1 Chroniques 22

1 Et David dit: C'est ici que doit être le Temple de l'Éternel, Dieu, et ici l'autel pour les holocaustes d'Israël.

Then David said, “Here, [at the edge of Jerusalem, ] is where [we will build] the temple for our God Yahweh, and where [we will make] the altar for burning the offerings that the Israeli [people will bring].”

2 Et David dit de ramasser les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël; et il désigna des tailleurs de pierre pour tailler les carrés de pierres en vue de la bâtisse du Temple de Dieu.

So David commanded that the foreigners who lived in Israel must gather together. [When they did that, ] he appointed [some of those] men to [cut huge] stones [from the quarries] and to smooth their surfaces, to be used to build the temple of God.

3 Et David avait préparé du fer en masse pour les clous des battants des portes et les crampons, et une quantité incalculable d'airain

David provided a large amount of iron for making nails and hinges for the doors in the gates of the temple. He also provided so much bronze [for making the altar and various utensils], that no one could weigh it all.

4 et des pièces de cèdre sans nombre; car les Sidoniens et les Tyriens avaient amené à David du bois de cèdre en masse.

He also provided [money for buying] a large amount of cedar logs. Because there was a huge number of them, no one was able to count them. Those were logs that men from Tyre and Sidon [cities] sent to David.

5 Car David disait: Salomon, mon fils, est enfant et dans l'âge tendre; or il s'agit de bâtir à l'Éternel un temple majestueux, élevé, qui ait un nom et du lustre en tout pays; je veux donc faire pour lui les apprêts. C'est pourquoi David fit des préparatifs immenses avant de mourir.

David [provided all those things because he] thought, “My son Solomon is still young and he does not know what he needs to know [about building], and the temple of Yahweh must be (magnificent/very beautiful). It must be a glorious building that will become famous, and people throughout the world must consider it to be glorious/splendid. So now I will begin to prepare for it to be built, [and Solomon will be responsible for building it].” So David collected a great amount of building materials before he died.

6 Et il manda Salomon, son fils, et lui ordonna de construire un Temple à l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël.

[When] David [was old, he] summoned his son Solomon, and told him that he should arrange for a temple to be built for Yahweh, the God whom the Israelis [worshiped].

7 Et David dit à Salomon: Mon fils, je pensais à élever un Temple au Nom de l'Éternel, mon Dieu.

He said to him, “I wanted [IDM] to build a temple to honor [MTY] Yahweh, my God.

8 Mais la parole de l'Éternel m'a été adressée en ces termes: Tu as versé beaucoup de sang et fait de grandes guerres: ce n'est pas à toi à élever un temple à Mon Nom, car tu as fait couler beaucoup de sang sur la terre devant moi.

But Yahweh told [a prophet to tell] me, ‘You have killed many men [MTY] in the battles that you have fought. I have seen the blood of all the people whom you killed, so you will not be the one who will arrange for a temple to be built to honor me [MTY].

9 Voilà qu'un fils t'est né; il sera un homme de paix, et je lui assurerai la paix de la part de tous ses ennemis d'alentour, car Salomon (le pacifique) sera son nom, et je doterai Israël de la paix et de la tranquillité pendant sa vie.

But you will have a son [who will be king of Israel after you die]. He will be a man who is peaceful and quiet, [not a man who kills others]. And I will cause that there will be peace between him and his enemies who are in all the nearby lands. His name will be Solomon, [which sounds like the word for peace]. During the time that he is king, people in Israel will be peaceful and safe.

10 C'est lui qui élèvera un temple à Mon Nom, et il sera pour moi un fils et je serai pour lui un père, et je consoliderai le trône de sa souveraineté sur Israël pour l'éternité.

He is the one who will arrange for a temple to be built to honor me [MTY]. He will be [like] a son to me, and I will cause some of his descendants to rule [MTY] over Israel forever [HYP].’

11 Dès lors, mon fils, que l'Éternel soit avec toi, pour que tu réussisses à élever un temple à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, ainsi qu'il l'a dit de toi.

“So now, my son, I hope/wish that Yahweh will help you, and enable you to be successful in arranging for building the temple of Yahweh, your God, which is what he said that you would do.

12 Seulement que l'Éternel t'accorde sagesse et intelligence et te prépose sur Israël! et tu auras à garder la Loi de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

I also hope/wish that he will enable you to be wise and to understand what you need to know, and enable you to obey his laws while you rule over Israel.

13 Alors tu seras heureux, si tu veilles à pratiquer les décrets et les lois que l'Éternel a prescrites à Moïse pour Israël. Courage! et force! sois sans crainte et sans peur!

If you carefully obey all the laws and regulations/commands that Yahweh gave to Moses to give to us Israeli people, you will be successful. So be steadfast/strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of anything, and do not become discouraged!

14 Et voilà que, par mes pénibles efforts, j'ai préparé en vue du Temple de l'Éternel, en or, cent mille talents, et en argent, un million de talents, et en fer et en airain, une quantité incalculable, car il y en a une masse; et j'ai aussi préparé du bois et des pierres; et tu pourras y ajouter.

“I have tried hard to provide [materials] for [building] the temple of Yahweh. I have provided nearly 4,000 tons of gold, and nearly 40,000 tons of silver. I have also provided a very large amount of iron and bronze; no one has been able to weigh it all. I have also gathered/provided lumber and stone [for the walls of the temple], but you may need to get some more of those things.

15 Et tu as une multitude d'artisans, des tailleurs de pierre et des ouvriers en pierre et en bois, et toute espèce d'hommes experts en tous métiers;

There are many men [in Israel] who have good ability to cut big stones for making stone walls, and carpenters, and men who are very skilled at making various kinds of things.

16 l'or, l'argent, l'airain et le fer ne sauraient être comptés. Debout donc et exécute, et que l'Éternel soit avec toi!

There are many men who know how to make things from gold and silver and bronze and iron. So now [I say to you], begin the work [of building the temple], and I hope/wish that Yahweh will help/be with you.”

17 Et David enjoignit à tous les princes d'Israël d'aider Salomon, son fils:

Then David commanded that all the Israeli leaders must assist Solomon. He said to them,

18 « Est-ce que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, n'est pas avec vous, et ne vous a-t-Il pas mis en paix avec vos alentours? Car Il a mis en ma main les habitants du pays, et le pays est soumis devant l'Éternel et devant son peuple.

“Yahweh our God is certainly with/helping you [RHQ]. He has allowed you to have peace with all the nearby nations [RHQ]. He has enabled my [army] to conquer [IDM] them, so now Yahweh and my people control them.

19 Maintenant appliquez vos cœurs et vos âmes à chercher l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et mettez-vous à l'œuvre, et élevez le Sanctuaire de l'Éternel, Dieu, pour installer l'Arche d'alliance de l'Éternel et les saints ustensiles de Dieu dans le Temple élevé au Nom de l'Éternel. »

Now you must obey Yahweh completely. Help Solomon to arrange for building the temple for Yahweh God, in order that you can bring the Sacred Chest that contains the Ten Commandments and the other sacred items that belong to God into the temple that you will build to honor Yahweh.”
