2 Rois 14
1 La deuxième année de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël, Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, devint roi.
In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.
2 Il avait vingt-cinq ans à son avènement et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Or, le nom de sa mère était Joadan de Jérusalem.
He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name [was] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3 Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, toutefois pas à l'égal de David, son père: il agit entièrement comme avait agi Joas, son père.
And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
4 Seulement les tertres ne disparurent pas; le peuple offrait encore des victimes et de l'encens sur les tertres.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
5 Et lorsque la royauté fut affermie dans sa main, il fit main basse sur ceux de ses serviteurs qui avaient fait main basse sur le roi, son père;
And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6 mais les fils des meurtriers, il ne les mit pas à mort, aux termes du livre de la Loi de Moïse et de ce que l'Éternel avait prescrit en disant: Les pères ne subiront pas la mort pour les fils, ni les fils pour les pères, mais chacun subira la mort pour son péché.
But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7 Il battit les Edomites dans la Vallée du sel, dix mille hommes, et prit Séla dans la guerre et l'appela du nom de Jockthéel qu'elle porte encore aujourd'hui.
He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
8 C'est alors qu'Amatsia envoya des messagers à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël, pour dire: Viens! il faut que nous nous voyions en face.
Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9 Alors Joas, roi d'Israël, députa vers Amatsia, roi de Juda, avec cette réponse: L'épine du Liban fit-porter au Cèdre du Liban ce message: Donne ta fille en mariage à mon fils. Alors les bêtes sauvages du Liban passèrent sur l'épine et l'écrasèrent.
And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that [was] in Lebanon sent to the cedar that [was] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that [was] in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
10 Tu as bien battu les Edomites, et ton cœur t'a exalté: sois glorieux! mais reste chez toi! Pourquoi veux-tu te mettre aux prises avec le malheur pour succomber, toi et Juda avec toi?
Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory [of this], and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, [even] thou, and Judah with thee?
11 Mais Amatsia n'écouta point, et Joas, roi d'Israël, s'avança, et ils se trouvèrent en présence, lui et Amatsia, roi de Juda, à Bethsémès, qui est à Juda.
But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which [belongeth] to Judah.
12 Mais Juda fut défait par Israël, et chacun s'enfuit dans sa tente:
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
13 et Amatsia, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d'Achazia, fut fait prisonnier à Bethsémès par Joas, roi d'Israël, qui vint à Jérusalem et fit une brèche au mur de Jérusalem à la porte d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'angle, espace de quatre cents coudées,
And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14 et il enleva la totalité de l'or et de l'argent et la totalité de la vaisselle, qui se trouva dans le temple de l'Éternel et dans les trésors du palais royal, et les otages et regagna Samarie.
And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 Le reste des actes de Joas, ses entreprises et ses exploits et la guerre qu'il soutint contre Amatsia, roi de Juda, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d'Israël.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16 Et Joas reposa avec ses pères et reçut la sépulture à Samarie à côté des rois d'Israël, et Jéroboam, son fils, devint roi en sa place.
And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17 Et Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, survécut quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël.
And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18 Le reste des actes d'Amatsia est d'ailleurs consigné dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
19 Et l'on forma contre lui une conjuration dans Jérusalem, et il s'enfuit à Lachis et ils firent courir après lui à Lachis, et lui donnèrent la mort là.
Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
20 Et on le chargea sur les chevaux, et il reçut la sépulture dans Jérusalem à côté de ses pères dans la ville de David.
And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21 Alors tout le peuple de Juda prit Azaria, lequel avait seize ans, et l'établit roi en la place de son père, Amatsia.
And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which [was] sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22 C'est lui qui rebâtit Élath, l'ayant reconquise à Juda, après que le roi fut couché à côté de ses pères.
He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
23 La quinzième année d'Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d'Israël, devint roi à Samarie pour quarante-un ans.
In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, [and reigned] forty and one years.
24 Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel; il ne se départit d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qui avait entraîné Israël à pécher.
And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25 Il rétablit les frontières d'Israël à partir de Hamath jusqu'à la Mer de la Plaine, selon la parole de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, qu'il avait prononcée par l'organe de son serviteur Jonas, fils d'Amittaï, le prophète, originaire de Gath-Hépher.
He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which [was] of Gath-hepher.
26 Car l'Éternel voyait la misère d'Israël, bien rebelle tout y étant à bout, mineurs et émancipés, et nul ne délivrant Israël;
For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, [that it was] very bitter: for [there was] not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27 et l'Éternel n'avait point parlé d'effacer le nom d'Israël de dessous les cieux, et Il leur vint en aide par le moyen de Jéroboam, fils de Joas.
And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Le reste des actes de Jéroboam et toutes ses entreprises et ses exploits, ses guerres, et le recouvrement de Damas et de Hamath, [jadis] à Juda, par Israël, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d'Israël.
Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, [which belonged] to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29 Et Jéroboam reposa avec ses pères, avec les rois d'Israël, et Zacharie, son fils, devint roi en sa place.
And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, [even] with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
