1 Samuel 3

1 Or le jeune Samuel faisait son service devant l'Éternel sous les yeux d'Eli. Et la parole de l'Éternel était rare en ce temps-là; les visions n'étaient pas fréquentes.

And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; [there was] no open vision.

2 Et comme dans ce temps Eli était alité en son lieu, (or ses yeux commençaient à être ternes, il ne pouvait voir),

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli [was] laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, [that] he could not see;

3 la lampe de Dieu n'était pas encore éteinte, et Samuel était couché dans le Temple de l'Éternel, place de l'Arche de Dieu;

And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God [was], and Samuel was laid down [to sleep; ]

4 alors l'Éternel appela Samuel. Et il répondit: Me voici!

That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here [am] I.

5 Puis il courut vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Et Eli dit: Je ne t'ai pas appelé; retourne et te couche. Et il alla et se coucha.

And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

6 Et derechef l'Éternel appela encore Samuel. Et Samuel se leva et alla vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Et Eli dit: Je ne t'ai point appelé, mon fils; retourne et te couche.

And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

7 Or Samuel ne connaissait pas encore l'Éternel, et la parole de l'Éternel ne lui avait pas encore été révélée.

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

8 Et de nouveau l'Éternel appela Samuel pour la troisième fois. Et Samuel se leva et alla vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Alors Eli comprit que l'Éternel appelait l'enfant,

And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

9 et Eli dit à Samuel: Va et te couche, et si l'on t'appelle, tu diras: Parle, Éternel, car ton serviteur écoute. Et Samuel alla et se coucha en son lieu.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 Alors l'Éternel vint et se présenta et appela cette fois comme les autres fois: Samuel! Samuel! Et Samuel dit: Parle, car ton serviteur écoute.

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

11 Et l'Éternel dit à Samuel: Voici, je vais opérer en Israël une chose telle, que à quiconque l'apprendra, les deux oreilles lui retentiront.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12 En ce jour-là j'accomplirai sur Eli tout ce que j'ai prononcé; je commencerai et j'achèverai.

In that day I will perform against Eli all [things] which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13 Car je lui ai annoncé que je condamne sa maison à perpétuité parcequ'il a été criminel en ce que sachant que ses fils attiraient sur Dieu le mépris, il ne les a pas contenus.

For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

14 Dès-là je fais à la maison d'Eli ce serment: Le crime de la maison d'Eli ne sera expié ni par victime, ni par offrande en aucun temps.

And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

15 Et Samuel fut couché jusqu'au matin; alors il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Éternel. Mais Samuel craignait de raconter la vision à Eli.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

16 Cependant Eli appela Samuel et dit: Samuel, mon fils! Et il répondit: Me voici!

Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here [am] I.

17 Et Eli dit: Quelle est la parole qu'Il t'a adressée? Ne me cèle rien! Que Dieu te le rende et plus encore, si tu me caches rien de tout ce qu'Il t'a dit!

And he said, What [is] the thing that [the Lord] hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide [it] not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide [any] thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

18 Alors Samuel lui rapporta tous les détails, sans lui rien celer. Et Eli dit: C'est l'Éternel! qu'il fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!

And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

19 Et Samuel grandissait et l'Éternel était avec lui, et ne laissait tomber à terre aucune de ses paroles.

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

20 Et de Dan à Béerséba tout Israël reconnut que Samuel était accrédité comme prophète.

And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel [was] established [to be] a prophet of the LORD.

21 Et l'Éternel continua d'apparaître à Silo par la parole de l'Éternel; car l'Éternel se révélait à Samuel à Silo par la parole de l'Éternel. Et la parole de Samuel s'étendait à tout Israël.

And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
