Deutéronome 31

1 Et Moïse alla et adressa ces paroles à tous les Israélites

And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.

2 et leur dit: Je suis maintenant âgé de cent vingt ans, et je ne puis plus entrer et sortir, et l'Éternel m'a dit: Tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain;

And he said unto them, I [am] an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3 l'Éternel, ton Dieu, c'est Lui qui te précédera, Lui qui exterminera devant toi ces nations pour que vous en soyez maîtres. C'est Josué qui passera à votre tête, comme l'Éternel l'a annoncé.

The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, [and] he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: [and] Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.

4 Et l'Éternel les traitera, comme Il a traité Sihon et Og, rois des Amoréens, et leur pays qu'il a détruit.

And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

5 Mais quand l'Éternel vous les livrera, traitez-les en tout point selon l'ordre que je vous ai prescrit.

And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

6 Soyez courageux et fermes, n'ayez ni crainte ni peur d'eux, car c'est l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui marchera avec toi. Il ne vous fera pas défaut, ne vous abandonnera pas.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is] that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

7 Et Moïse appela Josué et lui dit en présence de tout Israël: Sois courageux et ferme, car c'est toi qui entreras avec ce peuple dans le pays que l'Éternel a juré à leurs pères de leur donner, et toi qui le leur partageras.

And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

8 Et c'est l'Éternel qui te précédera; Il sera avec toi, et ne te fera pas défaut, ne t'abandonnera pas; sois sans crainte et sans alarmes.

And the LORD, he [it is] that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

9 Et Moïse mit par écrit cette Loi et la remit aux Prêtres, fils de Lévi, porteurs de l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel, et à tous les Anciens d'Israël.

And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.

10 Et Moïse leur donna cette instruction: Au terme de sept ans, à l'époque de l'année du relâche, à la Fête des Loges,

And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of [every] seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,

11 lorsque tout Israël viendra se présenter devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, dans le lieu choisi par Lui, tu donneras lecture de cette Loi devant tout Israël, à leurs oreilles.

When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

12 Rassemble le peuple, les hommes et les femmes et les enfants et tes étrangers qui seront dans tes Portes, afin qu'ils entendent, et qu'ils apprennent à craindre l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et à s'appliquer à la pratique de tous les préceptes de cette Loi.

Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that [is] within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:

13 Et vos fils qui ignorent, écouteront et apprendront à craindre l'Éternel, votre Dieu, aussi longtemps que vous vivrez dans le pays dont après le passage du Jourdain vous allez faire la conquête.

And [that] their children, which have not known [any thing], may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

14 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Voici, le moment de ta mort approche; appelle Josué, et placez-vous dans la Tente du Rendez-vous, et je lui donnerai mes ordres. Et Moïse et Josué allèrent se placer dans la Tente du Rendez-vous.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.

15 Alors l'Éternel apparut dans la Tente, dans une colonne de nuée; et la colonne de nuée s'arrêta à la porte de la Tente.

And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.

16 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Voici, tu vas être couché à côté de tes pères, et ce peuple se lèvera, et se prostituera à la suite des dieux étrangers du pays dans lequel il va entrer, et il m'abandonnera, et rompra l'alliance que j'ai conclue avec lui;

And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go [to be] among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

17 et ma colère s'allumera contre lui dans ce moment-là, et je l'abandonnerai et lui cacherai ma face, et il sera livré comme proie, et atteint par beaucoup de maux et de détresses, et il dira alors: N'est-ce pas parce que notre Dieu n'est pas au milieu de moi, que ces maux m'ont atteint?

Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God [is] not among us?

18 Et je cacherai ma face dans ce temps-là, à cause de tout le mal qu'il aura fait en se tournant vers des dieux étrangers.

And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.

19 Et maintenant écrivez ce cantique, et apprends-le aux enfants d'Israël, mets-le dans leur bouche, afin que ce cantique me serve de témoin contre les enfants d'Israël.

Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

20 Car je les introduirai dans le pays que j'ai promis par serment à leurs pères, pays découlant de lait et de miel; puis ils mangeront et se rassasieront et s'engraisseront et se tourneront vers d'autres dieux et les serviront et me mépriseront et rompront mon alliance,

For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.

21 et quand alors ils seront atteints par beaucoup de maux et de détresses, que ce cantique dépose contre eux comme un témoin, car il ne doit ni être oublié, ni cesser d'être dans la bouche de leurs descendants. En effet, je connais leurs pensées qu'ils forment dès à présent, avant que je les aie introduits dans le pays que je leur ai promis par serment.

And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.

22 Moïse écrivit donc ce cantique ce jour-là, et il l'apprit aux enfants d'Israël.

Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

23 Et il donna ses instructions à Josué, fils de Nun, en ces termes: Aie courage et fermeté, car c'est toi qui introduiras les enfants d'Israël dans le pays que je leur ai promis par serment, et Moi-même Je serai avec toi.

And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.

24 Et lorsque Moïse eut achevé de transcrire sur un volume les paroles de cette Loi, au complet,

And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,

25 Moïse fit cette injonction aux Lévites, porteurs de l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel:

That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,

26 Prenez ce Volume de la Loi et le placez à côté de l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et qu'il y serve de témoin contre vous.

Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

27 Car je connais ton caractère rebelle, et la roideur de ton col; voici, pendant que je suis encore vivant à vos côtés, déjà vous vous montrez rebelles à l'Éternel: combien plus le serez-vous après ma mort!

For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

28 Assemblez auprès de moi tous les Anciens de vos Tribus, et vos Officiers, afin que je redise à leurs oreilles ces choses-là, et que je prenne à témoin contre eux les Cieux et la terre.

Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.

29 Car je sais qu'après ma mort vous vous perdrez et quitterez la voie que je vous ai tracée, et que les maux fondront sur vous dans les temps à venir, parce que vous ferez ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel pour le provoquer par l'œuvre de vos mains.

For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt [yourselves], and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

30 Moïse prononça donc aux oreilles de toute l'Assemblée d'Israël les paroles de ce cantique dans leur entier:

And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.
