Exode 22

1 Lorsque quelqu'un aura volé un bœuf ou un mouton, soit pour l'égorger, soit pour le vendre, il restituera cinq bœufs pour un bœuf et quatre moutons pour un mouton.

If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

2 Si le voleur est surpris faisant effraction et qu'il reçoive des coups dont il meure, il n'y a pas meurtre;

If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, [there shall] no blood [be shed] for him.

3 mais si le soleil l'a éclairé, il y aura meurtre. Il restituera; s'il n'a rien, il sera vendu pour la valeur de son vol.

If the sun be risen upon him, [there shall be] blood [shed] for him; [for] he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

4 Si la chose volée, bœuf, âne ou mouton vivant, est trouvée entre ses mains, il restituera le double.

If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.

5 Lorsque quelqu'un aura fait brouter un champ ou une vigne par son bétail qu'il aura introduit et laissé pâturer dans le champ d'autrui, il donnera pour le dommage le meilleur produit de son champ et de sa vigne.

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

6 Lorsque du feu échappé atteindra des épines et qu'une pile de gerbes, où une moisson, ou une plantation en sera ravagée, le dommage sera réparé par celui qui a été l'occasion de l'incendie.

If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed [therewith; ] he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

7 Lorsque quelqu'un aura commis de l'argent ou de la vaisselle à la garde de son prochain de la maison duquel ce dépôt sera enlevé, si le voleur est découvert, il restituera le double.

If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

8 Si le voleur ne se découvre pas, le maître de la maison paraîtra devant Dieu pour dire s'il n'a point mis la main sur la propriété de son prochain.

If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, [to see] whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.

9 Pour tous les cas de fraude au sujet d'un bœuf, d'un âne, d'un mouton, d'un manteau et de tout objet perdu, duquel on dit: ce l'est, les deux parties porteront l'affaire devant Dieu; celui que Dieu condamnera restituera le double à son prochain.

For all manner of trespass, [whether it be] for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, [or] for any manner of lost thing, which [another] challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; [and] whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

10 Lorsque quelqu'un aura commis à la garde de son prochain un âne ou un bœuf ou une brebis ou une pièce de bétail quelconque, qui périsse, se fracture ou soit enlevée en l'absence de témoins,

If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing [it: ]

11 le serment à l'Éternel interviendra entre les deux parties pour constater s'il n'a point mis la main sur la propriété de son prochain, et le propriétaire l'acceptera et le [dépositaire] ne paiera rien.

[Then] shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods; and the owner of it shall accept [thereof], and he shall not make [it] good.

12 Que si l'animal a été volé dans la maison du dépositaire, le propriétaire sera dédommagé;

And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

13 s'il a été déchiré, il sera produit en preuve; ce qui a été déchiré ne sera point restitué.

If it be torn in pieces, [then] let him bring it [for] witness, [and] he shall not make good that which was torn.

14 Lorsque quelqu'un aura emprunté de son prochain [une bête de somme], si elle se fracture ou périt n'étant pas accompagnée de son maître, c'est le cas de dédommager.

And if a man borrow [ought] of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof [being] not with it, he shall surely make [it] good.

15 Si son maître l'accompagne, il n'y a pas lieu de dédommager; si elle a été prise à louage, cela rentre dans son prix de louage.

[But] if the owner thereof [be] with it, he shall not make [it] good: if it [be] an hired [thing], it came for his hire.

16 Si un homme séduit une vierge qui n'est pas fiancée, et qu'il habite avec elle, il la prendra pour femme en payant le prix de l'épouse.

And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

17 Si le père refuse de la lui accorder, il paiera un prix égal au prix des vierges [qu'on marie].

If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

18 Tu ne laisseras point la vie à la magicienne.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

19 Quiconque se livre à la bestialité sera mis à mort.

Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

20 Celui qui sacrifie aux dieux et non à l'Éternel seul, sera frappé d'anathème.

He that sacrificeth unto [any] god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

21 Tu ne maltraiteras point l'étranger et ne l'opprimeras point; car vous fûtes étrangers dans le pays d'Egypte.

Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

22 Tu n'affligeras point la veuve et l'orphelin.

Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

23 Si tu les affliges, sache que s'ils élèvent vers moi leurs cris, j'écouterai, écouterai leurs cris,

If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

24 et ma colère s'allumera, et je vous ferai périr par l'épée, et vos femmes deviendront veuves et vos fils orphelins.

And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

25 Si tu prêtes de l'argent à mon peuple, au pauvre qui vit avec toi, ne sois point pour lui un usurier; tu ne lui imposeras point d'intérêts.

If thou lend money to [any of] my people [that is] poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

26 Si tu prends comme gage le manteau de ton prochain, tu le lui rendras avant le coucher du soleil;

If thou at all take thy neighbour’s raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:

27 car c'est sa seule couverture, le manteau qu'il a pour son corps; sur quoi coucherait-il? Que s'il élève vers moi ses cris, j'écouterai, car je suis miséricordieux.

For that [is] his covering only, it [is] his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I [am] gracious.

28 Tu ne parleras point de Dieu avec mépris, ni avec des malédictions d'un prince de ton peuple.

Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

29 Offre sans délai les prémices de ton aire, et de la liqueur de ton pressoir. Tu me donneras tes fils premiers-nés.

Thou shalt not delay [to offer] the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

30 Ainsi tu feras pour ton gros bétail et ton menu bétail; sept jours il restera auprès de sa mère, et le huitième tu m'en feras don.

Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, [and] with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

31 Et soyez pour moi des hommes saints; et ne mangez point la chair déchirée dans les champs; c'est aux chiens que vous la jetterez.

And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat [any] flesh [that is] torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
