1 Et lorsque Salomon eut terminé la construction de la Maison de l'Éternel, et du palais royal et de tous les lieux de plaisance de Salomon qu'il désirait élever,

It happened, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,

2 l'Éternel apparut à Salomon une seconde fois, comme Il lui était apparu à Gabaon.

that the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

3 Et l'Éternel lui dit: J'ai ouï ta prière et ta supplication, par laquelle tu m'as imploré, j'ai consacré cette Maison que tu as édifiée, afin d'y mettre mon Nom pour l'éternité, et mes yeux et mon cœur y seront dans tous les temps.

And the LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your petition that you have made before me. I have done for you according to all your prayer. I have consecrated this house which you have built, to place my name there forever, and my eyes and my heart will be there perpetually.

4 Quant à toi, si tu marches en ma présence comme David, ton père, a marché, avec l'intégrité du cœur et la droiture pour te conformer à tout ce que je t'ai prescrit, observant mes statuts et mes lois,

As for you, if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances;

5 je maintiendrai éternellement le trône de ta royauté sur Israël, ainsi que je l'ai promis à David, ton père, en ces termes: Tu n'auras jamais faute d'un homme pour occuper le trône d'Israël.

then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, according as I promised to David your father, saying, 'There shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.'

6 Mais si vous et vos fils vous faites défection contre moi, et ne gardez pas mes commandements, mes statuts que j'ai mis en face de vous, et si vous vous en allez servir d'autres dieux et les adorer,

But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

7 j'arracherai Israël du sol que je lui ai donné, et, la Maison que j'ai consacrée à mon Nom, je l'ôterai de ma présence, et Israël deviendra la fable et l'objet des sarcasmes de tous les peuples.

then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

8 Quant à cette Maison, quelle qu'en soit l'éminence, quiconque passera près d'elle, frissonnera et frémira, et l'on dira: Pourquoi l'Éternel a-t-Il ainsi traité ce pays et cette Maison?

And this house, which is exalted, will become a heap of ruins. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and will whistle, and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?'

9 et il sera répondu: Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'Éternel, leur Dieu, qui avait retiré leurs pères du pays d'Egypte, et se sont attachés à d'autres dieux, qu'ils ont adorés et servis; c'est pourquoi l'Éternel a fait fondre sur eux tout ce désastre.

And they shall answer, 'Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold of other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this disaster on them.'"

10 Et au bout de vingt ans, lorsque Salomon eut construit les deux édifices, le Temple de l'Éternel et le palais royal,

It happened at the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king's house

11 (Hiram, roi de Tyr, avait fait au Roi l'avance de bois de cèdre et de cyprès, et d'or, en tout selon son gré) alors le Roi Salomon céda à Hiram vingt villes au pays de Galilée.

(now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

12 Et Hiram partit de Tyr pour examiner les villes que lui donnait Salomon, mais elles ne furent point selon son gré. Et il dit: Qu'est-ce que ces villes que tu me donnes là, mon frère?

Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they did not please him.

13 Et il les appela de leur nom d'aujourd'hui, pays de Cabul.

He said, "What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?" He called them the land of Cabul to this day.

14 Et Hiram avait envoyé au Roi cent vingt talents d'or.

Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

15 Et voici le mode de la corvée dont le Roi Salomon fit la levée pour construire le Temple de l'Éternel et son palais et la redoute, et le mur de Jérusalem, et Hatsor et Megiddo et Gazer.

This is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

16 Pharaon, Roi d'Egypte, était monté, et s'était emparé de Gazer, et l'avait incendiée, et il avait massacré les Cananéens qui habitaient la ville, et il l'avait donnée en dot à sa fille, femme de Salomon.

Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a portion to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

17 Et Salomon rebâtit Gazer et Beth-Horon la basse

Solomon built Gezer, and Lower Beth Horon,

18 et Baalath et Thadmor au désert dans le pays

and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land,

19 et toutes les villes d'approvisionnement appartenant à Salomon, et les villes des chars et les villes de la cavalerie, et les maisons de plaisance de Salomon qu'il se plut à bâtir à Jérusalem et au Liban, et dans tout le territoire de son royaume.

and all the storage cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

20 Toute la population restée des Amoréens, Héthiens, Périzzites, Hévites et Jébusites, ne faisant point partie des enfants d'Israël,

As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hethites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel;

21 c'est-à-dire leurs descendants restés après eux dans le pays, les enfants d'Israël n'ayant pu exécuter sur eux l'anathème, Salomon les leva comme serfs de corvée, ce qu'ils sont aujourd'hui.

their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them Solomon conscripted for slave labor to this day.

22 Mais des enfants d'Israël Salomon ne fit point de serfs; car ils furent ses hommes de guerre et ses officiers et ses généraux, et ses triaires, et les chefs de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.

But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his commanders, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

23 Chefs préposés sur les travaux de Salomon: cinq cent cinquante, commandant la population occupée aux travaux.

These were the chief officers who were over Solomon's work, five hundred fifty, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work.

24 Aussitôt que la fille de Pharaon fut montée de la Cité de David dans la maison qu'il lui avait bâtie, ce fut alors que Salomon bâtit la redoute.

But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the City of David to her house which Solomon had built for her: then he built Millo.

25 Et trois fois par année Salomon offrait des holocaustes, et des sacrifices pacifiques sur l'Autel qu'il avait élevé à l'Éternel, et il brûlait en personne l'encens devant l'Éternel. Il acheva donc la Maison.

Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the LORD three times a year, burning incense with them, on the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

26 Et le Roi Salomon construisit une flotte à Etseion-Géber, située près d'Élath, au bord de la Mer aux algues, dans le pays d'Édom.

King Solomon also had a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Eilat on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

27 Et Hiram envoya par un navire ses serviteurs, hommes de mer connaissant la marine, avec les serviteurs de Salomon.

Hiram sent in the navy his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

28 Et ils gagnèrent Ophir d'où ils rapportèrent de l'or, quatre cent vingt talents qu'ils présentèrent au Roi Salomon.

They came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
