1 Chroniques 10
1 Et les Philistins étaient aux prises avec Israël et les hommes d'Israël fuiront devant les Philistins et il tomba des blessés sur la montagne de Gilboa.
Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2 Et les Philistins se mirent à la poursuite de Saül et de ses fils, et les Philistins abattirent Jonathan et Abinadab et Malchisua, fils de Saül.
And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
3 Et le faix de la bataille tombait sur Saül, qui fut atteint par les tireurs d'arc; et Saül trembla devant les tireurs.
And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
4 Alors Saül dit à son écuyer: Tire ton épée et m'en perce, afin que ces incirconcis ne viennent pas faire de moi leur jouet.
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 Et son écuyer ne voulut pas, car il avait une crainte extrême. Alors Saül prit l'épée et se rua dessus. Et l'écuyer voyant Saül mort se rua aussi sur l'épée et mourut.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
6 Ainsi périt Saül et ses trois fils, et toute sa maison périt à la fois.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
7 Et quand tous les Israélites de la plaine virent la fuite et la mort de Saül et de ses fils, ils abandonnèrent leurs villes et s'enfuirent, et les Philistins arrivèrent et s'y établirent.
And when all the men of Israel that [were] in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 Et le lendemain les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, et ils trouvèrent Saül et ses fils tombés sur la montagne de Gilboa.
And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9 Et ils le dépouillèrent et emportèrent sa tête et ses armes, qu'ils firent circuler dans le pays des Philistins pour donner la nouvelle à leurs idoles et au peuple.
And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
10 Et ils placèrent ses armes dans le temple de leur dieu, et fichèrent son crâne dans le temple de Dagon.
And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11 Et tout Jabès de Galaad fut instruit de tout ce que les Philistins avaient fait à Saül;
And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 alors tous les braves se mirent sur pied et allèrent enlever le corps de Saül et les corps de ses fils, qu'ils amenèrent à Jabès, et ils inhumèrent leurs os sous le térébinthe de Jabès et jeûnèrent sept jours.
They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13 Ainsi périt Saül ensuite du forfait qu'il avait commis contre l'Éternel à l'occasion de la parole de l'Éternel qu'il n'avait pas observée, et aussi en consultant, cherchant les évocateurs des morts.
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, [even] against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit, to enquire [of it; ]
14 Mais, l'Éternel, il ne Le consulta point; c'est pourquoi Il le fit mourir et transféra la royauté à David, fils d'Isaï.
And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
