Psaumes 10
1 Pourquoi, ô Eternel! te tiens-tu loin, [et] te caches-tu au temps [que nous sommes] dans la détresse?
Why do you keep far away, O Lord? why are you not to be seen in times of trouble?
2 Le méchant par son orgueil poursuit ardemment l'affligé; [mais] ils seront pris par les machinations qu'ils ont préméditées.
The evil-doer in his pride is cruel to the poor; let him be taken by the tricks of his invention.
3 Car le méchant se glorifie du souhait de son âme, il estime heureux l'avare, et il irrite l'Eternel.
For the evil-doer is lifted up because of the purpose of his heart, and he whose mind is fixed on wealth is turned away from the Lord, saying evil against him.
4 Le méchant marchant avec fierté ne fait conscience [de rien]; toutes ses pensées sont, qu'il n'y a point de Dieu.
The evil-doer in his pride says, God will not make a search. All his thoughts are, There is no God.
5 Son train prospère en tout temps; tes jugements sont éloignés de devant lui; il souffle contre tous ses adversaires.
His ways are ever fixed; your decisions are higher than he may see: as for his haters, they are as nothing to him.
6 Il dit en son cœur: je ne serai jamais ébranlé; car je ne puis avoir de mal.
He has said in his heart, I will not be moved: through all generations I will never be in trouble.
7 Sa bouche est pleine de malédictions, de tromperies, et de fraude; il n'y a sous sa langue qu'oppression et qu'outrage.
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and false words: under his tongue are evil purposes and dark thoughts.
8 Il se tient aux embûches dans des villages; il tue l'innocent dans des lieux cachés; ses yeux épient le troupeau des désolés.
He is waiting in the dark places of the towns: in the secret places he puts to death those who have done no wrong: his eyes are secretly turned against the poor.
9 Il se tient aux embûches en un lieu caché, comme un lion dans son fort; il se tient aux embûches pour attraper l'affligé; il attrape l'affligé, l'attirant en son filet.
He keeps himself in a secret place like a lion in his hole, waiting to put his hands on the poor man, and pulling him into his net.
10 Il se tapit, et se baisse, et puis le troupeau des désolés tombe entre ses bras.
The upright are crushed and made low, and the feeble are overcome by his strong ones.
11 Il dit en son cœur: le [Dieu] Fort l'a oublié, il a caché sa face, il ne le verra jamais.
He says in his heart, God has no memory of me: his face is turned away; he will never see it.
12 Eternel, lève-toi, ô [Dieu] Fort! hausse ta main, et n'oublie point les débonnaires.
Up! O Lord; let your hand be lifted: give thought to the poor.
13 Pourquoi le méchant irriterait-il Dieu? Il a dit en son cœur que tu n'en feras aucune recherche.
Why has the evil-doer a low opinion of God, saying in his heart, You will not make search for it?
14 Tu l'as vu; car lorsqu'on afflige ou qu'on maltraite quelqu'un, tu regardes pour le mettre entre tes mains, le troupeau des désolés se réfugie auprès de toi; tu as aidé l'orphelin.
You have seen it; for your eyes are on sorrow and grief, to take it into your hand: the poor man puts his faith in you; you have been the helper of the child who has no father.
15 Casse le bras du méchant, et recherche la méchanceté de l'injuste, jusqu'à ce que tu n'en trouves plus rien.
Let the arm of the sinner and the evil-doer be broken; go on searching for his sin till there is no more.
16 L'Eternel est Roi à toujours, et à perpétuité; les nations ont été exterminées de dessus sa terre.
The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations are gone from his land.
17 Eternel, tu exauces le souhait des débonnaires, affermis leur cœur, [et] que ton oreille les écoute attentivement;
Lord, you have given ear to the prayer of the poor: you will make strong their hearts, you will give them a hearing:
18 Pour faire droit à l'orphelin et à celui qui est foulé, afin que l'homme [mortel], qui est de terre, ne continue plus à donner de l'effroi.
To give decision for the child without a father and for the broken-hearted, so that the man of the earth may no longer be feared.
