Actes 8
1 Or Saul avait pris plaisir à son supplice. Or, ce jour-là, une grande persécution fut dirigée contre l'église qui était à Jérusalem; mais tous se dispersèrent dans les contrées de la Judée et de la Samarie, sauf les apôtres.
Saul had pleasure in his deeth. And at yt tyme there was a great persecucion agaynst the congregacion which was at Ierusalem and they were all scattered abroade thorowout the regions of Iury and Samaria except the Apostles
2 Toutefois des hommes pieux enterrèrent Etienne et le pleurèrent bruyamment.
Then devout men dressed Steven aud made great lamentacion over him.
3 Saul, de son côté, ravageait l'église; envahissant les maisons, il en arrachait hommes et femmes et les livrait pour être jetés en prison.
But Saul made havocke of the congregacion entrynge into every housse and drewe out bothe man and woman and thrust the into preson.
4 Ceux donc qui s'étaient dispersés s'en allèrent de côté et d'autre annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la parole.
They that were scattered abroade went every where preachyng the worde.
5 Or Philippe, étant venu dans la ville de Samarie, leur prêchait le Christ.
Then came Philip into a cite of Samaria and preached Christ vnto them.
6 La foule s'accordait à prêter attention à ce que disait Philippe, parce qu'elle entendait parler et était témoin des miracles qu'il faisait;
And the people gave hede vnto those thinges which Philip spake with one acorde in that they hearde and sawe the miracles which he dyd.
7 en effet les esprits impurs sortirent de plusieurs de ceux qui en étaient possédés, en poussant de grands cris, tandis que plusieurs paralytiques et impotents furent guéris.
For vnclene spretes cryinge with loude voyce came out of many that were possessed of them. And manye taken with palsies and many yt halted were healed
8 Et ce fut une grande joie dans cette ville.
And ther was great ioye in that cite.
9 Mais un homme nommé Simon, qui déjà auparavant habitait la ville, y exerçait la magie et tenait sous le charme la nation des Samaritains, en se disant un grand personnage.
And ther was a certayne man called Simon which before tyme in the same cite vsed witche crafte and bewitched the people of Samarie sayinge that he was a man yt coulde do greate thinges
10 Tous, du petit au grand, lui prêtaient attention, et disaient: « Celui-ci est la puissance de Dieu, qui est appelée grande. »
Whom they regarded from ye lest to the greatest sayinge: this felow is the great power of God.
11 Et ils lui prêtaient attention, parce que pendant longtemps il les avait tenus sous le charme par ses sortilèges.
And him they set moche by because of longe tyme with sorcery he had mocked the.
12 Mais quand ils eurent cru Philippe, qui leur annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu et du nom de Jésus-Christ, hommes et femmes se faisaient baptiser.
But assone as they beleved Philippes preachynge of the kyngdome of God and of the name of Iesu Christ they were baptised bothe men and wemen.
13 Or Simon lui-même crut aussi, et après avoir été baptisé il s'attacha à Philippe; la vue des miracles et des grands prodiges qui s'opéraient le tenait sous le charme.
Then Simon him selfe beleved also and was baptised and cotinued with Phillip and wondered beholdynge the miracles and signes which were shewed.
14 Or, les apôtres qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie accueillait la parole de Dieu, leur envoyèrent Pierre et Jean,
When ye Apostles which were at Ierusalem hearde saye that Samaria had receaved ye worde of God: they sent vnto the Peter and Iohn
15 qui, lorsqu'ils furent arrivés, prièrent pour eux, afin qu'ils reçussent l'esprit saint;
which when they were come prayed for the that they myght receave ye holy goost
16 car il n'était encore tombé sur aucun d'eux, mais ils avaient seulement été baptisés au nom du seigneur Jésus;
For as yet he was come on none of them: But they were baptised only in the name of Christ Iesu.
17 alors ils leur imposèrent les mains et ils recevaient l'esprit saint.
Then layde they their hondes on them and they receaved the holy goost.
18 Or Simon, ayant vu que l'esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, leur offrit de l'argent en disant:
When Simo sawe that thorowe layinge on of the Apostles hondes on them the holy goost was geven: he offered the money
19 « Octroyez-moi aussi cette autorité, afin que celui à qui j'aurai imposé les mains reçoive l'esprit saint. »
sayinge: Geve me also this power that on whom soever I put the hondes he maye receave the holy goost.
20 Mais Pierre lui dit: « Que ton argent périsse avec toi, puisque tu as cru acquérir le don de Dieu avec de l'argent;
Then sayde Peter vnto him: thy monye perysh with the because thou wenest that the gifte of God maye be obteyned wt money.
21 il n'y a pour toi ni portion ni lot dans cette affaire, car ton cœur n'est pas droit devant Dieu;
Thou hast nether parte nor felloushippe in this busines. For thy hert is not ryght in the syght of God.
22 repens-toi donc de ta méchanceté dont tu viens de faire preuve, et prie le Seigneur, pour voir si le projet de ton cœur te sera pardonné;
Repent therfore of this thy wickednes and praye God that ye thought of thyne hert maye be forgeven the.
23 car je vois que tu te trouves dans du fiel amer et dans les nœuds de l'injustice. »
For I perceave that thou arte full of bitter gall and wrapped in iniquite.
24 Et Simon répliqua: « Priez vous-mêmes pour moi le Seigneur, afin que rien de ce dont vous avez parlé ne m'arrive. »
Then answered Simon and sayde: Praye ye to the lorde for me yt none of these thinges whiche ye have spoken fall on me.
25 Pour eux donc, après avoir rendu témoignage et proclamé la parole du Seigneur, ils revinrent à Jérusalem, et ils annoncèrent la bonne nouvelle dans plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
And they whe they had testified and preached the worde of the lorde returned toward Ierusalem and preached the gospell in many cities of the Samaritas.
26 Or, un ange du Seigneur s'adressa à Philippe en disant: « Lève-toi, et va du côté du midi sur la route qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza; elle est déserte. »
Then the angell of the lorde spake vnto Phillip sayinge: aryse and goo towardes mydde daye vnto ye waye yt goeth doune fro Ierusalem vnto Gaza which is in ye desert.
27 Et s'étant levé il se mit en chemin; et voici, un Éthiopien, principal eunuque de Candace, reine des Éthiopiens, et qui était son trésorier général, était venu à Jérusalem pour adorer.
And he arose and wet on. And beholde a man of Ethiopia which was a chaberlayne and of grete auctorite wt Cadace quene of ye Ethiopias and had ye rule of all her treasure came to Ierusalem for to praye.
28 Or il s'en retournait, et, assis sur son char, il lisait le prophète Ésaïe;
And as he returned home agayne sittynge in his charet he rede Esay ye prophet
29 or l'Esprit dit à Philippe: « Approche-toi et tiens-toi collé à ce char. »
Then ye sprete sayde vnto Phillip: Goo neare and ioyne thy selfe to yonder charet.
30 Et Philippe étant accouru l'entendit qui lisait Ésaïe le prophète, et il dit: « Est-ce que tu comprends bien ce que tu lis? »
And Philip ranne to him and hearde him rede ye prophet Esayas and sayde: Vnderstondest thou what thou redest?
31 Mais l'autre dit: « Eh, comment le pourrais-je, si personne ne me guide? » Et il invita Philippe à monter et à s'asseoir à côté de lui.
And he sayd: how can I except I had a gyde? And he desyred Philip that he wold come vp and sit wt him.
32 Or voici quel était le contenu du texte qu'il lisait: « C'est comme une brebis qu'il a été conduit à la tuerie; et, de même qu'un agneau est muet devant celui qui le tond, de même il n'ouvre point la bouche;
The tenoure of ye scripture which he redde was this. He was ledde as a shepe to be slayne: and lyke a lambe dome before his sherer so opened he not his mouth.
33 c'est dans l'humiliation que s'est consommé son jugement. Qui dépeindra les hommes de sa génération? Car sa vie est enlevée de dessus la terre. »
Because of his humblenes he was not estemed: who shall declare his generacio? for his lyfe is taken fro the erthe.
34 L'eunuque s'adressant à Philippe: « Je te prie, dit-il, de qui le prophète parle-t-il ainsi? Est-ce de lui-même, ou de quelque autre? »
The chamberlayne answered Philip and sayde: I praye the of whom speaketh the Prophet this? of him selfe or of some other man?
35 Là-dessus Philippe, ouvrant la bouche et commençant par ce texte-là, lui annonça la bonne nouvelle de Jésus.
And Philip opened his mouth and beganne at ye same scripture and preached vnto him Iesus.
36 Or, comme ils cheminaient le long de la route, ils arrivèrent vers de l'eau, et l'eunuque dit: « Voici de l'eau; qu'est-ce qui empêche que je ne sois baptisé? »
And as they went on their waye they came vnto a certayne water and the chamberlayne sayde: Se here is water what shall let me to be baptised?
37 Et il fit arrêter son char, et ils descendirent l'un et l'autre dans l'eau, Philippe et l'eunuque, et il le baptisa.
Philip sayde vnto him: Yf thou beleve with all thyne hert thou mayst. He answered and sayde: I beleve that Iesus Christe is the sonne of God.
38 Mais, quand ils furent ressortis de l'eau, l'esprit du Seigneur enleva Philippe, et l'eunuque ne le vit plus,
And he comaunded the charet to stonde still. And they went doune bothe into the water: bothe Philip and also the chamberlayne and he baptised him.
39 car tandis qu'il continuait sa route plein de joie,
And assone as they were come out of the water the sprete of the lorde caught awaye Philip yt the chamberlayne sawe him no moore. And he wet on his waye reioysinge:
40 Philippe se trouva dans Azot. Et il s'en allait de côté et d'autre, évangélisant toutes les villes jusques à ce qu'il arrivât à Césarée.
but Philip was founde at Azotus. And he walked thorow out ye countre preachynge in their cities tyll he came to Cesarea.
