Josué 3
1 Or Josué se leva de bon matin; ils partirent de Sittim, ils vinrent jusqu'au Jourdain, lui et tous les enfants d'Israël, et ils logèrent là cette nuit, avant qu'ils passassent.
Then Joshua got up early in the morning, and, moving on from Shittim, he and all the children of Israel came to Jordan and were there for the night before going over.
2 Et au bout de trois jours les officiers passèrent par le camp;
And at the end of three days, the men in authority over the people went through the tents,
3 Et ils commandèrent au peuple en disant: Sitôt que vous verrez l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel votre Dieu, et les Sacrificateurs de la race de Lévi qui la porteront, vous partirez de votre quartier, et vous marcherez après elle.
Giving the people their orders, and saying, When you see the ark of the agreement of the Lord your God lifted up by the priests, the Levites, then get up from your places and go after it;
4 Et afin que vous n'approchiez point d'elle, il y aura entre vous et elle une distance de la mesure d'environ deux mille coudées, afin que vous connaissiez le chemin par lequel vous devez marcher; car vous n'avez point ci-devant passé par ce chemin.
But let there be a space between you and it of about two thousand cubits: come no nearer to it, so that you may see the way you have to go, for you have not been over this way before.
5 Josué dit aussi au peuple: Sanctifiez-vous; car l'Eternel fera demain, au milieu de vous des choses merveilleuses.
And Joshua said to the people, Make yourselves holy, for tomorrow the Lord will do works of wonder among you.
6 Josué parla aussi aux Sacrificateurs, en disant: Chargez [sur vous] l'Arche de l'alliance, et passez devant le peuple. Ainsi ils chargèrent [sur eux] l'Arche de l'alliance, et marchèrent devant le peuple.
Then Joshua said to the priests, Take up the ark of the agreement and go over in front of the people. So they took up the ark of the agreement and went in front of the people.
7 Or l'Eternel avait dit à Josué: Aujourd'hui je commencerai de t'élever à la vue de tout Israël; afin qu'ils connaissent que comme j'ai été avec Moïse, je serai [aussi] avec toi.
And the Lord said to Joshua, From now on I will give you glory in the eyes of all Israel, so that they may see that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
8 Tu commanderas donc aux Sacrificateurs qui portent l'Arche de l'alliance, en [leur] disant: Sitôt que vous arriverez au bord de l'eau du Jourdain, vous vous arrêterez au Jourdain.
And you are to give orders to the priests who take up the ark of the agreement, and say, When you come to the edge of the waters of Jordan, go no further.
9 Et Josué dit aux enfants d'Israël: Approchez-vous d'ici, et écoutez les paroles de l'Eternel votre Dieu.
And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come to me here: and give ear to the words of the Lord your God.
10 Puis Josué dit: Vous reconnaîtrez à ceci que le [Dieu] Fort, [et] vivant, est au milieu de vous, et qu'il chassera certainement de devant vous les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Héviens, les Phérésiens, les Guirgasiens, les Amorrhéens, et les Jébusiens.
And Joshua said, By this you will see that the living God is among you, and that he will certainly send out from before you the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Hivite and the Perizzite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Jebusite.
11 Voici, l'Arche de l'alliance du Dominateur de toute la terre s'en va passer devant vous au travers du Jourdain.
See, the ark of the agreement of the Lord of all the earth is going over before you into Jordan.
12 Maintenant donc choisissez douze hommes des Tribus d'Israël, un homme de chaque Tribu.
So take twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, a man from every tribe.
13 Et il arrivera qu'aussitôt que les plantes des pieds des Sacrificateurs qui portent l'Arche de l'Eternel, le Dominateur de toute la terre, seront posées dans les eaux du Jourdain, les eaux du Jourdain seront coupées, les eaux, [dis-je], qui descendent d'en haut, et elles s'arrêteront en un monceau.
And when the feet of the priests who take up the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, come to rest in the waters of Jordan, the waters of Jordan will be cut off, all the waters flowing down from higher up, and will come together in a mass.
14 Et il arriva que le peuple étant parti de ses tentes pour passer le Jourdain, les Sacrificateurs qui portaient l'Arche de l'alliance, étaient devant le peuple.
So when the people went out from their tents to go over Jordan, the priests who took up the ark of the agreement were in front of the people;
15 Et sitôt que ceux qui portaient l'Arche furent arrivés au Jourdain, et que les pieds des Sacrificateurs qui portaient l'Arche furent mouillés au bord de l'eau, (or le Jourdain regorge par dessus tous ses bords durant tout le temps de la moisson.)
And when those who took up the ark came to Jordan, and the feet of the priests who took up the ark were touching the edge of the water (for the waters of Jordan are overflowing all through the time of the grain-cutting),
16 Les eaux qui descendaient d'en-haut, s'arrêtèrent, et s'élevèrent en un monceau fort loin, depuis la ville d'Adam, qui [est] à côté de Tsartan; et celles [d'embas], qui descendaient vers la mer de la campagne, qui est la mer salée, défaillirent et s'écoulèrent, et le peuple passa vis-à-vis de Jérico.
Then the waters flowing down from higher up were stopped and came together in a mass a long way back at Adam, a town near Zarethan; and the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were cut off: and the people went across opposite Jericho.
17 Mais les Sacrificateurs qui portaient l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel, s'arrêtèrent [de pied] ferme sur le sec au milieu du Jourdain, pendant que tout Israël passa à sec, jusqu'à ce que tout le peuple eût achevé de passer le Jourdain.
And the priests who took up the ark of the agreement of the Lord kept their places, with their feet on dry land in the middle of Jordan, while all Israel went over on dry land, till all the nation had gone over Jordan.
