Deutéronome 18

1 Les Prêtres, les Lévites, la Tribu de Lévi entière, n'auront ni portion ni lot au milieu d'Israël: ils jouiront des sacrifices ignés de l'Éternel et de Sa part;

The priests the Levites, [and] all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.

2 ils n'auront aucune propriété parmi leurs frères.

Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD [is] their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

3 L'Éternel est leur lot, comme Il le leur a dit. Et voici ce que les Prêtres ont le droit de réclamer du peuple et de ceux qui sacrifient des victimes, soit gros, soit menu bétail: on donnera au Prêtre l'épaule et les deux mâchoires et le ventricule gras.

And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether [it be] ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

4 Tu leur donneras les prémices de ton froment, de ton moût et de ton huile, et les prémices de la tonte de tes moutons.

The firstfruit [also] of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

5 Car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, l'a choisi entre toutes tes Tribus pour porter présence officiant de par l'Éternel, lui et ses fils à perpétuité.

For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.

6 Et si le Lévite sort de l'une de tes villes où il est domicilié, dans tout Israël, et que suivant tout le désir de son âme il arrive au lieu qu'aura choisi l'Éternel,

And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;

7 et y officie de par l'Éternel, son Dieu, ainsi que tous ses frères les Lévites présents pour servir l'Éternel,

Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites [do], which stand there before the LORD.

8 ils jouiront de portions égales, outre ce qu'ils peuvent vendre de leur patrimoine.

They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

9 Lorsque tu seras entré dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne, tu n'apprendras pas à imiter les abominations de ces nations-là.

When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

10 Qu'on ne trouve chez toi personne qui fasse passer par le feu son fils ou sa fille, qui pratique la divination, les maléfices, les enchantements et les conjurations,

There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

11 personne qui fasse des nœuds magiques, évoque les morts, se livre aux sciences occultes, interroge les trépassés.

Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 Car quiconque fait ces choses est l'abomination de l'Éternel, et c'est à cause de cette abomination-là que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, va les chasser devant toi.

For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

13 C'est sans partage que tu dois appartenir à l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

14 Car ces nations que tu vas expulser, écoutent les enchanteurs et les devins; mais à toi, l'Éternel, ton Dieu, ne le permet pas.

For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so [to do].

15 C'est un prophète de ton sein, d'entre tes frères, semblable à moi que te suscitera l'Éternel, ton Dieu, c'est Lui que vous écouterez;

The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

16 ainsi que tu l'as demandé à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, en Horeb, le jour de l'Assemblée, lorsque tu dis: Désormais je ne veux plus entendre la voix de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, ni voir ce grand feu, afin de ne pas mourir.

According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

17 Et l'Éternel me dit: Ce qu'ils ont dit est bien;

And the LORD said unto me, They have well [spoken that] which they have spoken.

18 je leur susciterai un prophète du sein de leurs frères, semblable à toi, et je mettrai mes paroles en sa bouche, et il leur dira tout ce dont je le chargerai.

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

19 Et à quiconque n'écoutera pas mes paroles qu'il prononcera en mon nom, je lui en demanderai compte.

And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him.

20 Mais le prophète qui aura l'audace de dire en mon nom ce que je ne lui aurai point commandé de dire, et celui qui parlera au nom de dieux étrangers, ce prophète mourra.

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

21 Et si tu dis en ton cœur: A quoi reconnaîtrons-nous la parole que l'Éternel n'aura point prononcée?…

And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

22 ce que dira ce prophète au nom de l'Éternel et qui n'aura pas lieu, et ne s'accomplira pas, telle sera la parole que l'Éternel n'aura pas dite; le prophète l'a dite par audace: n'aie pas peur de lui.

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
