Esdras 8

1 Et voici leurs Chefs de maisons patriarcales, et leur généalogie, de ceux qui partirent avec moi, sous le règne du roi Arthaehsastha, de Babel:

These [are] now the chief of their fathers, and [this is] the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

2 Des fils de Phinées, Gersom; des fils d'Ithamar, Daniel; des fils de David, Hattus; des fils de Sechania

Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershom: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush.

3 (des fils de Paréos) Zacharie, et avec lui furent enregistrés cent cinquante mâles;

Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty.

4 des fils de Pachath-Moab Elioénaï, fils de Zeraïa, et avec lui deux cents mâles;

Of the sons of Pahath-moab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

5 des fils de Sechania, le fils de Jahaziel, et avec lui trois cents mâles;

Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

6 et des fils de Adin, Ebed, fils de Jonathan, et avec lui cinquante mâles;

Of the sons also of Adin; Ebed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

7 et des fils de Eilam, Ésaïe, fils d'Athalia, et avec lui soixante-dix mâles;

And of the sons of Elam; Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

8 et des fils de Sephatia, Zebadia, fils de Michaël, et avec lui quatre-vingts mâles;

And of the sons of Shephatiah; Zebadiah the son of Michael, and with him fourscore males.

9 des fils de Joab, Obadia, fils de Jehiel, et avec lui deux cent dix-huit mâles;

Of the sons of Joab; Obadiah the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

10 et des fils de Selomith, le fils de Josiphia, et avec lui cent soixante mâles;

And of the sons of Shelomith; the son of Josiphiah, and with him an hundred and threescore males.

11 et des fils de Bébaï, Zacharie, fils de Bébaï, et avec lui vingt-huit mâles;

And of the sons of Bebai; Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty and eight males.

12 et des fils de Azgad, Jochanan, fils de Haccatan, et avec lui cent dix mâles;

And of the sons of Azgad; Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him an hundred and ten males.

13 et des fils d'Adonicam, les derniers, dont voici les noms: Eliphélet, Jehiel et Semaïa, et avec eux soixante mâles;

And of the last sons of Adonikam, whose names [are] these, Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them threescore males.

14 et des fils de Bigvaï, Uthaï et Zabbud, et avec eux soixante-dix mâles.

Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zabbud, and with them seventy males.

15 Et je les rassemblai sur le fleuve qui coule à Ahava, et nous campâmes là trois jours; et considérant avec attention le peuple et les Prêtres, je ne trouvai là aucun des fils de Lévi.

And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

16 Alors j'envoyai chercher Eliézer, Ariel, Semaïa et Elnathan et Jarib et Elnathan et Nathan et Zacharie et Mesullam, les chefs, et Jojarib et Elnathan, les experts,

Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

17 et je les dépêchai à Iddo, chef dans la localité de Casphia, et je leur mis dans la bouche ce qu'ils devaient dire à Iddo [et] à son frère, aux asservis, dans la localité de Casphia pour nous amener des servants pour la Maison de notre Dieu.

And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, [and] to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

18 Et par l'effet de la bénigne main de notre Dieu qui nous protégeait, ils nous amenèrent un homme entendu d'entre les fils de Maheli, fils de Lévi, fils d'Israël, et Serabia et ses fils et frères, dix-huit;

And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

19 et Hasabia et avec lui Ésaïe, des fils de Merari ses frères et fils, vingt;

And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

20 et des asservis que David et ses princes avaient, affectés comme assujettis au service des Lévites, deux cent vingt, tous désignés par leurs noms.

Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.

21 Et là sur le fleuve Ahava je publiai un jeûne pour nous humilier devant notre Dieu, à l'effet de lui demander heureux voyage pour nous et nos enfants et tout notre avoir.

Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

22 Car j'avais honte de demander au roi de la troupe et de la cavalerie pour nous protéger contre nos ennemis pendant le trajet. En effet nous avions dit au roi: La main de notre Dieu est étendue sur tous ceux qui Le cherchent, pour leur faire du bien; mais sa puissance et sa colère sont contre tous ceux qui L'abandonnent.

For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God [is] upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath [is] against all them that forsake him.

23 C'est ainsi que nous jeûnâmes et adressâmes sur ce point notre requête à notre Dieu, et Il nous exauça.

So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

24 Et parmi les chefs des Prêtres j'en choisis douze, Sérébia, Hasabia et avec eux dix de leurs frères,

Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

25 et je leur pesai l'argent et l'or et la vaisselle, don pour la Maison de notre Dieu, qu'avaient dédié le roi et ses conseillers et ses princes et tous les Israélites présents.

And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, [even] the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel [there] present, had offered:

26 Et je délivrai entre leurs mains un poids de six cent cinquante talents d'argent, et en vaisselle d'argent cent talents, en or cent talents

I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, [and] of gold an hundred talents;

27 et vingt coupes d'or valant mille dariques, et deux vases d'airain fin ayant l'éclat de l'or, estimé à l'égal de l'or.

Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.

28 Et je leur dis: Vous êtes consacrés à l'Éternel, et la vaisselle est chose sainte, et l'argent et l'or est un don spontané fait à l'Éternel, Dieu de vos pères.

And I said unto them, Ye [are] holy unto the LORD; the vessels [are] holy also; and the silver and the gold [are] a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

29 Soyez vigilants et le gardez jusqu'à ce que vous le pesiez en présence des chefs des Prêtres et des Lévites et des Patriarches d'Israël à Jérusalem dans les cellules de la Maison de l'Éternel.

Watch ye, and keep [them], until ye weigh [them] before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

30 Et les Prêtres et les Lévites reçurent l'argent et l'or pesé et la vaisselle pour les porter à Jérusalem dans la Maison de notre Dieu.

So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring [them] to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

31 Ensuite nous partîmes du fleuve Ahava le douzième jour du premier mois pour gagner Jérusalem. Et la main de notre Dieu nous couvrit et nous sauva de la main de l'ennemi et de l'insidiateur sur la route.

Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth [day] of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32 Et arrivés à Jérusalem nous y primes trois jours de repos.

And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

33 Et le quatrième jour nous pesâmes l'argent et l'or et la vaisselle dans le Temple de notre Dieu, entre les mains de Merémoth, fils du Prêtre Urie, et avec lui était Eléazar, fils de Phinées, et avec eux Jozabad, fils de Jésuah, et Noadia, fils de Binnuï, Lévites,

Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him [was] Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them [was] Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

34 d'après le nombre et le poids de tous les objets; et le poids total fut consigné à cette occasion.

By number [and] by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

35 Et revenus de l'exil les fils de la captivité offrirent des holocaustes au Dieu d'Israël: douze taureaux pour tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept brebis, et douze boucs comme victimes expiatoires, le tout en holocauste à l'Éternel.

[Also] the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats [for] a sin offering: all [this was] a burnt offering unto the LORD.

36 Et ils transmirent les ordres du roi aux satrapes du roi, et aux gouverneurs de ce côté du Fleuve, et ceux-ci donnèrent leur appui au peuple et à la Maison de Dieu.

And they delivered the king’s commissions unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors on this side the river: and they furthered the people, and the house of God.
