Jérémie 20

1 Alors Pashur, fils d'Immer Sacrificateur, qui était prévôt [et] conducteur dans la maison de l'Eternel, entendit Jérémie qui prophétisait ces choses.

When Pashur, the sonne of Immer, the Priest, which was appointed gouernour in the house of the Lord, heard that Ieremiah prophecied these things,

2 Et Pashur frappa le Prophète Jérémie, et le mit dans la prison qui est à la haute porte de Benjamin, en la maison de l'Eternel.

Then Pashur smote Ieremiah the Prophet, and put him in the stockes that were in the hie gate of Beniamin which was by the House of the Lord.

3 Et il arriva dès le lendemain, que Pashur tira Jérémie hors de la prison, et Jérémie lui dit: l'Eternel n'a pas appelé ton Nom Pashur, mais Magor-missabib.

And on the morning, Pashur brought Ieremiah out of the stockes. Then said Ieremiah vnto him, The Lord hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.

4 Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici, je vais te livrer à la frayeur, toi, et tous tes amis, qui tomberont par l'épée de leurs ennemis, et tes yeux le verront; je livrerai tous ceux de Juda entre les mains du Roi de Babylone, qui les transportera à Babylone, et les frappera avec l'épée.

For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will make thee to be a terrour to thy self, and to al thy friends, and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall beholde it, and I will giue all Iudah into the hande of the King of Babel, and he shall cary them captiue into Babel, and shall slay them with the sworde.

5 Et je livrerai toutes les richesses de cette ville, et tout son travail, et tout ce qu'elle a de précieux, je livrerai, dis-je, tous les trésors des Rois de Juda, entre les mains de leurs ennemis, qui les pilleront, les enlèveront, et les emporteront à Babylone.

Moreouer, I will deliuer all the substance of this citie, and all the labours thereof, and al the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the Kings of Iudah will I giue into the hande of their enemies, which shall spoyle them, and take them away and cary them to Babel.

6 Et toi, Pashur, et tous les habitants de ta maison, vous irez en captivité, tu iras à Babylone, tu y mourras, et y seras enseveli, toi et tous tes amis, auxquels tu as prophétisé le mensonge.

And thou Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house, shall go into captiuitie, and thou shalt come to Babel, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buryed there, thou and all thy friendes, to whome thou hast prophecied lyes.

7 Ô Eternel! tu m'as sollicité, et j'ai été attiré; tu as été plus fort que moi, et tu as eu le dessus; je suis un objet de moquerie tout le jour, chacun se moque de moi.

O Lord, thou hast deceiued me, and I am deceiued: thou art stronger then I, and hast preuailed: I am in derision daily: euery one mocketh me.

8 Car depuis que je parle je n'ai fait que jeter des cris, que crier violence et pillerie, parce que la parole de l'Eternel m'est tournée en opprobre et en moquerie tout le jour.

For since I spake, I cryed out of wrong, and proclaimed desolation: therefore the word of the Lord was made a reproche vnto me, and in derision daily.

9 C'est pourquoi j'ai dit: je ne ferai plus mention de lui, et je ne parlerai plus en son Nom; mais il y a eu dans mon cœur [comme] un feu ardent, renfermé dans mes os; je suis las de le porter, et je n'en puis plus.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speake any more in his Name. But his worde was in mine heart as a burning fire shut vp in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

10 Car j'ai ouï les insultes de plusieurs, la frayeur [m'a saisi] de tous côtés. Rapportez, [disent-ils], et nous le rapporterons. Tous ceux qui ont paix avec moi épient si je bronche, [et disent]: peut-être qu'il sera abusé; alors nous aurons le dessus, et nous nous vengerons de lui.

For I had heard the railing of many, and feare on euery side. Declare, said they, and wee wil declare it: all my familiars watched for mine halting, saying, It may be that he is deceiued: so we shall preuaile against him, and we shall execute our vengeance vpon him.

11 Mais l'Eternel est avec moi comme un homme fort et terrible; c'est pourquoi ceux qui me persécutent seront renversés, ils n'auront point le dessus, ils seront honteux; car ils n'ont pas été prudents; ce sera une confusion éternelle, [qui] ne s'oubliera jamais.

But the Lord is with me like a mightie gyant: therefore my persecuters shall be ouerthrowen, and shall not preuaile, and shalbe greatly confounded: for they haue done vnwisely, and their euerlasting shame shall neuer be forgotten.

12 C'est pourquoi, Eternel des armées, qui sondes les justes, qui vois les reins et le cœur, fais que je voie la vengeance que tu en feras; car je t'ai découvert ma cause.

But, O Lord of hostes, that tryest the righteous, and seest the reines and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cause.

13 Chantez à l'Eternel, louez l'Eternel; car il a délivré l'âme des pauvres de la main des méchants.

Sing vnto the Lord, praise ye the Lord: for he hath deliuered the soule of the poore from the hande of the wicked.

14 Maudit soit le jour auquel je naquis; que le jour auquel ma mère m'enfanta ne soit point béni.

Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: and let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be blessed.

15 Maudit soit l'homme qui apporta de bonnes nouvelles à mon père, en lui disant: un enfant mâle t'est né; et qui le réjouit si bien.

Cursed be the man, that shewed my father, saying, A man child is borne vnto thee, and comforted him.

16 Que cet homme-là soit comme les villes que l'Eternel a renversées sans s'en repentir, qu'il entende le cri au matin, et le retentissement bruyant au temps du Midi.

And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hath ouerturned and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the showting at noone tide,

17 Que ne m'a-t-on fait mourir dans le sein de ma mère? pourquoi ma mère ne m'a-t-elle été mon sépulcre, et pourquoi son sein n'a-t-il conçu [sans] jamais enfanter.

Because he hath not slaine me, euen from the wombe, or that my mother might haue bene my graue, or her wobe a perpetual conception.

18 Pourquoi suis-je né pour ne voir que peine et qu'ennui, et afin que mes jours fussent consumés avec honte?

How is it, that I came forth of the wombe, to see labour and sorowe, that my dayes shoulde be consumed with shame?
