1 Or l'Eternel parla à Moïse au désert de Sinaï, dans le Tabernacle d'assignation, le premier jour du second mois de la seconde année, après qu'ils furent sortis du pays d'Egypte, en disant:

Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out] in the wilderness of Sinai [Thorn], in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], saying,

2 Faites le dénombrement de toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, selon leurs familles, selon les maisons de leurs pères, en les comptant nom par nom, [savoir] tous les mâles, chacun par tête;

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails], by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one;

3 Depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux d'Israël qui peuvent aller à la guerre, vous les compterez suivant leurs troupes, toi et Aaron.

from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel [God prevails]. You and Aaron [Light-bringer] shall count them by their divisions.

4 Et il y aura avec vous un homme de chaque Tribu, [savoir] celui qui [est] le chef de la maison de ses pères.

With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers’ house.

5 Et ce sont ici les noms de ces hommes qui vous assisteront. Pour la Tribu de Ruben, Elitsur fils de Sédéur.

These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben [See, a son!]: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

6 Pour celle de Siméon, Sélumiel, fils de Tsurisaddaï.

Of Simeon [Hearing]: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai [My rock almighty].

7 Pour celle de Juda, Nahasson, fils de Hamminadab.

Of Judah [Praised]: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

8 Pour celle d'Issacar, Nathanaël, fils de Tsuhar.

Of Issachar [Hire, Reward]: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

9 Pour celle de Zabulon, Eliab, fils de Hélon.

Of Zebulun [Living together]: Eliab the son of Helon.

10 des enfants de Joseph, pour la Tribu d'Ephraïm, Elisamah, fils de Hammiud; pour celle de Manassé, Gamaliel fils de Pédatsur.

Of the children of Joseph [May he add]: Of Ephraim [Fruit]: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh [Causing to forget]: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

11 Pour la Tribu de Benjamin, Abidan, fils de Guidhoni.

Of Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south]: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

12 Pour celle de Dan, Ahihézer, fils de Hammisaddaï.

Of Dan [He judged]: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

13 Pour celle d'Aser, Paghiel, fils de Hocran.

Of Asher [Happy]: Pagiel the son of Ochran.

14 Pour celle de Gad, Eliasaph, fils de Déhuël.

Of Gad [Good fortune]: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

15 Pour celle de Nephthali, Ahirah, fils de Hénan.

Of Naphtali [My wrestling]: Ahira the son of Enan.”

16 C'étaient là ceux qu'on appelait pour tenir l'assemblée; ils étaient les principaux des Tribus de leurs pères, chefs des milliers d'Israël.

These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel [God prevails].

17 Alors Moïse et Aaron prirent ces hommes-là qui avaient été nommés par leurs noms;

Moses [Drawn out] and Aaron [Light-bringer] took these men who are mentioned by name.

18 Et ils convoquèrent toute l'assemblée, le premier jour du second mois, et on enregistra chacun selon leurs familles, [et] selon la maison de leurs pères, les enregistrant, nom par nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, chacun par tête;

They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

19 Comme l'Eternel l'avait commandé à Moïse, il les dénombra au désert de Sinaï.

As Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out], so he counted them in the wilderness of Sinai [Thorn].

20 Les enfants donc de Ruben, premier-né d'Israël, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dont on fit le dénombrement par leur nom, [et] par tête, [savoir] tous les mâles de l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

The children of Reuben [See, a son!], Israel [God prevails]’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

21 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Ruben, qui furent dénombrés, furent quarante-six mille cinq cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Reuben [See, a son!], were forty-six thousand five hundred.

22 Des enfants de Siméon, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, ceux qui furent dénombrés par leur nom et par tête, [savoir] tous les mâles de l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Simeon [Hearing], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were counted of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

23 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Siméon, qui furent dénombrés, furent cinquante-neuf mille trois cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Simeon [Hearing], were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

24 Des enfants de Gad, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Gad [Good fortune], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

25 Ceux, [ dis-je], de la Tribu de Gad, qui furent dénombrés, furent quarante-cinq mille six cent cinquante.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Gad [Good fortune], were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

26 Des enfants de Juda, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Judah [Praised], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

27 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Juda, qui furent dénombrés, furent soixante et quatorze mille six cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Judah [Praised], were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

28 Des enfants d'Issacar, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Issachar [Hire, Reward], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

29 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu d'Issacar, qui furent dénombrés, furent cinquante-quatre mille quatre cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Issachar [Hire, Reward], were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

30 Des enfants de Zabulon, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Zebulun [Living together], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

31 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Zabulon, qui furent dénombrés, furent cinquante-sept mille quatre cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Zebulun [Living together], were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

32 Quant aux enfants de Joseph; les enfants d'Ephraïm, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

34 Des enfants de Manassé, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Manasseh [Causing to forget], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

35 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Manassé, qui furent dénombrés, furent trente-deux mille deux cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Manasseh [Causing to forget], were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

36 Des enfants de Benjamin, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

37 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Benjamin, qui furent dénombrés, furent trente-cinq mille quatre cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south], were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

38 Des enfants de Dan, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Dan [He judged], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

39 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Dan, qui furent dénombrés, furent soixante-deux mille sept cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Dan [He judged], were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

40 Des enfants d'Aser, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Asher [Happy], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

41 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu d'Aser, qui furent dénombrés, furent quarante et un mille cinq cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Asher [Happy], were forty-one thousand five hundred.

42 [Des] enfants de Nephthali, selon leurs générations, leurs familles, et les maisons de leurs pères, dénombrés chacun par leur nom, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

Of the children of Naphtali [My wrestling], their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

43 Ceux, [dis-je], de la Tribu de Nephthali, qui furent dénombrés, furent cinquante-trois mille quatre cents.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali [My wrestling], were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

44 Ce sont là ceux dont Moïse et Aaron firent le dénombrement, les douze principaux [d'entre les enfants] d'Israël y étant, un pour chaque maison de leurs pères.

These are those who were counted, whom Moses [Drawn out] and Aaron [Light-bringer] counted, and the princes of Israel [God prevails], being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

45 Ainsi tous ceux des enfants d'Israël, dont on fit le dénombrement, selon les maisons de leurs pères, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, tous ceux d'entre les Israélites, qui pouvaient aller à la guerre;

So all those who were counted of the children of Israel [God prevails] by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel [God prevails];

46 Tous ceux, [dis-je], dont on fit le dénombrement, furent six cent trois mille cinq cent cinquante.

even all those who were counted were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

47 Mais les Lévites ne furent point dénombrés avec eux, selon la Tribu de leurs pères.

But the Levites [Descendants of United with] after the tribe of their fathers was not counted among them.

48 Car l'Eternel avait parlé à Moïse, en disant:

For Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,

49 Tu ne feras aucun dénombrement de la Tribu de Lévi, et tu n'en lèveras point la somme avec les [autres] enfants d'Israël.

“Only the tribe of Levi [United with] you shall not count, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel [God prevails];

50 Mais tu donneras aux Lévites la charge du pavillon du Témoignage, et de tous ses ustensiles, et de tout ce qui lui appartient; ils porteront le pavillon, et tous ses ustensiles; ils y serviront, et camperont autour du pavillon.

but appoint the Levites [Descendants of United with] over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

51 Et quand le pavillon partira, les Lévites le désassembleront, et quand le pavillon campera, ils le dresseront. Que si quelque étranger en approche, on le fera mourir.

When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

52 Or les enfants d'Israël camperont chacun en son quartier, et chacun sous son enseigne, selon leurs troupes.

The children of Israel [God prevails] shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

53 Mais les Lévites camperont autour du pavillon du Témoignage, afin qu'il n'y ait point d'indignation sur l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, et ils prendront en leur charge le pavillon du Témoignage.

But the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails]: and the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

54 Et les enfants d'Israël firent selon toutes les choses que l'Eternel avait commandées à Moïse; ils le firent ainsi.

Thus the children of Israel [God prevails] did. According to all that Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out], so they did.
