et la justice ne parvient pas jusqu'à nous; nous attendons la lumière, et voilà les ténèbres; de jour nous marchons dans l'obscurité.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, [but] we walk in darkness.
10 Comme des aveugles nous tâtonnons le long de la muraille, et nous allons à tâtons comme étant sans yeux; nous trébuchons en plein jour comme dans la nuit; sur de gras pâturages nous ressemblons à des morts.
We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if [we had] no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; [we are] in desolate places as dead [men].
11 Comme les ours nous grondons tous, et nous gémissons comme les tourterelles; nous attendons la justice, et elle ne vient pas; le salut, il s'éloigne de nous.
We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but [there is] none; for salvation, [but] it is far off from us.
12 Car nos crimes sont nombreux devant toi, et nos péchés témoignent contre nous, car nous avons la conscience de nos crimes, et nous connaissons nos forfaits.
For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions [are] with us; and [as for] our iniquities, we know them;
13 Nous fûmes rebelles et reniâmes l'Éternel, et nous tirâmes en arrière de notre Dieu; nous tînmes des discours violents et séditieux, nous conçûmes dans le cœur et enfantâmes des discours trompeurs.
In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
14 Le bon droit fit retraite, et la justice se tint à l'écart, car la vérité trébuche dans la place publique et la droiture n'y peut avoir accès.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
15 La vérité devint rare, et quiconque fuyait le mal, était dépouillé. Et l'Éternel le vit, et l'absence d'équité déplut à ses yeux.
Yea, truth faileth; and he [that] departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw [it], and it displeased him that [there was] no judgment.
16 Et Il vit qu'il n'y avait pas un homme, et s'étonna qu'il n'y eût point d'intercesseur; aussi eut-Il recours à son propre bras, et ce fut sur sa justice qu'il s'appuya.
And he saw that [there was] no man, and wondered that [there was] no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
17 Et Il se revêtit de justice comme d'une cuirasse, posant sur sa tête le casque du salut, Il prit l'équipement de la vengeance comme vêtement, et se couvrit de jalousie comme d'un manteau.
For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.
18 A tels actes Il rendra tel retour, la fureur à ses adversaires et la pareille à ses ennemis, et aux îles Il rendra la pareille.
According to [their] deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.
19 Alors depuis le Couchant on craindra le nom de l'Éternel, et depuis le Levant sa gloire: quand l'ennemi s'avancera comme un fleuve, l'Esprit de l'Éternel le dissipera.
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
20 Et il vient un rédempteur pour Sion, pour les pécheurs convertis dans Jacob, dit l'Éternel.
And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.
21 Et quant à moi, voici l'alliance que je fais avec eux, dit l'Éternel: mon Esprit qui repose sur toi, et mes paroles que j'ai mises en ta bouche ne cesseront d'être dans ta bouche et dans la bouche de tes enfants, et dans la bouche des enfants de tes enfants, dit l'Éternel, dès maintenant à jamais.
As for me, this [is] my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that [is] upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
