Isaïe 34

1 Approchez, peuples, pour entendre, et vous, nations, écoutez! Que la terre écoute et tout ce qu'elle enserre, le monde et toutes ses productions!

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

2 Car l'Éternel est irrité contre toutes les nations, et courroucé contre toute leur armée; Il les dévoue et Il les livre au carnage.

For the indignation of the LORD [is] upon all nations, and [his] fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

3 Leurs morts sont jetés, et de leurs cadavres s'exhale la puanteur, et les montagnes ruissellent de leur sang.

Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

4 Toute l'armée des Cieux se dissout, et comme un volume les Cieux sont roulés, et toute leur armée tombe, comme du cep la feuille flétrie, comme du figuier la dépouille flétrie.

And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling [fig] from the fig tree.

5 Car mon épée s'est enivrée dans les Cieux: voici, elle va fondre sur Edom et sur le peuple que j'ai dévoué, pour le jugement.

For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

6 L'épée de l'Éternel est pleine de sang, engraissée de la graisse du sang des agneaux et des boucs, de la graisse du dos des béliers. Car il y a en Botsra un sacrifice de l'Éternel, et une grande boucherie dans le pays d'Edom.

The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, [and] with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

7 Et avec eux y tombent les buffles et les taureaux avec les bœufs, et leur pays s'abreuve de sang, et leur sol aura la graisse pour engrais.

And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

8 Car l'Éternel aura une journée de vengeance, une année de représailles pour venger Sion.

For [it is] the day of the LORD’s vengeance, [and] the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

9 Et ses rivières seront changées en poix, et son sol en soufre, et son pays deviendra une poix brûlante:

And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.

10 ni nuit ni jour elle ne s'éteindra, éternellement sa fumée montera; d'âge en âge elle sera désolée; jamais dans aucun temps il n'y aura de passants.

It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

11 Elle sera occupée par le pélican et le hérisson, le héron et le corbeau l'habiteront; on y étendra le cordeau du ravage et le niveau de la désolation.

But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.

12 Ses grands! il n'y en a plus pour proclamer un roi, et c'en est fait de tous ses princes.

They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none [shall be] there, and all her princes shall be nothing.

13 Et les épines grimpent dans ses palais, les orties et les ronces dans ses forts; et elle est un gîte pour les chacals, un parc pour les autruches:

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, [and] a court for owls.

14 c'est le rendez-vous des bêtes du désert et des loups, et les satyres y viennent au-devant l'un de l'autre, elle n'est le séjour que du spectre de la nuit qui y trouve son lieu de repos.

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.

15 Là niche le serpent-dard, et il y pond: il fait éclore et couve ses petits à son ombre; des vautours seuls s'y réunissent l'un avec l'autre.

There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

16 Cherchez dans le livre de l'Éternel et lisez! aucun d'eux n'y manquera, l'un ne regrettera point l'absence de l'autre; car c'est ma bouche qui l'ordonne et mon esprit qui les réunira.

Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

17 Et Il tire au sort pour eux, et sa main leur partage ce pays au cordeau; éternellement ils l'occuperont et d'âge en âge y feront leur séjour.

And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
