2 Rois 13
1 La vingt et troisième année de Joas fils d'Achazia Roi de Juda, Joachaz fils de Jéhu commença à régner sur Israël à Samarie, [et il régna] dix-sept ans.
Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, became king of Israel in the twenty-third year of the reign of Joash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah. He reigned in Samaria for seventeen years.
2 Et il fit ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel; car il suivit les péchés de Jéroboam fils de Nébat, par lesquels il avait fait pécher Israël, [et] il ne se détourna point d'aucun d'eux.
He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, and followed the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat, had made Israel commit; he did not end them.
3 Et la colère de l'Eternel s'embrasa contre Israël, qui les livra entre les mains de Hazaël Roi de Syrie, et entre les mains de Ben-hadad fils de Hazaël durant tout ce temps-là.
So the Lord was angry with Israel, and he repeatedly allowed them to be defeated by Hazael, king of Aram, and his son Ben-hadad.
4 Mais Joachaz supplia l'Eternel; et l'Eternel l'exauça; parce qu'il vit l'oppression d'Israël, car le Roi de Syrie les opprimait.
Jehoahaz asked the Lord for help, and the Lord responded to his request because he saw how badly the king of Aram was treating Israel.
5 L'Eternel donc donna un libérateur à Israël, et ils sortirent de dessous la puissance des Syriens; ainsi les enfants d'Israël habitèrent dans leurs tentes comme auparavant.
The Lord gave Israel someone who would save them so they no longer were under Aramean rule. Then the Israelites were able to go back to living in safety as before.
6 Toutefois ils ne se détournèrent point des péchés de la maison de Jéroboam, par lesquels il avait fait pécher Israël; mais ils y marchèrent, et même le bocage demeura debout à Samarie.
Even so they did not end the sins that the house of Jeroboam had made Israel commit—they continued to follow them. The Asherah idol still stood in Samaria.
7 Quoique [Dieu] n'eût laissé d'entre le peuple à Joachaz que cinquante hommes de cheval, dix chariots, et dix mille hommes de pied, et que le Roi de Syrie les eût détruits, et les eût rendus [menus] comme la poudre qu'on foule [dans l'aire].
All that was left of Jehoahaz's army were fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest, turning them into dust like that when grain is threshed.
8 Le reste des faits de Joachaz, tout ce, dis-je, qu'il a fait, et ses exploits ne sont-ils pas écrits au Livre des Chroniques des Rois d'Israël?
The rest of what happened in Jehoahaz's reign, all he did, and his great achievements are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
9 Ainsi Joachaz s'endormit avec ses pères, et on l'ensevelit à Samarie; et Joas son fils régna en sa place.
Jehoahaz died and was buried in Samaria. His son Jehoash succeeded him as king.
10 La trente-septième année de Joas Roi de Juda, Joas fils de Joachaz commença à régner sur Israël à Samarie, [et il régna] seize ans.
Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel in Samaria in the thirty-seventh year of the reign of King Joash of Judah, and he reigned for sixteen years.
11 Et il fit ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel; il ne se détourna point d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam fils de Nébat, par lesquels il avait fait pécher Israël, il y marcha.
He did what was evil in the Lord's sight and did not end all the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had made Israel commit—he continued to follow them.
12 Le reste des faits de Joas, tout ce, dis-je, qu'il a fait, et la valeur avec laquelle il combattit contre Amatsia Roi de Juda, tout cela n'est-il pas écrit au Livre des Chroniques des Rois d'Israël?
The rest of what happened in Jehoash's reign, all he did, and his great achievements such as his war against Amaziah, king of Judah, are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
13 Et Joas s'endormit avec ses pères, et Jéroboam s'assit sur son trône; et Joas fut enseveli dans Samarie avec les Rois d'Israël.
Jehoash died, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Or Elisée était malade d'une maladie dont il mourut; et Joas le Roi d'Israël était descendu, et avait pleuré sur son visage, en disant: Mon père! mon père! chariot d'Israël, et sa cavalerie!
Elisha had become ill with a disease that would eventually kill him. Jehoash, king of Israel, went to visit him, and wept over him, saying, “My father, my father, the chariots and the horsemen of Israel!”
15 Et Elisée lui dit: Prends un arc et des flèches; Il prit donc en sa main un arc et des flèches.
Elisha told him, “Find a bow and some arrows.” So Jehoash found a bow and some arrows.
16 Puis il dit au Roi d'Israël: Mets ta main sur l'arc; et quand il y eut mis sa main, Elisée mit ses mains sur celles du Roi;
Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Pick up the bow.” So the king picked up the bow. Elisha placed his hands on the king's hands.
17 Et lui dit: Ouvre la fenêtre qui regarde vers l'Orient; et quand il l'eut ouverte, Elisée lui dit: Tire. Après qu'il eut tiré, il lui dit: C'est la flèche de la délivrance de par l'Eternel, la flèche, dis-je, de la délivrance contre les Syriens; tu frapperas donc les Syriens en Aphek, jusqu'à les consumer.
“Open the east window,” he told him. So the king opened it and Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he fired an arrow. Then Elisha explained, “This is the Lord's victory arrow representing the arrow of victory over the Arameans. You will attack the Arameans in Aphek and finish them off.”
18 Il lui dit encore: Prends des flèches; et quand il les eut prises, il dit au Roi d'Israël: Frappe contre terre; et le Roi frappa trois fois, puis il s'arrêta.
Then Elisha said, “Pick up the arrows!” So he picked them up. Elisha told the king of Israel, “Hit the ground with them!” He hit the ground three times, and then stopped.
19 Et l'homme de Dieu se mit en fort grande colère contre lui, et lui dit: Il fallait frapper cinq ou six fois; et tu eusses frappé les Syriens jusqu'à les consumer; mais maintenant tu ne les frapperas que trois fois.
The man of God got angry with him, telling him, “You should have hit the ground five or six times. Then you would have attacked the Arameans until you had completely destroyed them. But now you will only attack the Arameans three times.”
20 Et Elisée mourut, et on l'ensevelit. Or l'année suivante quelques troupes de Moabites entrèrent dans le pays.
Elisha died and was buried. Raiders from the country of Moab used to invade Israel every spring.
21 Et il arriva que comme on ensevelissait un homme, voici on vit venir une troupe de soldats, et on jeta cet homme-là dans le sépulcre d'Elisée; et cet homme étant roulé là dedans, et ayant touché les os d'Elisée, revint en vie, et se leva sur ses pieds.
On time some Israelites were burying a man when suddenly they saw some raiders coming, so they quickly threw the man into Elisha's tomb. As soon as he touched Elisha's bones, the man came back to life and stood up.
22 Or durant tout le temps de Joachaz, Hazaël Roi de Syrie avait opprimé les Israëlites;
Hazael, king of Aram, caused problems for Israel through all Jehoahaz's reign.
23 Mais l'Eternel eut compassion d'eux, et leur fit miséricorde, et se retourna vers eux pour l'amour de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac, et Jacob, de sorte qu'il ne voulut point les exterminer, et il ne les rejeta point de devant soi, jusqu'à maintenant.
But the Lord graciously helped them and was kind to them. He looked after them because of his agreement with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Even to this day he's been unwilling to destroy them or to throw them out of his presence.
24 Puis Hazaël Roi de Syrie mourut, et Ben-hadad son fils régna en sa place.
When Hazael, king of Aram, died, his son Ben-hadad succeeded him as king.
25 Et Joas fils de Joachaz retira d'entre les mains de Ben-hadad fils d'Hazaël les villes qu'[Hazaël] avait prises en guerre à Joachaz son père; Joas le battit trois fois, et recouvra les villes d'Israël.
Then Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, recovered from Ben-hadad son of Hazael, the towns that Hazael had captured from his father Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-hadad three times, and so recaptured the Israelite towns.
