Ézéchiel 35

1 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:

Yahweh gave me another message. He said,

2 Fils de l'homme, tourne ton visage du côté de la montagne de Séir, et prophétise contre elle

“You human, turn toward Edom and prophesy what will happen to its people. Say that this is what Yahweh says to them:

3 et dis-lui: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, j'en veux à toi, montagne de Séir; je vais étendre ma main contre toi et faire de toi un désert et une solitude;

‘You who live near Seir Mountain [in Edom], I am opposed to you, and I will use my power [MTY] to strike you and cause your country to become a wasteland.

4 je mettrai tes villes en ruines, et toi tu seras changée en désert, afin que tu saches que je suis l'Éternel.

I will cause your country to be ruined and desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

5 Parce que tu avais une haine éternelle, et que tu as livré les enfants d'Israël à l'épée, au temps de leurs revers, au temps du crime qui amène la fin, pour cela,

You have always been enemies of the Israeli people. You [rejoiced] when they experienced a great disaster: [their enemies attacked them with] swords, when I punished them [for the sins that they had committed].

6 par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, je verserai ton sang, et tu seras poursuivie par le sang; parce que tu n'as pas eu en haine l'effusion du sang, tu seras poursuivie par le sang.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will allow [your enemies] to slaughter [MTY] you and continue to slaughter you. You were happy when [LIT] others were slaughtered;

7 Et je ferai de la montagne de Séir un désert et une solitude, et j'en exterminerai tous les passants et les voyageurs,

so I will cause Seir Mountain to be abandoned/deserted, and I will get rid of anyone who enters it or leaves it.

8 et je remplirai ses montagnes de morts; sur tes collines, et dans tes vallées et dans tous tes vallons les hommes tomberont percés par l'épée;

I will cause your mountains to be filled with [the corpses of] those who have been killed. The corpses of those who have been killed by [your enemies’] swords will lie on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.

9 je ferai de toi un désert éternel, et tes villes ne seront plus habitées, afin que vous sachiez que je suis l'Éternel.

I will cause your land to be deserted forever. No one will live in your towns again. When that happens, you will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

10 Parce que tu as dit: « Ces deux peuples et ces deux pays seront à moi, et nous les occuperons: » tandis que l'Éternel y était; c'est pourquoi,

You people said, “Israel and Judah will become ours. We will take over their territory!” You said that even though I, Yahweh, was still there [and protecting them].

11 par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, j'agirai avec la colère et la fureur que tu leur as montrée par l'effet de ta haine, et je me manifesterai au milieu d'eux, quand je te jugerai.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will punish [MTY] you for being angry with my people, envying them, and hating them.

12 Et tu sauras que je suis l'Éternel, et que j'ai entendu tous les outrages que tu as prononcés contre les montagnes d'Israël en disant: « Elles sont dévastées, nous sont livrées en proie. »

Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all the disgusting things that you have said about the mountains in Israel. You said that they have been ruined/devastated, and that they have been given to you to occupy [MET].

13 Vous avez ouvert contre moi une bouche insolente, et accumulé contre moi des discours altiers; j'ai entendu.

When you insulted me, I heard all that you said about me.

14 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: A la joie de toute la terre, je ferai de toi un désert.

So this is what I, Yahweh the Lord, say: You people who live on Seir Mountain and in all the other places in Edom, when I cause your land to become desolate, everyone in the entire world will rejoice.

15 Comme l'héritage de la maison d'Israël a excité ta joie, parce qu'il était ravagé, je te traiterai de même; la montagne de Séir, et Édom tout entier, sera un désert, afin qu'ils sachent que je suis l'Éternel.

You were happy when the land [MTY] of the Israeli people became desolate, so I will cause your land to become desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].’”
