Isaïe 57
1 Le juste périt et nul n'y prend garde, et les gens de bien sont enlevés, sans que nul remarque que le juste est enlevé par l'effet de la malice.
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth [it] to heart: and merciful men [are] taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil [to come].
2 Il entre dans la paix; ils reposent sur leur couche, ceux qui marchent droit.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, [each one] walking [in] his uprightness.
3 Mais vous, avancez ici, fils d'enchanteresse, race de l'adultère et de la prostituée!
But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore.
4 Aux dépens de qui vous égayez-vous? A qui présentez-vous une bouche élargie, tirez-vous la langue? N'êtes-vous pas des enfants de la révolte, une race menteuse,
Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, [and] draw out the tongue? [are] ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,
5 brûlant pour des idoles sous tout arbre vert, immolant des enfants dans les vallées, dans les creux des rochers?
Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
6 Les pierres des torrents sont ton partage, c'est elles qui sont ton lot; à elles aussi tu fais des libations, tu présentes des oblations: y puis-je être insensible?
Among the smooth [stones] of the stream [is] thy portion; they, they [are] thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
7 Sur une montagne haute et éminente tu dresses ton lit, et l'a aussi tu montes pour offrir des victimes.
Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
8 Et derrière la porte et les jambages tu places les objets de ta pensée. Car me désertant, tu découvres ton lit et y montes, et tu l'as rendu spacieux, et tu leur fais tes conditions, et tu aimes leur commerce: tu te choisis une place.
Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered [thyself to another] than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee [a covenant] with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest [it].
9 Et tu te présentes au roi avec de l'huile, ayant sur toi beaucoup de parfums; tu envoies tes messagers au loin, et les fais pénétrer jusqu'aux Enfers. (Sheol h7585)
And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase [thyself even] unto hell. (Sheol h7585)
10 A force de voyager tu te fatigues, mais tu ne dis pas: C'est en vain! Tu trouves encore de la vigueur en ta main; aussi n'es-tu pas affaiblie!
Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; [yet] saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved.
11 Et qui donc crains-tu et redoutes-tu, que tu dissimules et ne te souviens pas de moi? Tu n'en as pas tenu compte! N'est-ce pas? je garde le silence, et même depuis longtemps; c'est pourquoi tu ne me crains pas!
And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid [it] to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?
12 Je mettrai ta justice au jour, et tes œuvres qui ne te profiteront pas.
I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
13 Quand tu cries, tes bandes de dieux te sauveront-elles? Eh! un coup de vent les enlève tous, un souffle les emporte. Mais qui se confie en moi, héritera le pays et possédera ma montagne sainte;
When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take [them: ] but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;
14 et il dit: Frayez, frayez, préparez le chemin, ôtez tout achoppement de la route de mon peuple!
And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
15 Car ainsi parle le Suprême, l'Éminent dont le trône est éternel, et qui s'appelle le Saint: J'habite les lieux très hauts et saints, mais aussi près de l'affligé et de l'homme abattu d'esprit, pour ranimer l'esprit des hommes abattus, et ranimer le cœur des affligés.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
16 Car je ne veux pas contester à toujours, ni garder une colère éternelle, puisqu'à ma présence l'esprit et les âmes que j'ai faites, tombent en défaillance.
For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls [which] I have made.
17 Pour le crime de son avarice je m'irritai et le frappai, je me cachai, et m'irritai: rebelle néanmoins, il suivit la voie que lui montrait son cœur.
For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.
18 J'ai vu ses voies; mais je veux le guérir, et le conduire, et lui donner des consolations à lui et à ses affligés,
I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.
19 faisant éclater la louange sur ses lèvres. Paix, paix, pour celui qui est loin, et pour celui qui est près, dit l'Éternel! je veux les guérir.
I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to [him that is] far off, and to [him that is] near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.
20 Mais les impies sont comme la mer agitée; car elle ne peut se calmer, et les eaux soulèvent du limon et de la vase.
But the wicked [are] like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
21 Point de paix, dit mon Dieu, pour les impies!
[There is] no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
