Aggée 2

1 Le septième mois, le vingt-unième jour du mois, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:

In the seventh [month], in the one and twentieth [day] of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,

2 Parle donc à Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, gouverneur de Juda, et à Josué, fils de Jéhotsadak, grand sacrificateur, et aux restes du peuple, et dis:

Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

3 Qui d'entre vous a assez vécu pour avoir vu cette maison dans sa splendeur première? Et dans quel état! la voyez-vous maintenant? n'est-ce pas, une telle maison est comme rien à vos yeux?

Who [is] left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? [is it] not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

4 Mais maintenant, courage, Zorobabel! dit l'Éternel, courage, Josué, fils de Jéhotsadak, grand sacrificateur! et courage, vous, tout le peuple du pays! dit l'Éternel, et travaillez! car je suis avec vous, dit l'Éternel des armées,

Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I [am] with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

5 aux termes de l'alliance que je conclus avec vous à votre sortie de l'Egypte, et mon Esprit demeure au milieu de vous; soyez sans crainte!

[According to] the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

6 Car ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Encore un peu de temps, et j'ébranlerai les Cieux et la terre, et la mer et la terre sèche,

For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it [is] a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land; ]

7 et j'ébranlerai toutes les nations, et les objets précieux de tous les peuples afflueront, et je remplirai cette maison de splendeur, dit l'Éternel des armées.

And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

8 A moi est l'argent, et à moi l'or, dit l'Éternel des armées.

The silver [is] mine, and the gold [is] mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

9 La gloire à venir de cette maison sera plus grande que la première, dit l'Éternel des armées, et dans ce lieu-ci j'établirai la paix, dit l'Éternel des armées.

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

10 Le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:

In the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth [month], in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Propose aux sacrificateurs une question de loi, en ces mots:

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests [concerning] the law, saying,

12 Si quelqu'un porte de la chair sacrée dans la bordure de son manteau, et que de cette bordure il touche du pain ou du légume ou du vin et de l'huile et un aliment quelconque, ces choses en deviendront-elles sacrées? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Non!

If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13 Et Aggée dit: Si un homme souillé par un cadavre touche à toutes ces choses, seront-elles souillées? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Elles seront souillées.

Then said Haggai, If [one that is] unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14 Alors Aggée prit la parole et dit: Il en est de même de ce peuple et de toute cette nation à mes yeux, dit l'Éternel, et ainsi de toute l'œuvre de leurs mains, et toutes les offrandes qu'ils font là, sont souillées.

Then answered Haggai, and said, So [is] this people, and so [is] this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so [is] every work of their hands; and that which they offer there [is] unclean.

15 Et maintenant soyez attentifs [au temps écoulé] depuis aujourd'hui en remontant au jour où l'on ne mettait pas encore pierre sur pierre dans le temple de l'Éternel.

And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

16 Dès ce moment on venait à un tas de blé pour trouver vingt, et il n'y avait que dix; on venait à la cuve pour puiser cinquante au pressoir, et il n'y avait que vingt.

Since those [days] were, when [one] came to an heap of twenty [measures], there were [but] ten: when [one] came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty [vessels] out of the press, there were [but] twenty.

17 Je vous frappai par le charbon et la nielle et la grêle dans les travaux de vos mains, mais vous ne revîntes pas à moi, dit l'Éternel.

I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye [turned] not to me, saith the LORD.

18 Soyez attentifs [au temps écoulé] depuis aujourd'hui en remontant, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois au jour où fut fondé le temple de l'Éternel, soyez attentifs!

Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth [month, even] from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider [it].

19 Y a-t-il encore du grain dans les greniers? et de plus, la vigne et le figuier et le grenadier et l'olivier n'ont rien produit. Mais dès ce jour je vous bénirai.

Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless [you].

20 Et la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée pour la seconde fois à Aggée, le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, en ces mots:

And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,

21 Parle à Zorobabel, gouverneur de Juda, et dis:

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

22 J'ébranlerai les Cieux et la terre, et je renverserai les trônes des rois, et je détruirai la puissance des empires des peuples, et je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent, et les chevaux et leurs cavaliers seront culbutés, par l'épée les uns des autres.

And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

23 Dans ce même temps, dit l'Éternel des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, mon serviteur, dit l'Éternel, et te garderai comme un sceau; car je t'ai choisi, dit l'Éternel des armées.

In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
