2 Chroniques 28

1 Achaz avait vingt ans à son avènement et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Et il ne fit pas ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel, comme David, son père,

Ahaz [was] twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:

2 et il marcha sur les errements des rois d'Israël, et il fit aussi des images de fonte aux Baals,

For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.

3 et il offrit de l'encens dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom et brûla ses fils au feu, imitant les abominations des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.

Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

4 Et il offrit des victimes et de l'encens sur les tertres et sur les collines et sous tous les arbres verts.

He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Alors l'Éternel, son Dieu, le livra aux mains du roi de Syrie, et [les Syriens] le battirent et lui firent beaucoup de prisonniers qu'ils menèrent à Damas; il fut aussi livré aux mains du roi d'Israël qui lui fit essuyer une grande défaite.

Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought [them] to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

6 Et Pékach, fils de Remalia, tua en Juda dans une journée cent vingt mille hommes, tous braves guerriers, parce qu'ils abandonnaient l'Éternel, Dieu de leurs pères.

For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, [which were] all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.

7 Et Zichri, héros d'Éphraïm, tua Maaseïa, fils du roi, et Azricam, préfet du palais, et Elkana, le second après le roi.

And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah [that was] next to the king.

8 Et les Israélites emmenèrent en captivité, de leurs frères, deux cent mille femmes, fils et filles, et ils leur enlevèrent aussi un grand butin qu'ils amenèrent à Samarie.

And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

9 Or il y avait là un prophète de l'Éternel, nommé Oded, et il sortit à la rencontre de l'armée qui rentrait à Samarie et il leur dit: Voilà que dans sa colère contre Juda l'Éternel, Dieu de vos pères, les a livrés entre vos mains, et dans la fureur vous en avez fait un tel carnage, qu'il est parvenu jusqu'aux Cieux.

But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name [was] Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage [that] reacheth up unto heaven.

10 Et maintenant pensez-vous vous assujettir comme serviteurs et servantes les enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem? mais vous, en votre particulier, ne vous sentez-vous pas coupables envers l'Éternel, votre Dieu?…

And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: [but are there] not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?

11 Écoutez-moi donc et renvoyez les prisonniers que vous avez faits sur vos frères; car la colère de l'Éternel est allumée sur vous.

Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD [is] upon you.

12 Alors se levèrent des hommes d'entre les chefs des fils d'Éphraïm, Azaria, fils de Jochanan, Béréchia, fils de Mesillemoth, et Ézéchias, fils de Sallum, et Amasa, fils de Hadlaï, pour s'opposer à ceux qui venaient de l'armée

Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

13 et ils leur dirent: N'introduisez pas ces prisonniers-là! pensez-vous en effet, pour nous attirer la vindicte de l'Éternel, augmenter encore nos péchés et notre culpabilité? car notre culpabilité est grande et la colère est allumée sur Israël!

And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD [already], ye intend to add [more] to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and [there is] fierce wrath against Israel.

14 Alors la troupe armée laissa les prisonniers et le butin devant les chefs et toute l'Assemblée.

So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.

15 Et les hommes, qui ont été désignés par leurs noms, se levèrent et s'emparèrent des prisonniers, et vêtirent tous ceux d'entre eux qui étaient nus, en prenant sur le butin, ils les vêtirent et les chaussèrent et leur donnèrent à manger et à boire, et les oignirent et les reconduisirent, sur des ânes tous les excédés, et les amenèrent à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers, chez leurs frères, puis-regagnèrent Samarie.

And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.

16 Dans ce temps-là le roi Achaz députa vers les rois d'Assyrie pour se ménager leur secours.

At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

17 Et vinrent encore les Edomites qui firent un coup en Juda et emmenèrent des captifs.

For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

18 Et il y eut invasion des Philistins dans les villes du pays-bas et du midi de Juda, et ils s'emparèrent de Bethsémès et d'Ajalon et de Gedéroth et de Socho et de ses annexes et de Thimna et de ses annexes, et de Gimzo et de ses annexes, et s'y établirent.

The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.

19 Car l'Éternel humiliait Juda à cause d'Achaz, roi d'Israël, parce qu'il laissait Juda sans frein et qu'il était rebelle à l'Éternel.

For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.

20 Et il fut assailli par Thiglath-Pilnéser, roi d'Assyrie, qui le serra de près, loin de lui prêter secours.

And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

21 Bien que Achaz eût dépouillé le Temple de l'Éternel et le palais du roi et des Grands pour payer le roi d'Assyrie, cela ne lui servit de rien.

For Ahaz took away a portion [out] of the house of the LORD, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave [it] unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.

22 Et dans le moment de la détresse il fut encore plus infidèle à l'Éternel, lui, le roi Achaz.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this [is that] king Ahaz.

23 Et il fit des sacrifices aux dieux de Damas qui l'avaient battu et il dit: Les dieux des rois de Syrie leur sont secourables, je veux leur faire des sacrifices afin qu'ils me soient secourables. Mais ils servirent à amener la chute de lui et de tout Israël.

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, [therefore] will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

24 Et Achaz ramassa toute la vaisselle de la Maison de Dieu et mit en pièces la vaisselle de la Maison de Dieu, et il ferma les portes du Temple de l'Éternel et se fit des autels à tous les coins de Jérusalem.

And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

25 Et dans toutes les villes de Juda il fit des tertres pour brûler de l'encens aux autres dieux; et il provoqua l'Éternel, Dieu de ses pères.

And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.

26 Le reste de ses actes et tous ses errements, les premiers et les derniers, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.

Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they [are] written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

27 Et Achaz reposa à côté de ses pères et reçut la sépulture dans la ville de Jérusalem; car on ne l'introduisit pas dans les tombeaux des rois d'Israël. Et Ezéchias, son fils, devint roi en sa place.

And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, [even] in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
