Nahum 2

1 Le destructeur est monté contre toi; garde la forteresse, prends garde aux avenues, fortifie tes reins, ramasse toutes tes forces.

It is all over with him, he has been removed, [one] who has been delivered from affliction has come up panting into your presence, watch the way, strengthen [your] loins, be very valiant in [your] strength.

2 Car l'Eternel a abaissé la fierté de Jacob comme la fierté d'Israël; parce que les videurs les ont vidés, et qu'ils ont ravagé leurs sarments.

For the Lord has turned aside the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: for they have utterly rejected them, and have destroyed their branches.

3 Le bouclier de ses hommes forts est rendu rouge; ses hommes vaillants sont teints de vermillon; les chariots [marcheront] avec un feu de torches, au jour qu'il aura rangé [ses batailles], et que les sapins branleront.

[They have destroyed] the arms of their power from among men, their mighty men sporting with fire: the reins of their chariots [shall be destroyed] in the day of his preparation, and the horsemen shall be thrown into confusion

4 Les chariots couront avec rapidité dans les rues, et s'entre-heurteront dans les places, ils seront, à les voir comme des flambeaux, et courront comme des éclairs.

in the ways, and the chariots shall clash together, and shall be entangled in each other in the broad ways: their appearance is as lamps of fire, and as gleaming lightnings.

5 Il se souviendra de ses hommes vaillants, mais ils seront renversés en chemin; ils se hâteront [de venir] à ses murailles, et la contre-défense sera toute prête.

And their mighty men shall bethink themselves and flee by day; and they shall be weak as they go; and they shall hasten to her walls, and shall prepare their defences.

6 Les portes des fleuves sont ouvertes, et le palais s'est fondu.

The gates of the cities have been opened, and the palaces have fallen into ruin,

7 On y a fait tenir [chacun] debout, [la Reine] a été emmenée prisonnière, on l'a fait monter, et ses servantes l'ont accompagnée, comme avec une voix de colombe, frappant leurs poitrines comme un tambour.

and the foundation has been exposed; and she has gone up, and her maidservants were led [away] as doves moaning in their hearts.

8 Or Ninive, depuis qu'elle a été bâtie, a été comme un vivier d'eaux; mais ils s'enfuient; arrêtez-vous, arrêtez-vous; mais il n'y a personne qui tourne visage.

And [as for] Nineve, her waters [shall be] as a pool of water: and they fled, and staid not, and there was none to look back.

9 Pillez l'argent, pillez l'or; il y a de bornes à son fane, qui l'emporte sur tous les vaisseaux précieux.

They plundered the silver, they plundered the gold, and there was no end of their adorning; they were loaded [with it] upon all their pleasant vessels.

10 [Qu'elle soit] toute vidée et revidée, même tout épuisée; que leur cœur se fonde, que leurs genoux se heurtent l'un contre l'autre; que le tourment soit dans les reins de tous, et que leurs visages deviennent noirs comme un pot [qui a été mis sur le feu.]

[There is] thrusting forth, and shaking, and tumult, and heart-breaking, and loosing of knees, and pangs on all loins; and the faces of all [are] as the blackening of a pot.

11 Où [est] le repaire des lions, et le viandis des lionceaux, dans lequel se retiraient les lions, et où [se tenaient] les vieux lions, et les faons des lions, sans qu'aucun les effarouchât?

Where is the dwelling-place of the lions, and the pasture that belonged to the whelps? where did the lion go, that the lion's whelp should enter in there, and there was none to scare [him] away?

12 Les lions ravissaient tout ce qu'il fallait pour leurs faons, et étranglaient [les bêtes] pour leurs vielles lionnes, et ils remplissaient leurs tanières de proie, et leurs repaires de rapine.

The lion seized enough prey for his whelps, and strangled for his [young] lions, and filled his lair with prey, and his dwelling-place with spoil.

13 Voici, j'en veux à toi, dit l'Eternel des armées, et je brûlerai tes chariots, [et ils s'en iront] en fumée, et l'épée consumera tes lionceaux; je retrancherai de la terre ta proie, et la voix de tes ambassadeurs ne sera plus entendue.

Behold, I am against you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will burn up your multitude in the smoke, and the sword shall devour your lions; and I will utterly destroy your prey from off the land, and your deeds shall no more at all be heard of.
