2 Chroniques 26

1 Alors tout le peuple de Juda prit Hozias, alors âgé de seize ans, et le fit roi en la place de son père, Amatsia.

Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who [was] sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

2 Il rebâtit Eloth et la reconquit à Juda, après que le roi eut été couché à côté de ses pères.

He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

3 Hozias avait seize ans à son avènement et il régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Jecholia de Jérusalem.

Sixteen years old [was] Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also [was] Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

4 Et il fit ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel en tout à l'exemple d'Amatsia, son père.

And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.

5 Et il fut cherchant Dieu du vivant de Zacharie, l'homme versé dans la contemplation de Dieu, et durant les jours où il chercha l'Éternel, Dieu le fit prospérer.

And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

6 Et il se mit en campagne et se battit contre les Philistins, et il renversa les murs de Gath et les murs de Jabné et les murs d'Asdod, et bâtit des villes en Asdod et parmi les Philistins.

And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

7 Et Dieu lui fut en aide contre les Philistins et contre les Arabes établis à Gurbaal, et les Meünites.

And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.

8 Et les Ammonites firent des présents à Hozias, et son nom parvint jusqu'en Egypte; car il était extrêmement puissant.

And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad [even] to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened [himself] exceedingly.

9 Et Hozias construisit des tours à Jérusalem à la porte de l'angle et à la porte de la vallée, et au redan, et les mit en état de défense.

Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning [of the wall], and fortified them.

10 Et il bâtit des tours dans le Désert, et creusa une multitude de citernes, car il avait de nombreux troupeaux et dans le pays-bas et dans la plaine, des laboureurs et des vignerons sur les monts et au Carmel, car il aimait l'agriculture.

Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen [also], and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.

11 Et Hozias avait une force armée propre à la guerre, qui allait en campagne par bataillons, d'après le chiffre de leur recensement fait par Jehiel, le Scribe, et Maaseïa, le préposé, sous les ordres de Hanania, l'un des généraux du roi.

Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, [one] of the king’s captains.

12 Le nombre total des patriarches des guerriers était de deux mille six cents.

The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour [were] two thousand and six hundred.

13 Et la milice sous leurs ordres était de trois cent sept mille cinq cents hommes faisant la guerre avec une force vaillante pour aider le roi contre l'ennemi.

And under their hand [was] an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

14 Et Hozias leur procura, à toute l'armée, des boucliers et des lances et des casques et des cuirasses et des arcs et jusqu'à des pierres à fronde.

And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings [to cast] stones.

15 Et il fit à Jérusalem des engins, ingénieux travail des ingénieurs, pour être placés sur les tours et aux redans pour tirer avec des flèches et de grosses pierres. Et son nom se répandit au loin, car il fut aidé merveilleusement à devenir puissant.

And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

16 Mais quand il fut puissant, son cœur s'éleva, pour sa perte; et il fut infidèle à l'Éternel, son Dieu; et il pénétra dans le Temple de l'Éternel pour encenser sur l'autel aux parfums.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to [his] destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17 Alors il y fut suivi par le Prêtre Azaria accompagné de Prêtres de l'Éternel au nombre de quatre-vingts hommes de cœur,

And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, [that were] valiant men:

18 et ils s'opposèrent à Hozias, le roi, et lui dirent: Ce n'est pas à toi, Hozias, à offrir l'encens à l'Éternel, mais aux Prêtres, fils d'Aaron, qui sont consacrés pour l'encensement. Sors du sanctuaire, car tu forfais! et cet honneur ne t'a pas été décerné par l'Éternel, Dieu.

And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, [It appertaineth] not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither [shall it be] for thine honour from the LORD God.

19 Alors Hozias se courrouça, et il avait en main un encensoir pour encenser; et comme il se courrouçait contre les Prêtres, la lèpre éclata sur son front à la vue des Prêtres dans le Temple de l'Éternel à côté de l'autel aux parfums.

Then Uzziah was wroth, and [had] a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.

20 Et lorsque le Grand-Prêtre Azaria et tous les Prêtres arrêtèrent leurs regards sur lui, voilà qu'il avait la lèpre au front; et ils le chassèrent de là, et lui-même se hâta de sortir parce que l'Éternel l'avait frappé.

And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he [was] leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.

21 Et le roi Hozias fut lépreux jusqu'au jour de sa mort, et il logea dans une infirmerie en tant que lépreux: car il était exclu du Temple de l'Éternel. Et Jotham, son fils, fut préposé sur la maison du roi, et gouverna le peuple du pays.

And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, [being] a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son [was] over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

22 Le reste des actes d'Hozias, les premiers et les derniers, Ésaïe, fils d'Amots, le prophète, en a écrit l'histoire.

Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

23 Et Hozias reposa à côté de ses pères, et reçut la sépulture à côté de ses pères dans le champ sépulcral des rois; car l'on dit: Il est lépreux. Et Jotham, son fils, devint roi en sa place.

So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which [belonged] to the kings; for they said, He [is] a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
