Luc 5
1 Un jour que Jésus, pressé par la foule, qui voulait entendre la parole de Dieu, était acculé vers le lac de Génésareth,
One day, as Jesus was standing beside the Sea of Galilee, people crowded around him to hear the word of God.
2 il vit deux barques qui stationnaient près du rivage. Les pêcheurs, après en être descendus, avaient nettoyé leurs filets.
Jesus noticed two boats lying on the shore, left there by fishermen who were washing their nets.
3 Il entra dans l'une de ces barques, qui appartenait à Simon, et le pria de s'éloigner un peu de terre; puis, s'étant assis, il enseigna la foule de dessus la barque.
Jesus got into a boat, the one that belonged to Simon, and asked him to push it out into the water, just offshore. Then Jesus sat down in the boat and taught the people from there.
4 Quand il eut cessé de parler, il dit à Simon: «Avancez en pleine eau, et jetez votre filet pour pêcher.»
After he'd finished speaking, he told Simon, “Go out into deeper water, and let down your nets for a catch.”
5 Simon lui répondit: «Maître, nous avons travaillé toute la nuit sans rien prendre; mais, sur ta parole, nous jetterons le filet.
“Lord, we worked hard all night, and didn't catch anything. But if you say so, I'll let down the nets,” Simon replied.
6 Et l'ayant jeté, ils prirent une si grande quantité de poissons, que leur filet se rompait.
Having done this, a large shoal of fish filled the nets full to breaking point.
7 Ils firent donc signe à leurs compagnons, qui étaient dans l'autre barque, de venir les aider. Ils vinrent, et ils remplirent les deux barques au point qu'elles enfonçaient.
They waved to their partners in the other boat, asking them to come over and help. The others came over and together they filled both of the boats with fish. The boats were so full that they began to sink.
8 A cette vue, Simon-Pierre tomba aux genoux de Jésus, et lui dit: «Éloigne-toi de moi, Seigneur, car je suis un homme pécheur.»
When Simon Peter saw what had happened, he dropped to his knees before Jesus. “Lord, please stay away from me, for I am a sinful man!” he exclaimed.
9 Il était, en effet, stupéfié, aussi bien que tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, de la quantité de poissons qu'ils avaient prise.
For he and everybody with him were completely amazed by the catch of fish that they had landed.
10 Il en était de même de Jacques et de Jean, fils de Zébédée, qui étaient associés de Simon. Alors Jésus dit à Simon: «Ne crains point, désormais tu seras pêcheur d'hommes.»
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners, felt the same way. “Don't be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you'll be fishing for people!”
11 Et eux, ayant ramené leurs barques à terre, quittèrent tout, et le suivirent.
So they dragged the boats onto the shore, left everything, and followed Jesus.
12 Comme il était dans une des villes de la Galilée, un homme couvert de lèpre le vit, et, se prosternant la face contre terre, lui adressa cette prière: «Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre net.»
Once when Jesus was visiting one of the towns, he met a man there who had a very bad case of leprosy. The man fell with his face to the ground and begged Jesus, “Please Lord, if you're willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jésus avançant la main, le toucha, après lui avoir dit: «Je le veux, sois net.» Aussitôt la lèpre le quitta.
Jesus reached out and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy disappeared.
14 Il lui recommanda de n'en parler à personne: «Mais va, lui dit-il, montre-toi au sacrificateur, et présente pour ta guérison l'offrande que Moïse a prescrite pour l'attester au peuple.»
“Say nothing to anyone,” Jesus instructed him. “Go and show yourself to the priest and make the ceremonial offerings as required by the law of Moses as proof that you've been healed.”
15 Sa renommée se répandait de plus en plus; et le peuple venait en foule pour l'entendre et pour se faire guérir de ses maladies.
Yet the news about Jesus spread more and more. Large crowds came to hear Jesus and to be healed from their diseases.
16 Pour lui, il se retirait dans les déserts, et priait.
But Jesus often used to retreat to quiet places and pray.
17 Un jour qu'il enseignait en présence de pharisiens et de docteurs de la Loi, venus de tous les villages de la Galilée, ainsi que de la Judée et de Jérusalem, et que la puissance du Seigneur se déployait dans la guérison des malades,
One day when Jesus was teaching, the Pharisees and religious teachers who had come from all over Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem were sitting there. The power of the Lord to heal was with him so he could heal.
18 arrivèrent des gens, qui portaient sur un lit un homme paralysé; ils cherchaient à le faire entrer, et à le placer sous les yeux de Jésus.
Some men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They tried to take him in and lay him in front of Jesus.
19 Ne sachant par où pénétrer, à cause de la foule, ils montèrent sur le toit, et, en ayant enlevé les briques, ils descendirent le malade, avec son lit, au milieu de l'assemblée, devant Jésus.
But they couldn't find any way through the crowd, so they went up on the roof and made a hole in the roof tiles. Then they lowered the man down on the mat, right into the crowd in front of Jesus.
20 Celui-ci voyant leur foi, dit: «O homme, tes péchés te sont pardonnés.»
When Jesus saw the trust they had in him, he said to the man, “Your sins are forgiven.”
21 Les scribes et les pharisiens commencèrent à dire en eux-mêmes: «Qui est cet homme qui profère des blasphèmes? Qui peut pardonner les péchés, que Dieu seul?»
The religious teachers and the Pharisees began to argue with that. “Who is this who's speaking blasphemies?” they asked. “Who can forgive sins? Only God can do that!”
22 Mais Jésus connaissant leurs pensées, prit la parole, et leur dit: «Quelles pensées avez-vous dans vos coeurs?
Jesus knew what they were arguing about, so he asked them, “Why are you thinking to question this?
23 Lequel est le plus aisé de dire: Tes péchés te sont pardonnés, ou de dire: Lève-toi et marche?
What is easier? To say your sins are forgiven, or to say get up and walk?
24 Or, afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a sur la terre le pouvoir de pardonner les péchés: Je te le commande, dit-il au paralytique, lève-toi, prends ton lit et va-t'en dans ta maison.»
However, I will prove to you that the Son of man has the authority here on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
25 A l'instant, le paralytique se leva en leur présence, prit ce qui lui servait de lit, et s'en alla dans sa maison en glorifiant Dieu.
Immediately the man stood up in front of them. He picked up the mat he'd been lying on, and went home, praising God as he went.
26 Tous les assistants étaient dans la stupéfaction; ils glorifiaient Dieu, et, tout remplis de crainte, ils disaient: «Nous avons vu aujourd'hui des choses étranges.»
Everyone was completely astonished at what had happened, and in great awe they praised God, saying, “What we saw today was amazing!”
27 Après cela, Jésus étant sorti, remarqua un publicain nommé Lévi, qui était assis au bureau des péages, et il lui dit: «Suis-moi.»
Later, as Jesus was leaving the town, he saw a tax collector called Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him.
28 Et lui, quittant tout, se leva et le suivit.
Levi stood up, left everything, and followed Jesus.
29 Lévi lui donna un grand repas dans sa maison, et il y avait une troupe nombreuse de publicains et d'autres gens, qui étaient à table avec eux.
Levi organized a large banquet at his home in Jesus' honor. Many tax collectors and others were in the crowd that sat down to eat with them. But the Pharisees and the religious teachers complained to Jesus' disciples, asking,
30 Les pharisiens et les scribes du lieu s'en plaignaient à ses disciples, disant: «Pourquoi mangez-vous et buvez-vous avec les publicains et les gens de mauvaise vie?»
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
31 Jésus prit la parole, et leur dit: «Ce ne sont pas les bien portants qui ont besoin de médecin, mais ceux qui se portent mal:
“Healthy people don't need a doctor—but sick people do,” Jesus replied.
32 je ne suis pas venu appeler les justes à la repentance, mais les pécheurs.»
“I didn't come to call those who are living right to repentance—I came to call sinners.”
33 Ils lui dirent: «Les disciples de Jean jeûnent fréquemment et font des prières, et ceux des pharisiens également, tandis que les tiens mangent et boivent.»
“Well, John's disciples often fast and pray, and the Pharisees' disciples do so as well. But your disciples don't—they go on eating and drinking,” they told him.
34 Il leur répondit: «Pouvez-vous faire jeûner les amis de l'époux, pendant que l'époux est avec eux?
“Should the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them?” Jesus asked.
35 Le temps de jeûner viendra: quand l'époux leur sera ôté, alors ce sera le temps de jeûner.»
“No—but the time is coming when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then they can fast.”
36 Il ajouta une comparaison: «On ne prend pas une pièce à une étoffe neuve, pour la mettre à un vieux habit; autrement, non-seulement on déchire l'étoffe neuve, mais encore le neuf n'ira pas bien avec le vieux.
Then he gave them an illustration: “You don't tear out a patch from new clothes to mend old clothes. Otherwise you'd ruin new clothes, and the patch from the new wouldn't match the old.
37 On ne met pas non plus du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres; autrement, le vin nouveau fait rompre les outres, et le vin se répand, et les outres sont perdues.
You don't put new wine into old wineskins, because if you did the new wine would burst the wineskins. Then both wine and wineskins would be wasted.
38 Mais il faut mettre le vin nouveau dans des outres neuves.
You put new wine in new wineskins.
39 D'ailleurs, quand on vient de boire du vin vieux, on ne veut pas du nouveau, car on dit: «Le vieux est bon.»
And nobody after drinking old wine wants new wine, for they say, ‘the old tastes good.’”
